| description | Off road is my flight, and normally I'd go for pick-up trucks. But I have a soft spot for the late 60's-early 70's Baja races. I only have two buggies, and this is my all time favorite. Many times I've been offered to trade this one, but I don't think I can exchange the pleasure of seeing such a beautiful scale Baja racer in my shelf!
I believe the Super Champ to be the end of an era in radiocontrol modelism. It is the last SRB/metal buggy. The next buggy that Tamiya put out was the Frog, which come out in a lighter all-plastic fashion, and sporting, for the very first time, a differential.
In the pictures you can see my Super Champ with the regular wheel/tire combination as well as with the 1979 Rough Rider ones that I have painted white. Have a look at the side by side comparison!

Ha ha. Hiya Sang! All those details are stock. Well, I now got the proper Tamiya bottle.
Very nice. I like the details (net, oil reservoir, etc..). Great job!!!
My favorite buggy!!
Nice looker there! They are such good buggies, hope you got a battery as you should be taking this one to the track!
Yes a very nice looking super champ.
Great looking SC, one of my faves, too. Love the white RR wheel/tire! I plan to build my own six-cell hump-pack for my next runner, shouldn't be too hard.
Feel the same way, the Super Champ is my favorite. Those RR wheels + tyres look pretty good on your SC, gives is a more 'real' look although I do like the spikes as well. Looks good in red too.
To 3clipZ: I don't have a battery pack to fit this chassis, so I don't have a way to run this one. Funny-sad thing was when I finished the restoring process and was ready to go out and test it, just to find there is no place in the chassis to fit one of these dang modern battery packs. Yes, it is frustrating!
To Volksrod: I believe the spiked tires in the rear were an obvious thing because this particular model is really a competition version to the 1979 SRB baja models. It's got a special speed control, unique suspension system, lighter chassis and tires that have much more grip than both, the Sand Blasters as well as the legendary Padlatrax. This was made to be a racing machine.
To everyone else: THANK YOU ALL for the nice comments! This one is really a beautiful Tamiya model.
Thats a awesome classic Super Champ, looks good in red together with the white wheels.
You are right Brother Mongoose. This is indeed a classic... it's so beautiful with the exposed mechanical parts and vintage body shell... a real CHAMP!
The Rough Rider combo makes it look even more 'scaleish'. The rere Buggy Champs chassieplate has the exact same holes as this classic racer, coincidense? No way josé, the next rere will be this little baby!
yes my fav rc car too and this is a very nice one, I prefer your wheel choice I did the same on mine
Looks cool in red, which I don't think I've seen before. Nice car there!
Very nice alternate color you have there EB. I like the white wheel idea.
The super champ is also my all time favorite model. Yours looks stunning in red. Do you drive it or is it just for the shelf?
Very nice Super Champ. I have one of these in my sights next
Looks so much nicer with RR wheels/tires. God knows why Tamiya went for the Spiked rear tires and Smoothie fronts. Nice work.
Looks awesome with the Sand Blasters!
