I think you missed 1 darryn!!!! What about the Fabled Mitsubishi Pajero Wheelie Jeep that Marui Made, I know that nobody has ever seen one of these cars let alone a photo but they must exist cos the word "Pajero" is clearly printed on all the Parts bag labels of the Marui Wheely Jeep spares. its gotta be the Holy grail of Marui RC collecting, If anyone ever comes across one, gimma a call []

I was at a toy fair today and saw a Kyosho Optima for sale on one of the stalls, it appeared to be in very good condition and was painted pink, but came complete with Radio, ESC, Battery, Peak Charger and Instructions manual, the Guy selling it originally wanted £98 for it but seeing as I was a fellow exhibitor he offered it to me the knock down price of £75, I was quite reluctant to buy cos I really needed the money for other things and left the fair without getting it. But there was something unusual about it that I want to get further information on, it was quite unlike any optima I have ever seen before, it was called Kyosho Optima MID Custom Special, now know that Kyosho did a lot of spin off versions of the Optima but Ive never seen one quite like this before, the body was a different shape to normal, looking more like a Salute than an Optima, and it had option house shocks, wheels and tires, can any tell me any more about this car, is it a rare special edition of some kind, and if so why the badword did I turn it down. any thoughts would be appreciated

The show has now happened and went off without a hitch, the place wasnt particuarly crowded, and we did get a couple of offers from ppl who claimed to have cars to sell, so phone numbers where given and its just a matter of wait and see. more details and Pictures of the event will be posted in my showrrom in due course, but first ive got to put all the cars back in the loft... groan

As I spend most of my online time just "floating" in the Chat room, Ive noticed sometimes that when ppl try to login they seem to get kicked out strightaway, and it can be quite disconcerting being popped in and out, and Im sure it putting some ppl off from staying in the chat room to talk, I think there may be some kind of bug in the Chat room software, I havent a clue whats causing it exactly but its irratic behavure can be quite annoying, I know you a busy man Chris, but purhaps when youve got the time could you purhaps look into it and see if there is something that could done to rectify this problem? Thanks

Right Im all loaded up ready for the show tomorrow. the doors for the Toy fair will open at about 10 am, there will be a small entrance fee of a few pounds, I believe the parking is free. we have been allowed 6 tables for our disply and hopefully we will be able to set up in some remote corner at the far end of the stalls to allow us some space to maybe do a demo run a or two. there will be a sign supporting Tamiyaclub, and we would be happy to meet and greet any club memebers that manage to come along. 1 am taking 25 cars from my collection and Richard will have a few more than that I shouldent wonder, as well as Vintage Tamiyas there will also be a number of TOY rc cars that richard will be displying, mind you these Im assured will be quite rare and intresting. I will be taking plenty of pictures of the event so keep your eyes peeled for those. see you there

What sort of spares are you after? I have what I belive is a Turbo Optima Rolling chassis (but I could be wrong it might be off a Salut) anyway, as a chassis its about 90% complete and I also have a few additional parts for it as well. Im not exactly sure what I want to do with it, I alreday have a running Optima pro, but maybe you could make better use of it. Im open to offers if your interested

we didnt miss out PLAYTRON!! check my post on page 2, I mentioned Playtron cos I own a Playtron Buggy the DOBERMAN its a 2WD electric off-roader that has a chassis very similar in design to the Tamiya Frog. yet Ive found a couple more obscure manufacturers.... Academy Minicraft (Roadrunner II - reworked World engines Rockbuster) Protech (Booster - like the Traxxas Bandit only even cheaper looking) keep em coming guys...

the swing shafts that I found fitted my Adonis are the same type as the ones fitted to the front of a Terra Scorcher, I dont know about top force ones, but they might be similar

This is a Warning to anyone considering using acetone free Nail Polish Remover for stripping paint from bodies and plastic parts. DO NOT SOAK ANY PLASTIC PARTS IN NAIL POLISH REMOVER. Ive learnt this lesson the hard way when I tried to srip paint off a pair of Sand Rover front outer wheel rims. I left them to saok overnight and the next day when i went to check on them, the fluid had absorbed into the plastic and made it bloated and soft like rubber and seems to have totally ruined them. Ive used AFNPR to remove paint from Lexan and Hard plastic bodies before, its a bit too aggressive on Lexan and tends to scratch and mist the polycarbonate surface where used, but its excellent for use on hard plastic bodied if you dip a bit on the end of a old rag and rub it into the paint, it soon eats through to the pristine plastic beneith, its hard time consuming work stripping a body that way but can get very good results and dosent seem to harm hard plastic, but Id never tried to soak anything in it till last night, now I know the folly of my ways I want everone to know my mistake and learn from it. So Dont Soak any Plastic parts in Nail polish remover cos it will ruin them. PS: dose anyone have any Sand rover front outer rims going spare?

