I don’t believe you can buy the battery cover in isolation and I simply don’t want to buy an entire system.
and yes I don’t get why so many people lose their battery covers….I usually ask but this was aFacebook purchase so had to act quickly or miss out…

I purchased another Tamiya chassis with full radio gear and spare set of tires for a great price. The radio gear was Futaba T3PRKA but guess what the battery cover is missing and the seller just says they lost it some time ago. I will try and make something work but was wondering on the very slim chance if anyone has a spare (perhaps from a broken transmitter) or has a 3D file so I could get a friend to print me one out.

I was lucky enough to pick up one of these second hand recently on local trading site which I will add to my showroom once access is sorted. It is in relatively ok condition, one broken stay, mast joiner snapped but has two new mast sections (I will probably joined with some brass rod or the likes) and the keel moves up and down a little and I would like to remove it but she is well are truely stuck - I might just live with that as probably won’t put in the water as a result (I did want to have one sail with it). Has electrics but No transmitter (like many of you I have plenty of those lying around).came with its original stand, manual, and pre painted sailing crew which are still in their box. It has had a real journey as the owner lived in Asia where he built it for his kids but he moved back to NZ and it was taking up room , not being used and kids have grown up and all live in different parts of the world. Also had some stickers from the race
Any suggestions on how to remove keel without drastic cutting measures naturally would be very welcome.

Is it just me or does the main site have issues? I have been a subscriber for 20 years there is there anbout and paid £15 as required annually 3 days ago but still can’t add a new model. Is there something I am missing?

In essences the starter unit is just a battery with a momentary switch and a plug so you can get power to the electric motor. Might be easier to make one up as these I believe are hard to find these days. Even change the plug on the truck in need to something you have a male and female for if you can’t find the right connecting plug. Good luck and have fun.

I hope you get this resolved. There is always someone trying to take advantage which ends up ruining it for others.

This just sold on our local trading site for $101NZD. I was watching it but forgot about it unfortunately (got side tracked on a real car)as I would have loved to have the box. I already have a couple of these and some aftermarket decals. Box looked pretty good but not perfect but given age very good. Annoying thing was that I had put a bid down and the chap who bet me is a trader and was apparently getting out of the hobby but is still active from time to time which is fine of course. Will keep an eye out to see it reappears at some stage.

I would love a set of original style reproduction Wild Willy tires also.

I apologise if this has already been well covered. I have always wondered since the re release of the Sand Scorcher and Monster Beetle why Tamiya re releases the Sand Scorcher Body set (51406) but has not re released the Monster Beetle bodyset especially given many parts from them are the same in the re release models (nose cone the obvious difference). I guess they just wanted people to buy the complete kit and it was a lot chapeaper than the full Sand Scorcher kit. I would still like to see the Monster Beetle bodyset re released.

Good to see a porsche that is not a limited edition for a change.🙂 That said 47429 911 GT3 Cup VIP 2008 is still around and can be picked up very cheaply these days.🙂. Will get one of these when they become available down under here in NZ.

My wife says I have no runners as I never seem to find the time to run any. I have plenty of cars (far far too many) both on road and off-road which could of course run with little to no work. The challenge would be to find all the corresponding transmitters ( a lot of my stuff I guess would consider vintage given the radio hear mainly use tnx and Rc chips…..I do have some 2.4ghz but they are in brushless or nitro chassis(non tamiya). Now where are the batteries………? 🙂

Thankyou….still keen for a full version of the standalone M03 instructions also if someome has one that could scan and share would be very appreciative.

Would anyone have a copy of the M03 stabiliser instructions they could share with me or point me to a site that already has them please? Thanks.

Thanks I will give that a go

Thanks guys. I might just trim the bead of the tire and fit to the foam rim. I tried them with the bead still on and they are very tight and suck the middle of the tire to bend in toward the rim so you don’t have a flat surface on the ground , just the inner and outer edge of the tire. These are solely for static display so I will try that when I get some time and not looking to purchase any other tires.

Nope don’t keep records otherwise others might stumble across them….and we all know who we are talking about here (our better halves). It’s hard enough spreading out purchases in the bank account not to draw too much attention but I know they know deep down. It’s a hobbie not an investment at the end of the day imho.
you only live once, and as as long as you pay for the important and must have things in life (which RC hobbie is a really nice to have as opposed to a must have) spend what you like as long as is not impacting others.
I fall into the trap of buying something cheap and often not Tamiya and then end up buying all the bits it is missing or needed to make it semi complete again with the view to sell on to reinvest in what I like in RC …..but often I just end up keeping most things….and the pile of boxes just keep on growing….oops….sorry honey!

