I was wondering if any other club memebers were planning a trip to the Eastnor Model & Hobbies Spectacular at Eastnoe castle on 19th and 20th of July
It's been quite heavily advertised in Radio Race Car magazine (as their publishing group is the ones behind the orginisation of the event) and there is a website for the event at http://www.traplet.com/eastnor
Me and my pal Richard are going to pay it a visit, but I wanted to know if any other Members where similarly inclined, it seems to be an anual event, I know they had one last year and I was planning on going to that one too, but then the first Clumber park event came into being and I went to that instead, but has anyone else been to any of the previous Eastnor event and can give us an Idea as to what it was like?
I reckon this even would be an excellent oppertunity for Tamiyaclub to set up somekind of stand so they could display cars from some of the memebers and maybe even set up some kind of Vintage demostration track? I know that may be asking a lot, but it's worth a shot atlest, weve left the preperations a but late to be doing the event this year but perhaps something could be set up for next year? who knows

I have stumbled across another RC based forum thats some what similar to the one we have here, its called RcTek ( http://www.rctek.com/phpBB/index.php ) it seems to have been going a bit longer than TC and appears to be more geared up to cater for large scale RC's (1:8th/1:5th) but the main reason I find it of interest is that it has some useful information about PB cars.
I was just wondering if any other TC members knew of its existence or perhaps are members of this forum as well?

Ever sinec NetSmith updated the way the system handels the showrooms posts back in may, there has been a little number appeared next to the indervidual showroom items to denote the number of time that item has been viewed by other members.
viewing your own items dosent make the number increase, nor can you see the value of other members items as only the the user can view their own totals, but I was wondering, who has the most number of posts for any given item?

I took my Pumpkin wheels out of the "Soak" this afternoon and washed them down thoroughly and they appeared to have survived the ordeal rather well, they have no signs of the fading or the textured surface that I got on the Mudblaster wheels the week before and look to be pretty good.
I'm beginning to suspect that the kind of paint used on the wheels is probably more likely to be the cause of the fading than the use of brake fluid as a paint stripper, however the Cracking you refered to is a problem, cos when I was stripping the Mudblaster wheels, one of them suffered really badly from cracking and fell into about a dozen bits [
] I managed to glue it back together of sorts but I really need to replace that wheel now [V]perhaps old plastics become slightly pourous and the Brake fluid becomes absorbed into the plastic causing it to expand and thus crack....? it's just a theory [?]

Most of the Kyosho Monster truck (until very recently) all hark back to Kyosho's First Monster the BIG BRUTE which came out in the mid to late 80's as a direct competitor to Tamiya Black foot, to be fair it is a bigger truck than the BF, and an all original purpose built chassis (unlike the BF with a converted Buggy chassis) but its a very basic machine mechnically speaking and not really that fast, later version of the chassis added double ended Gearbox/Motor assemblies (Nissan Double Dare) and the ultimate was the USA-1 but its till only a modified version of the old Brute chassis and not really suitable for heavy customisation like the Tamiya Clodbuster/Jugg/TXT trucks
still for 75 euros with a load of Radio gear and an ESC its not a bad price, but still its a much aquired taste when compared to Tamiyas monsters [8)]

Are you sure its a Panda?
this is one of the greatist missconceptions in RC history!! "PANDA" is infact a brand name for VARICOM industries cars, for some reason Varicom prefered to sell their products under the guise of other names and Manufactures, usually with only a small Varicom logo in the very bottom corner of the box or manual to say where it REALLY came from.
I have not seem this "Stock Car" you speak of, perhaps it was just a modified version of the old Panda Buggy chassis (Grasshopper Clone) with different wheels and a stock car body on top, mind you that old Panda chassis is a real whizzer (I know cos I've got one

-
Thanks guys that sorta answers all my questions, I imagined that would be the reason behind the "missing" Badge, at first I thought I had an early type Clod but now I know I havent
still I got around the problem by cutting out the small black "Twin Star" Tamiya logo from the corner of the decal sheet and put that in its place
I will have to check out the online manual to see how differnt it really is

Actually I have some Pumpkin rims in the soak at the moment, and I did the same with the rims off my MudBlaster as well a few weeks ago, and YES they did come out slightly faded, and with a kinda dull texture to the plastic as well.
I know Brake fluid is DA'BOMB for stripping most paints of hard plastic parts but even still its a very corrosive liquid and must do some minor damage to the plastic surface, maybe it has something to do with the kind of paint used on the wheels before stripping as well, car based cellouse paint can really bite into cirtain kinds of plastic.
-
I've just aquired a new build Clodbuster that only needed minor finishing, anyway its all done now and will be in my showroom soon, but on looking it over I noticed something Odd?
on the box illustration it clearly shows the truck with a CHEVROLET badge on the front grille, when you look over the Decal sheet, there is no Badge and the grille has a plain flat surface where it should go, does anyone know why this is? did the original first batch clods have grille badges and later models had them removed or something? and for that matter what Chevy truck is the Clod body supposed to be based on, it sure aint the Blazer