Ive got an Adonis, it arrived the other day, i fact im building it RIGHT NOW!!! GRRRRRR@instructions [!] although they look clear enouth, they have been badly translated and in many places its telling you to use the wrong parts or fitting also some of the fittings dont fit and the machined tollerances on the metal diff bearings are very tight, as for hop-ups, in the insturctions it shows you a number of different diff set ups (optional ball diffs) and talks of ballraces and alike, the kits were produced in 1990 so any Tomy spares or hop-ups are long sinec discontinued, if your like me and an adaptive bodge-a-holic then making your own hop-ups shouldent be too difficult. did you buy it from Hi-iq by any chance? Connie Chung was having some problems with an Email virus deleting her buyer emails and Im not sure she fixed it, so you may have some problems confriming payment, use the alternative Email addresses supplied on the auction page. that might help. PS: you asked about swing shafts? well for the sake of curiocity I tried swapping a Tamiya Hop-up swing shaft on the front for the kit supplied items and it drops straight in!!! you will have to fit replacement wheels and hub adaptors though cos the Adonis originals are unique and wont fit anything else but I dont see that as much of an obstacle... Me and my friend Richard Brooks are having a Display of some of our RC cars at the Toy collectors fair that is being held at the NAC Stoneleigh this comming sunday Dec 8th. but before you ppl get too excited its only going to be a low key effair, NO buying and selling or running of cars, just me and Richard diplaying some of our collections on a couple of tables in the corner, we will be the only ppl displaying there the rest of the hall will be taken up with stalls selling old toys and related collectables, Ive been to these Fairs before and if your lucky you may find the odd old RC car or two but they are vary rare at these type of events so dont travel a long way expecting to find anything you will be sorely dissapointed. I intend to take pictures of the event and post them in my showroom in due course the NAC main entrance is on the B4113 between Leamington Spa and Stoneleigh, the NAC is well signposted off the main A46 junctions south bound from Coventry or A45 and northbound from the M40 junction 15. So if your fairly local (midlands area) and you have the time to spare then it wouldent hurt to drop by, all members welcomed I will have a sign up advertising the Club, there is a entrance fee to get into the fair (im note exactly sure but its around £5?) and the doors open about 10am? (I think) best to check back here later in the week so I can confirm the details. more info to come nearer the time.

The first Tamiya you ever saw run?(pre1990)
wldnas replied to Supershot's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Back in the early 1980's my Family would allways go on holidy to north wales every year, and one year (I think it was about 1983) we visited Black Rock Sands beach on the north welsh coast, from what I can remember it was late afternoon and I noticed a kid playing with an RC car nearby, in curiocity I went over to have a look and he was using a Sand Rover, it was screaming around in the wet sand, and he was launching it off a demolished sand castle, after watching for a few minutes he let me have a quick go (I wasnt very good) and then hes parents called he over and they after a quick goodbye they drove off home. it took me a few more years before I got my first RC -
Talk of a another TamiyaClub drive was circulating even before the Clumber Park event had finished, Chris seems keen to start the search for another venue a bit further south (possably south birmingham area) and I may know of a suitible location to hold such an event... The National Agricutiural Centre (NAC) at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, you know, the place they have the Royal show and Town and Country Festival each year. its situated about halfway between Coventry and Leamington Spa. its a massive place that plays host to all manner of club meetings, shows, events and markets all year round, sometimes they even have two or more smaller events on at one time. we would only need a small corner of this huge complex to have our little gathering and I know for a fact that they have loads of large halls and Cattle sheds with dirt floors that are undercover and would be perfect for setting up a dirt track for buggies, they have open grass areas nearby and im sure we could also find some smooth tarmac for the on-road racers amongst us. with so much undercover space it would be easy to set up a few small stalls close to the track so ppl could sell their wares properley rather than out of the boot of a car. Chris has made it know that a date between the late March and early would be best, the NAC allways has something big on for the easter period, but to organise something a week or two either side of that might be tricky, Because the NAC is practically on my doorstep I could perhaps start to make the nessasary enquiries onhow much it would cost to book for such an event, in fact my friend Richard (who was with me at Clumber) is hoping to have a display of his RC cars at the NAC in the next few weeks, ive been invited to join him and add a few of my more unusual cars to his display, so while we are their Im sure we could make a few enquires about holding something a little more subtantial, aslo I know having an event at the NAC would be a little further to go for some of the more northern members, but their are a number of very good hotels nearby that could be of use and I was also thinking that perhaps it could be stretched out to a 2 day event? thoughts anyone?

