  1. It wasn't leaking oil until the jerks at Pro Lube got their hands on it! Even now I'm not sure, it might just have been residual from the oil change. I like the truck, Hairyguy, have fun! I wish I could afford to jack mine up, but with gas prices the way they are....
  2. Right now, I'm looking at Yotatech.com and Toyotaoffroad.com. The group on the later seems a little more laid back, but I don't think their boards are as active as the Yotatech ones, though I'm not positive about either one, I was hoping someone could speak from experience. Incidentally, what year Hilux are you looking at? Rajicon: I was under the impression that Chilton repair manuals are better than Haynes. Either way, I definitely plan on buy one, as well as this: http://www.amazon.com/Restore-Classic-Body...4385&sr=8-4 My truck has the standard Toyota body rot around the wheel wells (I think they were sold like that )! The good news is it does drive, my dad and picked it up and drove it back 50 miles with no trouble.
  3. I just bought my first 1:1 scale car, a 1989 Toyota 4Runner! I can't deny that I'm quite excited right now ! Here's what I got: The truck needs some work, but I'm actually looking forward to working on a full size car, and learning the ropes of auto repair. However, with this new project, I'm looking for a good forum to bring my inevitably newb-ish automotive questions. I'd like to find the Tamiyaclub of the 1:1 scale world, a place where I won't get flamed for asking ridiculously simple questions, and with members who are as helpful as those on TC. So, If anyone of you who work on full size trucks knows of such a forum, please let me know.
  4. It's hilarious that they couldn't ID the Ford Model A! And another event I imagine must have transpired if, in fact, they were discovered by accident is as follows: "Man opens doors, surveys the scene of classic cars with building excitement, until he spies the mid 90's Volkswagon Jetta; 'How did that get in here!?!?'"
  5. I think DJ-Theo used to have a cat named Tamiya. I'm not really a cat lover (I prefer German Shepherds and Rottweilers), but I've developed a new appreciation for them after discovering "i can haz cheezeburger" (google it).
  6. I disappear from these boards for a few weeks and look what Tamiya does! I love it! To me, this is the first of the Hi-Lift series that really strikes a chord with me, maybe because it's the first body that isn't recycled! Then again, I love the Tundra, it's WAY better than other American pickups. Dready: I think the monster mirrors are great !
  7. This is tough, there are soooo many great cars on TC. But my top four would have to be as follows: Ihaveabruiser's TREKKER and 4Runner: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...605&sid=597 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...839&sid=597 I absolutely love these trucks, but all of his crawlers are impressive. Grahoo's Hotshot: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...482&sid=418 This has already been linked, but it's too awesome for me not to mention it. cardesigner's TLT scaler: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...30&sid=7011 It just looks right. There are so many others, but these are my top picks.
  8. I don't know what it is, but so far I see Tamiya as 0-for-2 as far as the CR-01 goes. Somehow, the dimensions never seem right. Maybe the wheels are too big, or the chassis's too short, or the body's mounted too high, or something! The CR-01 just doesn't look right to me (the price is ridiculous, too).
  9. The Prowler and Hemisphere wouldn't fit on any touring car chassis; they're shaped too weird . Maybe, they could be adapted to fit on an F1 chassis, but even that probably wouldn't work out too well.
  10. Illacrew, it's great to see you're actually going through with this and not just talking about it. The former happens all too often on internet forums! I've said this before, but I might as well repeat it; I'd love to see a Jeep M715 body. However, I don't know anyone else who'd be too thrilled about a Jeep M715, so that probably would work for you. Another set of bodies I'd like to see are some of the wild Hot Wheels body designs. They may not be realistic, but I still think it'd be awesome to see them perched on top of a touring chassis. EDIT: I had to add this one, it's one of my very favorite body designs: I'm not sure if licensing could become an issue, but if Pro-Line can pull a complete rip-off of the Halo Warthog and get off scott-free, it might be feasible.
  11. Hi, I live in Hartford county, and, though I'd like to compete, I don't think it'll work out. However, would I be allowed to show up on Friday or Saturday to run practice laps with my Hotshot and just check out what's going on? It's awesome to see this happening in my own backyard!
  12. It appears I've played the fool , and looked for my info in all the wrong places! I'll continue this conversation by PM.
  13. By CT, do you mean Connecticut? Maybe there's a chance I'm not the only vintage fan in the state! I wouldn't hold out much hope for a vintage class being started around here, though. The nitrohead punks in running all the tracks around here probably didn't know what a Hotshot was until Mr. T rereleased it. Some tracks are so far gone they don't even run an off-road electric class at all. There just aren't enough vintage enthusiasts to start a vintage class in this part of the country, but even if there was, I doubt a friendly attitude would last long. The deep-pocketed hardcore racers would make it miserable for people just wanting to have fun. Pessimistic though it may be, that's my take on vintage racing in New England.
