call me a dunce, but i,ve bought myself one of kyosho,s excellent looking 1/8th bike kits - with the moving rider (mk2 i believe?).
but for the life of me, i just cant grasp what radio gear i need for this kit (it hasn,t arrived yet, so i know nothing about it).
why is the proper kyosho radio gear no good?, does it take standard size servo,s and reciever?, does the tamtech radio gear fit and if so what does that sort of radio gear consist of?,whats a CPR unit - is that the reciever/speed controller/servo all in one?.
it might make a bit more sense when the kit arrives - hopefully!.
cheers,
james.

well i managed to get a new crank case..... thanks to modelsport uk. its on order, and it cost around £25 + P+P.
i wont be so heavy handed with the head bolts this time.........
-
hi,
should of arrived by now mate, have you tried contacting the seller?.
i,m in the UK aswell, and i also buy a few bits from hong kong and the USA. the items are always here well within 2 weeks - via air mail (he says - touch wood).
cheers,
james.

thats the thing, you never can tell how much some parts are going to cost. i dont mind buying a new engine casting if its cheap enough. but like you, i also mess about porting and tuning these engines, but £40 a go for your average piston/liner kit is a bit of a steep price to pay when you get "carried away" with the mini drill....
if more engine parts were interchangable - and cheaper - i think it would double the fun of running these kind of cars.
still, live and learn eh!.

this really is about as good as my luck gets........ after running my TGX to the point where it got so hot and died a few weeks ago - more like melted - i decided to look for another engine. as if by magic, one turns up on ebay. it turned out to be a brand new, never ran thunder tiger PRO-15BXS. but most of all, it was cheap. i watched the auction all week and sniped it at the last moment to win. total price - including P+P was less than £50. well it arrived today and looked spot-on apart from the clutch end part of the crank was different. my plan was to strip both engines and hopefully fit the tamiya crank to the thunder tiger engine, so i could stick to using tamiya parts. after both engines were stripped, it became clear this idea wasn,t going to happen. no worries i thought, it just means i,ll have to buy thunder tiger flywheel and clutch parts to make it fit.
after a hour or so messing about with various ideas, i decided to build the thunder tiger engine back up.....this is where it goes wrong...
i built it all up and last of all, came to fit the head. the head gasket is ultra thin, so i decided to make sure the head bolts were nice and tight. we dont want them coming loose and causing trouble now do we.......
i "beefed" them all up nicely and on doing up the last one, it went slack on me......oh dear......
i knew it was going to be bad and for a moment i was scared to look.....it wasn,t until a bit fell off, that i braved a peek...
i cant work out how to put a picture into a forum topic, so i,ve put the picture in my showroom and added a link - thats easy!.
needless to say, this engine is f*****!. i wish i could tell you what it ran like or sounded like, but i guess now, i,ll never know..
lifes a bummer sometimes eh! [

ah yes....mmmmmmmmm, (these kind of sales "dont" really happen, do they...wink,wink,nudge,nudge..[
]). but i know a "friend" of mine[
] who has bought items this way and also sold items this way without any problems.at the end of the day, what ebay doesn,t know about, can,t hurt them.
even if they found out, what can they do?, send the "ebay-boyz" around to where you live and "teach you a lesson"? [8)], i dont think so - although they do know where you live........[xx(]
-
hey no worries!, no offence taken [
], but you never know......the reserve is £140 which is a bit more reasonable (i think?), but as with all my auctions, i,m open to offers and i dont mind finishing this one early if a decent offer comes my way..."hint","hint","hint"..
cheers!,

i think thats a fair price isn,t it?

just thought i,d "promote" another of my sales. if you look in my showroom you,ll see an unbuilt hotshot - well, its now built and for sale. it has a "BUY IT NOW" option for all you "BIN" dwellers out there [
], but it also has a reserve too. its not cheap i know - but it is a beautifull looking car, and it honestly does shine. heres the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=3141847735its open to europe, USA and canada, so if anyone has any questions feel free to drop me a line. but unfortunately i,m working out of town for the first part of next week and may not be able to get to a computer (unless i manage to find an internet cafe), but any mails will be answered, so dont panic. [
] (i should be back for wednesday night).cheers!,

] yeh, there is definately a certain "rush" to manual last minute sniping. it sounds silly really, but my heart always races and my nerves jangle!, but pressing the "enter" button and seeing my user name appear in the last few moments is a great feeling. sometimes i use my mobile, but thats a bit hit and miss. i have sniped and won auctions that way, but there is a slight delay (time wise) using that method. chances are, i wont even find 5 minutes to use that either, so the "hired gun" method seemed the only way. if i was clever enough, i could set up more than one auction sniper account and set each one of them up to snipe the auction at set intervals during the last 2 minutes. that way i might "block" any other possible bidders, do you think thats possible? [
] - although thats starting to sound a bit obsessive though i think [
].maybe i could find an internet cafe...mmmm....does anyone know if there are any in cambridge? (uk).
needless to say, i,ll be deeply miffed if this doesn,t work,[
][
].here,s to us "lone gun men". its a lonely life, but it can be very rewarding.
cheers!.

