This is the third car that Tamiya made in the TA01 series of cars and was the first DTM car of the lineup. What sets this car apart is the beautiful lexan body and stunning black and silver finish. Decals on this car are without doubt amongst the hardest to apply of any Tamiya kit as every body panel is essentially covered by a big sticker. Not for the faint hearted.
This particular car is based on the one driven by Klaus Ludwig in the 1992 DTM championships in Germany. This was the overall winning car of that season. Rare kit to find NIB nowadays. Like the 58113 BMW M3 Schnitzer, Tamiya made two alternative bodysets of the Mercedes 190E, the Berlin 2000 and Diebels Alt, both of which are very very hard to find. The TA01 chassis was a reliable, well mannered and virtually indestructible chassis that made a great parking lot basher. Even in their rally guises they never really had the clearance or the suspension to handle anything too rough. You really had to spend a fair amount of cash to make these competitive, but if you did, you had a very fast and reliable car.