OK I know a few curious ppl have been asking me about my user name, but this seems like as good a place to put this puppy to bed as any...
wldnas comes from my desire to spell the word "Wilderness" with the fewest letters possible, OK a bit of artistic licence was used in substituting the E with an A and its actuall pronounce wuld-nass.
I've been using this user name for years, even before I first came on the internet I was using it as my User name on Computer games, I use it where ever I can, even though it's alreday been taken in a few places?
but the origins of the name it self come from a Idea for a Story that I had many years ago called "Wilderness" about a guy who gives up his life in the UK, sells up everthing and travels to Australia, on arriving there he burns all his Passport, Visa and identification, then he changes his name to Will Dinas, buys a Scrambler Motorbike and rides around the Outback Lone Ranger stylee helping out ppl he comes accros who are in trouble, has many adventures, and becomes wanted by the law, for questioning about his involvement in many "incidents" and is later subject to a Manhunt from them anyway gets a bit of a "Urban Legend" status through the ways he helps out certain ppl, and after a few years finally gets cornered and caught by the authoritys and taken to court, they find out his true identity and as he is an illegal immigrant they want to extrodite him, anyway public support for him is such that protestors made up of all the ppl who he helped over the year besiege the court house demanding his release, anyway eventually through puplic pressure he is absolved of the supposed crimes and given Aussie citizenship and freed to carry on his life as he wants.....
OK I know is a really silly idea, but one of may "Story" Ideas I've had over the years that could be made into Books or Films and such like, I'd like to do more with these Ideas, but I'm no writer [
]OH and one last thing (and this REALLY annoys me) My user name IS NOT supposed to say WIDNES which a small town in the north of England, I know my user name looks a lot like it but it's WLDNAS OK [

While you guys are arguing about which Scorpion based cars came supplied with diffs and which didn't I thinkyou have overlooked something..... What about Cox and Graupner Scorpions?
I have Cox Scorpion and that came with a diff as standard, I also have the remains of what I think was a Tomahawk and that has a Diff too, Cox and Graupner cars also had various small detail differnces over their Kyosho Cousins, most notably the colour of the chassis tub which was Black, there was also some slight differnces in the wheel designs and both Cox and Graupner did their own Turbo versions, still when you compare any Tamiya SRB car agains a Scorpion based machine, in terms of performance, CHALK AND CHEESE [
]BTW: Cox also did a pick-up truck based on the Scorpion chassis called the SIDEWINDER

Hi
I have a new built Nichimo Pegasus Exceed Pro'443 in my showroom, I bought it off Ebay a few months ago but unfortunatly I had to pay a rediculous amount of money for it ($240+shipping) cos some idiot bid against me right upto my maximum bid, these kits are quite rare but definatly NOT worth the sorta money I paid unless imaculate MIB, in new built condition with a slightly ropy looking box I'd say it's probably worth about $160(£100?)or so to a collector of Rare RC Buggies like myself.
I hope that gives you some idea

-
Hi Simen
err just cos its says 99 cars, dosent nessasarly mean I actually have 99? it's the number of showroom entries that I have, the actual number of cars I have is about 85.
I do have a lot of work to do in my showroom, some of my older items are out of dats and seriously need to be updated, there are a few cars that you can see in some other entries that need their own seperate posts, and there are s few other cars that I aquired recently that need to be put up, and there are some other showroom items that could do with deleting cos I don't think they are relavent anymore.
Like I said a lot of work, and when you consider that most of my monster write-ups take about 2-3 hours to type out, thats quite daunting task

In the last 24 hours I have had two requests from 2 seperate Club members, asking if I want to sall some of my vintage Tamiya's!
Now I know these are just desperate ppl trying their luck to see if I will sell, but to be quite frank I'm getting rather annoyed by it, in the past I have had many similar requests from members asking I will sell certain cars, some have even made me quite generous offers, but the thing is, if I DID want to sell any of my vintage Tamiyas then you ppl on the club will be the first to know about it!
I will either post them up in the trade section, or here on the forum of perhaps place a note on the description of the showroom entry itself. but unless you actually see any on my cars officially up for sale then please DON'T assume that I am willing to sell [V]
It seems to be the older unrestored cars that get most attention from these would be buyers, but just because I may not seem to doing anything with a car, dosen't nessesarly mean that I intend on leaving it that way, I WILL get around to restoring all of my cars eventually, it's just a question, of time, motivation, money and spares availabillty.
I will admit that there are some cars in my collection that I may decide to sell and you may even read my intentions that are actually written into some of the write ups, but again this is just mere conjecture on my part and until I actually advertize a certain car for sale, it is not actually on the market until I do (but for those cars perhaps I could be swayed with a genuine serious offer

