| description | It's taking ages, and I hope the end result is worth it! I picked the 2 worst Monster Beetle shells I had for repair, A: to test the new paint stipper (Langlow Safer Stripper recommended by fellow TC member Jeffy) I had purchased out, and B: to test my skills!!! The paint stripper is great, totally recommend it to anybody, the filler work on the shells is very time consuming though. I want to have these 2 painted / laquered by Sunday fingers crossed! The more time I spend doing this prep-work though the better the end result will be, so I need to hold my horses and not rush it!

and yeah, it did create a load of dust, it looks like i've been going crazy in a crackhouse, lol...
Yeah man, thanks for the link , thats the cheapest place I've seen for Blitzer shells by far, a lot cheaper than Ebay!
Hats off to you regarding the effort. That must have smelled a lot and probably has created a lot of dust. I know, it's more personal to rebuild or restore something rather than buying a new one. If this one breaks again, you know where to klick now.
Tell me about it, will probably use a full tub of filler on these 2 ....
really great work This is such a challenge and makes it more fun
Here is a link to the store where the paint stripper was purchased if anyone was after any
In reply to Alex-digital I am using automotive plastic non-swell filler (SEM 39492), this is a very fine filler, I also used a coarser Dupont automotive filler first to plug the gap after the plastic weld had been applied! Cheers MadM@t for the adivce I will try this with my next skim! In response to def4x4 I will be using a waterbased light metallic blue automotive paint (custom mixed by myself) for one and a solvent based dark metallic blue/grey (also custom mixed by me) for the other! I do know you can purchase a Blitzer shell fairly cheaply Mr. burP but where's the fun in that & it wouldn't be a true restoration if I just bought a new shell would it now, lol...
Big job,but worth the effort because you know you did it.Very good, keep going
Thanks mate no problem. Don't know if you have or do but before applying it I rub the old paint with wire wool this makes it work much better and faster.
You can get a new blitzer beetle shell for 10,94 EUR. Visit [Click here] for example.
Great repair work on that body, looks great so far. If you are finished with sanding the body, like to see what color you use to paint!
When filling large areas I always put masking tape over the top and smooth it out with my fingers, let it dry then remove the tape, alot less sanding afterwards.... caustic sodas great for stripping, looking good tho, Matt
man, this serious time consuming work.... But very good work too.
Yeah nice going! Just wondering what filler you're using for your repairs? Looking forward to seeing these!
Well it was from your page I stumbled upon this stuff Jeffy & I thought I'd give it a whirl! Thanks for introducing it to me!!! It's great!!!
Hi connor I did recommend this age's ago and although this stripper does take a while its so so much faster than waiting for brake fluid. Nice work by the way
WOW... Nice work... Love to see pics once the projects are done...
I used a different paint stripper that I had in my van with disasterous results (it left pit marks on some parts of the plastic) before I used this 'Safer Stripper' (no pun intended). Brake fluid takes a while to effect doesn't it??? This stuff only takes an hour & then a quick rub down with some wire wool! It would have taken all the paint off if I hadn't fused it into the plastic with my first botched attempt - DOH!
have you tried brake fluid to strip bodies?mine always come out with next to no paint on.
