The XB (Super) Manta Ray principly derives from the original Manta Ray (#58087). It shares a lot of components with its ancestor. Differences can be found at the basic chassis tub, which is a new part and also used in the XB Hummvee. The tub features a two piece cover that helps keeping out a lot of dirt and moisture. The steering linkage also differs from the original Manta Ray steering, since it is made from solid plastic parts w/o threaded shafts, unlike the Manta Ray ones. The XB Manta Ray is only featuring friction type shocks, but an upgrade to oilers is easily feasable.
In the original setup, the XB type will behave much like its forefather, except the dampening. Nevertheless a good 4x4 entry buggy, with enough room for upgrading options.

The Super Manta Ray, based on the current DF-01 chassis, is the most recent addition to the line of Manta Ray based cars in the Tamiya Lineup. My initial impressions were of a nicely built and interestingly designed model. While not quite the same as the original MR it seems to be mostly the same driveline wise. One feature I do like is the smoke colored covers for the radio gear and MSC. I also really like the 'Speed Disk' wheels from the original Manta Ray that are also included with the Super. The assembly and detail on this model are of good workmanship as one expects from a company like Tamiya. The paint and decal work on the body shell are very nice. The manual while thin, has a full parts breakdown and includes a separate sheet with part numbers.
Where I think this falls short is the radio gear. This one came with an Adspec GP radio set on 27 MHz AM. This is obviously a rebadged Futaba Magnum Sport of the lowest cost to manufacture. The steering wheel does not even have a grippy rubber coating to make it easier to steer. Quite cheesy in my opinion.
Overall if you want a dead simple, reliable, easy to get going 4 wheel drive buggy this should fit the bill nicely.