Selling - make sure the service you use covers loss of items….I had to claim insurance for a lost hot trick chassis many years ago as the purchaser claimed it never arrived…..insurance was automatically covered as part of the standard parcel service I used.
Buying second hand….I don’t know how many times a transmitter turned up without a battery cover - I lost count and wasnt quick enough to always ask the question. I had no need for them but is was annoying not to get what you thought you were expecting. Things I ask these days are - are there any broken parts, are their any parts which are not genuine I.e. scratch built as a repair, is the battery cover for the transmitter there?, and if it claimed that it runs fine ask if the drive train is smooth and not making a lot of noise (subjective I know). Check the photos carefully! At the end of the day it is often like buying a real car secondhand - buyer beware as it is more than likely to have issues which are not obvious and not disclosed. A photo helps but even those can’t show everything.
I still buy second hand things and work on the theory that as long as most of the purchases are good they balance out the odd bad one. I always wait and check before placing feedback.
japan sellers (not all of course) are a PITA as they clog up auction sites with ridiculously priced items…..topic has been covered in another thread on here.
Covid killed shipping costs generally to me in NZ coupled with GST(tax) being collected form auction sites has resulted in me purchasing more stuff locally which is good for local hobby stores (when they have a sale on) which is a good outcome. Still the odd small purchase from overseas but way less than I used to (which my wife is much happier about also)
Happy hunting for those bargains or hard to find parts everyone 🙂

Ok I have a couple of 58230 porsche GT1 bodies which were for the f103 chassis I believe. Not having any of these chassis’s in my hands I recently picked up a second hand 3racing chassis which I plan to adapt and put one of the porsche bodies on. It’s is never going to be run so will just be a static model. I have tried to locate some original wheels at a reasonable price and will keep looking. The only ones that are a reasonable price are black ones but for foam tires. I managed to pick these up locally (don’t laugh) as I believe these are similar measurements to tamiya (and they cost about the price of 3 cups of coffee for the two sets). They are new and might try and see if the tires will fit a Tamiya rubber tire rim (I have one set of Tamiya ones in transit - not the ones I really want for the Porsche however) . I could also just adapt the wheel huds to accomodate these tires and rims as is. - front wheels with plastic bearings and the rear I think would need a 7mm hex to accomodate the Nikko rims.
Anyone else tried something similar?
Please note Correction as I had TA03 body picture included (still is) as opposed to correct bodies.

Picked up a parts chassis to support a couple of other chassis’s I have and this Esc was in it and had obviously been left in a damp place for a while based on the screws and the fact that the momentary button incorporated into the corner of the ESC disintegrated but I could use a wire or a small screw driver to fire it into life and also turn if off. As you can see in the picture the switch was small, my eyesight isn’t what it use to be so I got the magnifying glass and soldering iron out which has a fine point and managed to put a dab of solder onto the places where the switch has come off and then grabbed a couple of pieces of wire and presoldered them of course and managed to solder then in and when the wires are connected it starts the esc up and shuts it down so success for now. Got the glue gun out to provide some support and keep any moisture out ( well keep some of it out). Have purchased a small momentary switch when it arrives from overseas.. sorry o forgot to take a pic of the esc before I glued it up…

took a phot of what was left of the switch and placed it beside a biro pen for size reference.
does anyone know the specs or maker of the esc?

Picked up this HSP brontosaurus Pro in a package deal along with a couple of old Vkar Bison’s , a multi charger (AC and DC), 2x 5500 11.1v 65c-130c burst lipos ( one is a little puffy) , 2 x 3500 11.1v 25c lipos plus et another plastic parts box ( I guess one can never have too many of those) all for not a lot of money thinking hey if I can get one of them to go I can probably part the rest out. I spent half the day mucking around charging batteries, fixing broken wires on a transmitter battery connection and managed to get all 3 to run which was a surprise as they are all cheap 2.4G. The HSP wheels were binding so some quick sanding of the back of the hex’s sorted that’s immediately. Lots of other issues as expected on the vkars such as large split in one tire, a couple of shock bottom collars missing, lots of dirt and gunk yet to be cleaned off them all- that is perhaps a tomorrow job. Some WD40 on the rusty bits is in order. Need to drill some holes for one body which is not original(still has plastic on the outside despite a lot of scrapes from use).
The Vkar’s electrics all work well once you realise the power switches on the controllers need a firm switch on but the HSP is a different story as it goes well in forward but brake and reverse are temperamental to say the least. I have googled the esc and you tube for suggestions on how to calibrate the 80a novatech esc but can’t find anything. I know I should probably just move it on but I don’t want it to beat me if you know what I mean. The issue I have is the esc has no set button - just an on and off switch. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can calibrate this it if it is at all possible?
thanks in advance and some photos of the beasts.

I got caught out yet again……grrrrrr

Thanks all especially Scoobymonster…. Local hobby shop indeed had it. I phone them and initially they thought they could help…but then perhaps not… then they would make more enquiries to then receive an email within 20 mins saying they had it in stock in the shop……will have it posted which will end up costing more that the part ….oh well at least I will have a complete 2.4ghz system for a great price. Good to know you can get parts that are not advertised anywhere……well for current models still on sale….🙂
