This was Tamiya's 5th car based on the 4WD TA01 chassis and by far the most collectible of them now. It is definitely one of the most scale looking pieces of lexan that Tamiya have made and everything about the car looks just right. It is modelled after the car that raced in the 1992 DTM Championship in Germany and driven by Joachim Winkelhock. Strange choice of car really, as Joachim only managed an overall eighth on the season and wasnt even the highest ranked BMW. The Mercedes 190E (see Kit 58108) was the big winner in 1992 with them taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall on the season. Tamiya also made two bodysets based on the E30 M3 bodyset that were not available as kits, the Linder and the Autotech versions and these are rarer than hens' teeth, certainly harder to find than the original kit NIB! The TA01 chassis was a reliable, well mannered and virtually indestructible chassis that made a great parking lot basher. Even in their rally guises they never really had the clearance or the suspension to handle anything too rough. You really had to spend a fair amount of cash to make these competitive, but if you did, you had a very fast and reliable car. (Original description by AJ)