It seems clear to me that I am going to have to place disclaimers on all my vintage Tamiya write ups to say that those cars are NOT FOR SALE [V]
Unlike some members who can't seem to hold onto their cars for 5 mins, I'm a hoarder by nature and don't like to part with anything, so I'm a buyer not a seller, so until such time as that situation changes, all my cars will be staying with me for the forseable future.
I'm sorry to be so forward about this but I feel that I need to make my point clear about my position as regards to selling my cars.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this statement

it appears to be a very simple "TOY" grade RC chassis, probably a "Frame Buggy" of either the Radio Shack or Nikko stable.

AWWW SHUCKS BILL [:I]
I don't usually go into the Ebay forum but when our mutual friend Mr Cantrell informed me that you had posted a message on here about my attitude towards winning over a fellow member, I just had to come and have a look [
]I would have done the same for any member for whom I have a good rappor, such as yourself,
I've bought stuff from you before, you've done me big favours in the past by holding onto those Monogram kits for over a month while I was waiting to get more funds with which to pay you, you've come to me a number of times in the past for advice and information which I was all to willing to give, and I see you as both a Friend and a fellow collector/competator, so either way you have my utmost respect and although bidding against other club members is unfortunate (and as the club grows becomming more frequent) I would still congratulate or console a fellow member if they had won or lost in equal measure.
I would have done the same for Barrypops, had I known him via friendly communications through the club, but as yet I have never contatcted him and vice versa, he is developing similar collecting tastes to myself and given the amazing stuff he is aquiring, I'm becomming more impressed with his collection and starting to see him as yet another worthy Rival [
] but as for sniping each other at the last second? It helps if you can be online at the end of the auction, but even then you gotta have a little bit of ruthless streak if you really want to get what you want, also being able to back up your bravado with some cash also helps [
] but when all is said and done, there should be no animocity towards any other members regardless of the outcome, all the prizes end up on the club anyway, just in the hands of different custodians [8D]

Just when you think you know it all....... I always assumed that the Mad Wolf was a quirky 2WD made and marketed by BANDAI which looks like this....
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003222804_2.jpg
but today I went to see a guy about buying some old RC cars he had, and he said that he had 2 Mad Wolfs, one a complete running chassis the other a MIB, so when I went over to see him I assumed that I would see cars like the one pictured above, but when I finally got there, this met my eyes....
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003190812_2.jpg
to say I was more that a little surprised would be the understatement of the year [8)] I knew that in the US Bandai RC cars were briefly repackaged and rebranded by the well known US model company MONOGRAM, in fact I already have a few of their cars in my showroom, the Brushfire (which is based on a Bandai along with the Tornado) and the Thunder, Lightning and Tidal Wave which were produced originally by Yonezawa, anyway, I got a lot of releted literature with the other Mongram kits I have, but they do not mention the fact that Monogram rebadged the Mad Wolf as well?
you do see MIB Bandai branded Mad Wolfs on Ebay from time to time and I have seen them go for around the $150-180 mark, but this car is a real find, I never even knew that it existed, but to be offered a MIB and a complete rolling chassis for £130 is quite a find indeed.
The kit itself appaers to be all there, the guy selling it thinks there may be a few parts missing but from what I saw it seems intact, the box has definatly seen better days though [V] its started to sag from about 10 years in loft storage, still I think it will make a valuble addtion to my Monogram collection.
I would be keen to know if anyone else has come across the Monogram Branded Mad Wolf? or better still has anyone seen the original Bandai version of the 4WD Tornado/Brushfire hotshot clone?
any information will be greatfully appreciated as allways

I'VE FOUND ONE!!! [
]I've finally found a PB electric buggy thats actually for sale fairly locally, I haven't got the money availble to buy it just yet, but it's mine for the taking when I do, here is a picture of it....
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003190812_1.jpg
OK I admit it's an utter WRECK!! it looks like its been ragged to death in a previous life, but then I'm only gonna be paying about £25 so thats not so bad, it's single belt drive, but the tensioner seems to be missing, as does the motor mount plate, the rear suspension is trying to fall to bits, the rear wing is missing, the tires are as bald as a billard ball and the whole thing looks like it's been dragged through a gravel pile (Backwards).
still you gotta love it [
]fortunatly it does come with a manual, shame the pages are all stuck together cos some fool aparently spilt coffee all over it [
] but the pages are quite glossy so there is a chance they could be seperated [8)]OK it's not a Mini-Mustang or an Ace but who else on TC has a Maxima?