from first impressions of the MIB kit they do bear a striking resemblence to early Tamiya kits with similar box art and neatly laid out blister packs within, the engineering is a little querky and contradictory on theses cars, at one end the suspension design would be inspired and sophisticated yet at the other end it would be crude and simplistic. they slavisly copy Tamiya designs on some cars yet mutate them with their own ideas. the thing that lets maruis down the most is the quality of the plastic, its a bit hard and brittle, broken chassis on Hunters/Galaxys are very common and the Wheelie cars/big bear also suffer. also the decals dont stick very well and tend to start to lift not long after being stuck down. the best thing about Maruis cars are compared to Tamiyas of the same period they are quite cheap at the moment and they didnt make that many cars, to the best of my knowlage Marui only made about 15 or so cars during the 80's they are more into making replica firearms now but if your into something a little different then give Marui a try, their 4WD buggies are pretty good.

well I did my fair share of damage to some of my rides, the Samuari came off worst, whilst going round the circuit in one race, the right front top ball joint came unscrewed from the upright and the wheel fell over and Dog bone fell out. I was brickin it cos I knew I didnt have any spares but after about 10 mins of searching (thanks for the help guys I found it... whew!! the Lunch box also sufferd some minor damage, mind you I was givin' it some on the jumps and in typical fashion it broke the body mounts but Ive now got some new ones so it will be rectified soon. I think for the Next event I will concetrate on bringing about 6 dedicated runners, and after seeing some of the flyers today, major investment in hot motors and batteries needs to be made me thinks....

I know the feeling, I have nearly 50 cars, I hardly ever run then except to test drive in the street, and whats more I dont even have my cars on DISPLAY!! they spend most of the time boxed up in the loft. now and again I will get one down and do a bit of work on it but for the most part they stand idle. Crazy!! you bet it is and yet the only justification for doing it I have is that warm fuzzy feeling you get from just knowing That you own all that stuff. but I think you'll find most collectors of anything are exactly the same.

well all thats left for me to do is pack the car, so far Ive managed to cram 16 into the boot + all the radios, batteries, wet weather gear and such with still a little room to spare, Ive got one on the rear parcel shelf (terra scorcher) and so far 4 in the rear foot wells with possible room for another 3 ontop, the back seat is so far empty, but Ive got 9 cars in boxes to squeeze into there, I may have to take a few of them out (FX-10 and Meteor first me thinks) I was worried that they wouldent all fit and that I would have to compremise and leave a few behind but I think I will just about manage it somehow??? Im looking to be at the meeting place for 10 look for the Green Proton.[8D] PS: bought a new radio on friday and fitted it into the Icarus this afternoon, give it a quick test drive in the street and BOY does it fly, nowt but powerslides on the wet tarmac that will be the first car I drive tomorrow.[] See Yah all there []

THERES ANOTHER ONE!!!! how many more unknown Nichimo Buggies are there??? the Midships makes 5 even though like the Vantage is a Jap only pipeframe bodied version of the Spirit FF, so the Midships is a Jap only Pipeframed version of the Exceed 443. and what of the Cosmo Shooter??? does that have an obscure Japanese cousin too, that we know nothing about!!! answers on a postcard please [}]

My and Mr_Lister999 were discussing his latest aquisition the other night and trying to figure out exactly what it is, my first thoughs were it was an Early Kyosho of some kind, but weve ruled out the Land Jump and Mint LasVagas cos it dosent appear to be an IC buggy, Im sure I can see a duel belt drive with a torque clutch spur gear in the middle? Im not familure with the Vanning so we'll put that to one side for the momnet. Ive compared the designs of the Ayk Viper and Hirobo Zerda, the vipers chassis is totally different aluminium monocoque and the Zerda is double wishbone instead of Trailing arm suspension. and the Thundertiger Silverfox is an IC car again. not knowing any other electric full frame buggies of this type I'd say perhaps it is a Vanning, pics anyone?

