  1. I’ve come and gone a few times. I once stayed away for a bit because I didn’t care for one member who would post on everything and would alway try to point out minor inaccuracies of people’s replies. Eventually he went away. Another time I took a break from RC while going through a divorce. My entire RC collection became a marital asset that I couldn’t touch until the property portion of our estates was settled. It was weird going in my garage to see a partially built Hilux with years worth of dust on it. Recently I’ve noticed that I have nothing much to add to the discussion. I don’t have very many new tamiyas and some of the cars people talk a lot about I have no clue on. Tamiya club has lived on so long that the focus has shifted from vintage to the current vehicles.
  2. I used to coordinate office moves for my last company. Some movers are just a bunch thieving ex cons. On one move, several laptops went missing from multiple offices. I call the moving company the next day to inquire and they miraculously find a “misplaced” box with a few laptops. Moving company eventually had to reimburse my company for the rest of the missing laptops.
  3. The KBF is much wider than original Blackfoot so Tamiya subbed transmissions they would have to bring the front suspension too to match the track. So in the end you would get a KBF rere not a true blackfoot I had a Super Blackfoot with a monster beetle body and it was a solid runner. Always scared to roll that hard body though.
  4. If tamiya released the Blackfoot with a KBF tranny then it wouldn’t be a true Blackfoot rere. Where the Wild Willy 2 was such a radical departure, I like how most rere’s stayed true to their originals. The frog, hornet Grasshopper, scorcher faithful to the original flaws and all. I really like what they did on the bruiser. Looks almost like the original but everything is better.
  5. Since my last update five years ago on this car I’ve come across more parts for this car. Over the last few nights I worked to install them. So now it has A Carbon fiber upper and lower chassis, shock towers, transmission brace, bumper brace, nerf wings and Pro2 handling kit. HPI two speed transmission. Aluminum heat sink motor plate, center mount, aluminum front and rear bulkheads, suspension arms, uprights, knuckles, and upper suspension mounts. Aluminum dampers with threaded bodies aluminum spring perches. Lunsford titanium turnbuckles and hinge pins. Still on the lookout for an aluminum steering linkage and front arm mount.
  6. There is a tool called an ez-out which is a basically a reverse drill. You dril a hole in the snapped bolt then use the ez-out shoved in the hole. As you turn it to back it out the ez-out digs into the bolt
  7. That anodized sky is a tricky paint to work with. First time I used it was on a HPI cup racer body. You have to spray the body several light coats. I sprayed a piece of scrap Le an and when I put the backing paint it changed the sheen of the paint. So I didn’t back it which was a mistake because the paint is so light The next time I used the paint was on my axial blazer body. I sprayed too many to count light coats until I exhausted the can. Then I waited a couple of days before backing with silver then painted the white accents. It worked out killer
  8. There was one moment that restored my faith. It was when I was on the hunt for a set of MIP front uprights for my MIP 4x buggy. I finally get a hold of a 4x chassis chassis and find you have to use the MIP uprights. Bummed because I had a few sets of them in the past and sold them on because I felt the RCH mounts were stronger. So for about 2 years I’m on the hunt for a set. I put out wanted threads on message boards. Followed up on leads only to be rudely told their parts were not for sale. Then one day a set got listed for an insane price. Three people emailed to tell me a set was up on eBay. I bit the bullet and paid the insane buy it now. It was heartwarming to see the camaraderie among other collectors.
  9. Should have seen the price of them before the rerelease
  10. The best part of this hobby is hunting down parts at old hobby shops. Sometimes you find a treasure trove Worst part is being pestered to sell a rare item. Being told how they always wanted to do a certain build so you sell them the part and see it a few weeks later on eBay with a stiff markup.
  11. I have yet to break the seal on my rere bruiser kit I bought but from what I understand is that you can build it without the bed cap so at the minimum. A bruiser kit and mountain rider decals would give you options
  12. You build it the short 251 mm wheelbase. You need to use the staggered wheel setup with wide wheels in the rear. the decals go on in a sequence. Put the stripes on first then the window trims
  13. Finally photobucket is working. I got two of those huges bearing installed into both rear hubs on my 996. I’ve taken it on a few mountain drives and no more squeaky bearing sound.
  14. I bought an item from a German eBay seller way back on 4/28. He claims the package was returned to him as DHL in Germany is only exporting premium shipments and not ones with normal tracking. I can’t find anything on the German DHL website that says this. Is this truly the case or is he jerking my chain?
  15. I always tell this cautionary tale. Be careful with what you share with the missus about your R/C collection. My ex wife knew full well what it took to build my collection. All the buying of old hobby shop stock and selling on eBay I did. The business ventures I did to make and sell parts. The day after she asked for a divorce she printed off every entry I had in my tamiya club showroom and logged my collection as a community property asset. This precluded me from selling anything to help with lawyer and divorce costs. She took my real car because it was paid off. I had to sell her SUV at a $6k loss and buy another car to get around in. The kicker, I had to give her the value of my half of my real car just so I could keep my toy cars. So try not to brag to them about what things are worth
  16. I sanded and primed the wing with tamiya fine line primer. Shot it with gun metal and let that cure. Then shot the clear red to the shade which matched the body. The more you put on the darker the red goes
  17. Lock down has got market for RC things heated up. I’ve seen some really good deals going down and I’ve seen some surprising prices on other things. Im trying to be fiscally responsible but some deals are too good to pass up like the $500 nib bruiser kits from tamiya.
  18. With the wing on my 934 I used the PS colors in reverse then shot a few coats of the TS clear
  19. In the process of collecting bearings for my Porsche's. small one is a 6mmx2mm for the front wheels of my tamtech Porsche 962. Medium is a 5mmx11mm for the rear axles of my 934. large 45mmX85mm is for the rear axles on my Porsche 996
  20. That turned out great. How do you like running it?
  21. I just use lame bodies to try out my color combos. Never really liked the tail section on this Carrera GT so it was my tester to try the clear red with a gun metal backing combo I tried clear red and light gun metal and got this.
  22. Looks great so far. I would suggest an aluminum chassis. Your home made skid stiffens the chassis but an aluminum chassis would stiffen it further. A flex chassis is the number one reason bodies get broken.
  23. The High Lift is a great truck that has a lot of limits. They made the truck 4 wheel steering because they didn’t want to make a different straight axle for the rear. When the trucks were current, there was lots of aftermarket support then better trucks came out and popularity waned and parts dried availability dried up here is my highly aluminum Hilux High Lift chassis Its one of my favorite runners MFC-02 drops right in to give you killer sound, lights and the ability to plug an iPod in to play music through the speakers
  24. Mokei is correct the two vehicles share very little. RC4wd makes a cool blazer body https://store.rc4wd.com/RC4WD-Chevrolet-Blazer-Hard-Body-Complete-Set_p_4811.html that has a 287mm wheelbase. I’ve seen clod bodies on bruiser chassis and they look odd because the body is so narrow
  25. another one of my favorites to run is my Wild Willy 2. Slightly overpowered makes it tons of fun. The body is hammered.