Today I went to see a man about buying some of his older, weirder and les desirable RC cars, while I was there as well as showing me the cars he had on offer, he showed me some of his other more unusual stuff, like this.....
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003190812_3.jpg
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003190812_4.jpg
Have you ever seem anything like this before??? TRANSPARENT FALCON PARTS!!! he had this new built falcon with these extreamly unusual see through parts fitted, which included, Gearbox casings, rear shock towers and front suspension uprights.
he says that they were Japaneses only special parts but was very coy about where exactly they came from, I have never seen anything quite like this before, I imagine that Tamiya made special Transparent parts for certain "In house" display models that showed the inner working of the car, but just how common are parts like these, and why were made for the Falcon of all cars? [8)]
any information about these parts would be greatly appreciated

Today I went to see a man about buying some old, rare, wierd? RC cars off him, after I had looked around the stuff he had to offer he bought out his Bruiser which is very unusual and just a bit special...
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003190812_5.jpg
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp...003190812_6.jpg
Take a close look at these two pictures, the top of the crew cab has been signed by none other than Legendary UK strong man Geoff Capes

now what the man who owns this remarkable truck would like to know is, what was the reason behind the truck getting signed, when was is signed and where, was it perhaps a prize in some sort of a competition?
the owner bought it like this from someone else who didn't have a clue how it came to be, so if anybody out there can shed any light on this little mystery then please let me know

My Email address is wldnas@hotmail.com
any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Thats the kits nips mate [
]only I thought I ought to point out that your still missing the top cover for the chain drive [
] but I see you finally managed to get hold of some of those "Oh so elusive" telescopic front dog bones [
]now that you've achieved this wonder, does that mean that you have no more spare parts left to sell me when I finally get around to buying the many parts I need to restore my Viper [

Thanks for the advise so far guys, but to be brutally honest, I don't think a "no load" test run or oil change is going to fix this, the problem has manifested it self after I did a third radio change on the truck, when I first got it, it was only fitted with a two channel and the transmission was running quite hapily in second, I took that radio out to try and fit a ramshackle 3Ch system using an old Futaba 35Mhz FM 4 Channel Tx fitted with 40Meg crystals working a Hitec single conversion 40Mhz RX to which 3 servos were fitted, a Futaba S3001, FP-S148 and a Hi-tec 3003. the S148 had a stripped gear and was very notchy so I fitted that to the Speedo, anyway I could not get the radio to operate properly, its was VERY interfearnce prone, just moving my hands around the chassis caused it to convulse violently, and during this time the speedo was wacking the truck in forwards and reverse while the shifter was griding all the gears to swarf, I gave up on that radio and waited till I got hold of an old Futaba Medallion 3Ch AM and matched it with a equally vintage 4Ch A type AM reciver and some servos, this radio functions perfectly and this is the set currently fitted, but as I said I've lost both the 2WD gear, they just won't engage instead they just grate away endlessly [
]It's my opinion that during the spasmodic funtioning of the hybrid FM Radio set I was using the radio was try to shif while the transmission was in motion and had rounded off the main selector gears of the Hi & Low 2WD gears, I did have a thought that perhaps one or two of the seletor springs have broke through the riggerous jarring they would have had, but I guess nothing short of a complete strip and rebuild of the transmission will give the final answer.
I may try your Oil change method WillyChang but I'm not that hopefull of success [V]
If the worst comes to worst, where might I download a detailed exploded diagram of the Transmissions inner workings?
-
Unfortunatly the gear shifting is the same even if I use either the servo or my hands [V]
-
I've finally managed to find and fit a 3Ch radio to my Bruiser now that finally works (Thanks for that goto Biggus and Jimbo
but just when I think I've finally got it all sorted I find out I now have a big problems with the gear seceltion and this is no fault of the radios [V]The 4WD gear does still work, that locks in OK but its the other 2 2WD gaers that I'm having trouble with, when I try to engage them I just get that horrible knashing noise as the teeth on the selectors just bounce over each other instead of messing properly and locking the selector rings into place, on looking at the cross section view of the gearbox I can see that there are supposed to be a number of small springs on the main seletor shaft, could it be that if some of these springs were broken then they won't have the pressure to engage the selector rings properly selectors? or is it due to the fact that the teath on the selector have rounded off so no longer able to engage properly?
does any have any Idea what the problem might be, cos I'm not too keen on the idea of taking the gearbox apart to see whats wrong incase I screw it up good and proper.
any advise you ppl can give me would be greatly appreciated

Updated pics of my scorpion restoration
in Kyosho
Posted
I've got a Scanner AND a manual for the COX Scorpion/Sidewinder
in fact while we are on the subject the car that Shodog is restoring IS a COX Scorp and not a Kyosho one?
and before you say it YES!! I know it has Kyosho Stamps all over it, but trust me the COX scorps had BLACK chassis and the original Kyosho ones were either Yellow or White on the Turbo versions.
then again some of the German Graupner Scorpions also had Black chassis as I recall :S
