I really like the look of these, although I was only 1 year old when this design came out so I missed the original. What a fun build, the Chassis went quick, the body was much more challenging. Took about a week of evenings to do the body, just like building a static Tamiya model except this one can be played with in the dirt and I like that. I used a lathe motor and lowest gearing so it tops out about 5mph but thats fine with me because I don't want to roll it.

Thanks for the comments, I was quite surprised that Tamiya America contacted me about the first photo and now it is featured on the top of XR311 product page at Tamiya USA.

Yes that is quite a compliment to have Tamiya actually use your photo. They obviously know a good modeler when they see one. Now if we can work on them to make an FJ40!!

Thank you very much. The picture also won the random drawing last month in the builders showcase on Tamiyausa So I get a free Lancia 037 re-release. yippy!! I wish they would do a FJ40 cause the Pro-line one has the overall look but is far from accurate, and now even it is hard to find. I might have to get the styrene out and just build one from scratch...mmm

WOW! So true to life, fantastic. Which Tamiya green paint did you use, it really adds to the realism.

Interesting model, beautifuly built and photographed with care. I`ve been trying to find a re-re XR311-kit for fair money for the last couple of weeks and haven`t seen a single one on eBay. Some kind of drought...

Only recently I started checking these vehicles. They're awesome. And your paintjob is so realistic. What a wonderful military model car.

Now, not only is Tamiyausa.com using your pic, Seth, it's like the new official pic being used everywhere. LOL... [Click here]
