An evolution of the 1994 306 S16, the 306 Maxi was built to compete in the new F2 Kit Car class in 1995. This required cars to be 2 litre, non turbo and 2 wheel drive. The engine is based on the 406 ST Touring Car unit, but without the rev limit mandated by the Touring Car rules it was able to rev to above 10,000rpm creating an impressive soundtrack.

The 306's dominance over all other F2 Kit Cars was unchallenged. In the 1998 Tour de Corse Francois Delecour positioned 2nd in the 2wd Peugeot (by mere seconds) to Colin McRae in his 4wd Subaru Impreza, and over 16 minutes ahead of the next F2 car - Martin Rowe's Renault Mégane. Even more impressive considering the wet conditions.

Tamiya's model is based on the FF02 chassis - a longer and wider M03. The wheelbase is the standard 257mm but the rear body mounts are unique to this chassis and mounting on a TT-01 or similar will require making holes in the rear screen (the positions are marked though).