Im way too deep in my preperations to back out now Rain or no Rain I'm going, the weathers been unsettled all week so its too close to call, even on saturday evening there will be no guarantee of what the weather will do on the sunday, Ive been trickle charging my batteries all week with the intention of using them in anger, I know chris has a valid argument that Rain will ruin the day, but I aint about to be stopped by a few drops of water. bring yeh Brollys, wellies, Waterproofs and Towels [}]

It has come to my attention that some alternative bodies, that are suitable for RC applications are currently available in any toy store. They need a lot of work and adapting to get up to the sort of standard required by our members but where else can you get the body of a NEW VW Microbus, JAGUAR XK8 convertable, Mk1 Renault Espace and Ford Angila!!! they may not be bang on 1:10 scale mind you but they are just gagging to get used on a Decent RC chassis. Want to know more.... well lets see Barbie is the one with the VW Microbus £29.99 she also has a smart VW new Beetle at about the same price. Sindy is no slouch either, shes got a Jag XK8 convertable (£24.99) and a sweet New Mini cooper with a very high quality body about 1:8 scale id say but Im not sure of the price, its probably £30 or over. seen the New Harry Potter film... it stars a Ford Angila, and you can get a toy replica of this car which is around about 1:10/12 scale. its not perticually detailed and they have modified the grille a bit but its Cheap at around £14.99 and looks like it should drop straight onto a M type chassis. the BRATZ dolls have a car, a big yank Low rider, superb quality, might fit a TL chassis? but its a bit expensive at £29.99. there are some non franchise barbie wanna be type dolls that also have some interesting rides.... in woolworths you can find for a measly £9.99 a car that is a dead ringer for a BMW Z3 convertable!! its not the best quality and sickly pink but its dirt cheap and you cant go far wrong at that [] and if you look in Toys'R'Us you might come across the "Jessica" ppl carrier which looks suspisiously like a Mk1 Renault Espace and thats only £14.99 there are others but they dont look anything like real cars so Id stay clear of those, but if you looking out for something a bit different to stick on you M or TL chassis or perpaps you have a monster truck in need of a eye catching new body then I suggest you have a look at whats going on at the other end of the toy shop... take a gamble, you might well be serprized by what you find [8D]

Am I the only person on Tamiyaclub using the Chatroom regularly? I allways go into chat when Im online and have it running minimised when Im going about my usual browsing, I know if someone eneters the room cos it makes a noise so I can check to see whos entered..... but for the most part its empty, no-one seems interested in using it, and some ppl (naming no names) come in have a quick look and log off again without even having the decency to say hello. chris has gone to a lot of trouble to get a better chatroom up and running to replace the old and useless "Shoutbox" but if ppl dont use this useful service then Im sure he could quite easily take it away from us and find some other use for the server space it occupies. Im more than willing to chat to anyone about anything, Im sure some ppl are shy but were all friends here so dont worry about it. you will probably find me in there between the times of 18:30 GMT and about 23:00 GMT I hope that Members will now make better use of this wonderful facillty.

Be very weary of buying used Tamiya SPORT TUNED black motors!!! I got 2 in an jumble of cars and parts off E**y, Ive tried them both but for some reason they overheat really badly, I tried one in my Terra Scorcher and after only a minute of running it was too hot to touch, the other one warms up rapidly when only connected to a loose battery and free running, it seams that for theses particular motors all the electrical energy from the battery is being turned into heat instead of electo-magnetic induced motion, its almost as though they are acting like giant resistors, perhaps the insulation has failed somewhere inside? Maybe I just got unlucky, and have got 2 duff motors but they dont look that old and Im wondering if perhaps they might have developed somekind of common fault?

Any good at Striping Body shells? Look! (UK)
wldnas replied to Zeemax's topic in General discussions
NITRO FUEL!!!! its one of the best thigs you will find to strip lexan, it aint cheap though, so buying enuff to fill a bucket so you can soak a body in it could easily bacrupt a person. the other method is to dab a bit on an old (clean) rag and start rubbin' it can take a while, and if the body was painted with anything other than Polycarbonate paint ot Acrilic then it may struggle to shift it. and after prolonged use it makes your fingers feel all funny and the fumes are a bit funky but not as bad as some other chemicals Ive used. but its kind to the lexan, dosent mist or scatch it like Brake fluid and Nail polish remover would, but it can be tricky to get into the tight corners especially on the spoiler side battons so use cotton buds for that. it might not get 100% of the paint off and you may be left with some small patches of the old paint which you can gengerly scrape off with a craft knife or small pin. OH and another thing its highly flammable (so take great care to keep it away from any possible scorces of igntion and also when youve finished with the rag dispose of it safely, even though if left to dry the nitro eveporates quite readily leaving very little residue on the rags except for the paint youve just rubbed off. and above all else DON'T knock the Nitro bottle over its easily done... TRUST ME Ive been there [V] -
Im no expert on Modified motors but..... I believe that the "TURN" number refers to the number of times the wire is wraped around the field coils on the armatures and generally the lower the number the faster and more torquey the motor will be, but as for double winds????