ok, i know this is a delicate subject but....i,ve set up an auction sniper account with a company called LOTSNIPE. now normally i do my own sniping, but on this occasion i can,t do that, so i was wondering, are they any good?. it was free to set the account up and set the sniper up ready, but are they genuine?, does anyone else use these people?, are there any "hidden" catches to using a system like this?.
anyone got any tips or advice?.
cheers!.
james.[

well said chris! [^] . i think at the end of the day, it was just becoming another excuse for some of our resident "girls" out there to get their handbags out and have a good old *** (a bit like the sniper issue the other week.....) [
]and yeh, i think your right about this heat....pheweeeee!!!!!

well, i,m no expert on this, but from a buyers point of view, all it does is bump up the price of a potential bargin. there is too much over-priced **** on ebay as it is. i dont mind paying good money for NIB kits or parts, but why should i trawl ebay for incorrectly listed "bargains", only to find someone has also found that same item and blabbed about it on a forum like this and caused the price to get out of hand. i,m watching a couple of "bargains" at the moment, and i,ll be well miffed if word gets out.
from a sellers point of view though, its great!. after all, thats part of the fun selling stuff on eabay!.
personally, i think we ought to keep quiet about them, and only discuss them AFTER the auction has ended. at least that way we all get to "learn" about ways of finding those incorrectly listed potential "bargains" and no-ones paid through the nose for a pile of worn out over priced, used and abused ****.
well, thats my 2 pennies spent!,[
].sorry if i,ve upset anyone - not intentional!.
cheers.
-
hey andy, thats F***** mate![
]. makes a change though, that kind of thing usually happens to me [
]. -
all i do is fit the tyre to the wheel as normal, then just gently roll the tyre edge back slightly so to expose the wheel and the groove the tyre fits into. then just put a decent drop of superglue into the exposed part of the rim and the roll the tyre back into place, making sure its seated properly in the rim. i do that in four places on the outside of the tyre and four places on the inside of the tyre. making sure after each glue that the tyre is seating properly. i,ve not had any running problems...yet.
-
what i,ve found once i,ve glued the tyre is, even if you only put a small spot of glue in say, four places around the wheel (all opposite each other) once the tyre is pulled back on the rim, the glue runs around the rest of the rim anyway - capillery action, i think its called? although i,m probably wrong on that term!. vintage tyres seem to be ok because the 3 piece wheel set up clamps the tyre. this has come about because i wore the tyres out on my nitro racer the other day. i bought some new ones but i couldn,t get the worn out tyres off the old rims. i managed to eventually rip one tyre off but the wheel looked a right mess so i had to buy some new wheels(doh!). i,ve had to glue the rear tyres on my blitzer beetle aswell because thats been a bit hopped up lately, and there,s no way i could get the power down without the wheels spinning inside the tyres (it was just like a nitro car!).
i,m happier now i know that i dont have to keep buying wheels everytime i want to change a tyre [
] -
hey, thanks very much!, i,ll give that a try [
].much appreciated!.
-
sometimes tyres have to be glued onto the wheel rims. thats all very well, but when they wear out, how do you get them off again without wrecking a perfectly usable rim?. i,ve considered putting the wheel/tyre into some boiling water to try and melt the glue....would that be possible?.
any help or ideas would be gratefull.
cheers!.

thought i,d just tell you boys and girls out there in tamiyaclub land, about one of my sales. i,ll be sorry to see this go, so i,ve put a reserve price of £250 on it (rightly or wrongly), which isn,t bad considering completely original hotshot kits sell for double that.
i,m not too fussed if it doesn,t sell, because that means i get to make it[
], but after its built it will still be listed again anyway[V]. heres the linkhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=3140374202
for a couple more pictures, check out the pics of it in my showroom.
talla, and have fun. oh yeh, this sale is open to europe and USA, and i will only accept paypal from an overseas winner (if there,s a winner at all..)
cheers!.
-
but its a USA only sale though - no good to us europeans!.

try www.modelsportuk.com i get most of my spares from them. if you dont see what you want on their web site, give them a ring. they know their stuff[

shipping such a large box outside of the UK sounds like a lot of worry, then theres the hassle of payment. if the reserve isn,t reached at the end of the auction, i might have a re-think on that one. i still think £200 is a very reasonable price, but ebay is slow at the moment and people are still spending good money on buying ****, makes no sense to me!.
-
we,re getting into the last day or so before the end of the auction for my restored scorcher and the reserve hasn,t been hit yet - the reserve is £200. its not cheap i know, but this is a very nice example, and we all know how expensive these cars are to restore dont we..... so come on boys and girls, lets see those bids!. this is a UK sale only i,m afraid - sorry!. heres the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...2&category=1200
have fun!.

oh yeh, its a toad....boy, can they ride quads...faster than your average frog. they dont wear crash helmets because they,re more like "hells angels". if i,m bidding against a toad for this quad, i think i,ll retract my bid...dont want any trouble now....[8)]

another 1/8th bike "newbie"....
in Kyosho
Posted
yeh, i noticed the futaba set-up in modelsports catalogue aswell, they do a battery aswell, and they also offer a "deal" price for these items for about £90ish. they also list the bikes for £80ish, but i,ve just ordered mine from stella models (in hong kong), it comes with some kind of washer - apparantly for the frame. total price (including shipping) was £61ish - pretty good i thought. the futaba stuff looks ok, but i,ve heard its a bit naff - is that true?, it looks ok.
still a bit baffled though.........[8)]
