I think i am going to drill out the piston discs i have now and see how that is . everything else seems fine inside them .
-
the rear end and was assembled tonight , but I chose to stop the rebuild until I can figure out these shocks . They are just horrible , maybe i built them wrong . They are very stiff , and don't make the suspension useless .
I also needed to pickup some new hardware to mount the crp front brace .
i found out that the new crp dogbones will not work with my worn drive cups , so the original dogbones will be used until i order new drive cups .
here is the rear end so far ...

How's the Falcon going?
I just received the new holiday buggy wheels and tires today , so I should have it built later tonight . I update my falcon threadfalcon build thread later .
-
I will be using those tires for shelf only .
I went and picked up a couple king pins today , tear down and rebuild will start in about a week . I have to finish my Falcon first .
-
just a update .. .
I received the buggy a few days ago .
the wheels are just spray painted with black paint , it should come off very easily .
I have not done a tear done and cleaning yet .
the parts that I can see that will need replacing are ;
one bottom shock eyelet ,
the servo mount blocks are slightly cracked ,
a couple screws are not the correct kind ,
needs a wing and new decals(paint is in great shape)
original tires are not cracked or dryrotted , but they are fairly worn . they are not glued to the rims , so cleaning the spray paint off should be easy .
Found out that the motor is not a Le Mans , it is a Yokomo Twister ( redish label )
I will post up some pics after I get it cleaned up and re-assembled .

I just purchased a Optima mid . Not sure of exact condition , as i have yet to receive the car . It is still in transit from original owner . however , I do have some pictures to show off .
I know it will need new Kingpins and a wing . I will probably just order a repo body set of ebay and do a Box art replica .
this will not be a shelf queen , none of my r/c's are . But I doubt it will see much track time , maybe 6 runs a year .
I need to source out some modern wheels and tires , as I would like to keep the originals as they are ( even if they are worn )
the white nylon wheels need to be cleaned up ( looks like spray paint on them )
I need to figure out the best way to polish the chassis as well .
This project is the next one for me , after I finish my Falcon .
Enjoy ( everyone likes pictures
)

Rebuilt my shocks ...
not very happy with the out come though .
they are very stiff , especially for a buggy shock .
I am using 25wt associated oil , stock springs , 2 hole pistons .
hmmm... not sure what to do .
maybe drill another hole in the piston ?
the springs don't seem to be to stiff , it is the rebound of the shock that is .

Holiday Buggy is DT02. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Mark
ooops that's what i meant , dt02 not df02
tamiyavancouver ... i live in Delta ! . nice to see some more vintage people in the area .
-
there is a pair of crp dogbones on ebay right now for $4 buy it now price .
these drive cups also work, i think they are identical to the re re holiday buggy ones , cause it is built on the df02 chassis .
and here is a set of falcon drive cups and crp dogbones
falcon drivecups and dogbones on ebay
i am not the seller , i just have them saved in myebay watch list .

What is the best way to get these clean and the Yellow , looking like new ??
degreaser ?
dish soap ?
???
-
Finally my parts from CRP arrived .
still waiting on my new "r" parts bag ( new front shock tower pieces ) to come from ebay . I am getting charged $28 usd for shipping , so it better get here quick !!!

meanwhile , I stripped the old paint of the body . There was generic green spray paint on the outside of it , and original cream colored tamiya paint on the inside .
I used DOT4 brake fluid to remove the paint . There are some cloudy areas , but it doesn't matter because this will be a 'runner' body . I am going to order a new body set in the future to use as a display body .
I am think i am going to go with a Black and Silver paint scheme .
Any ideas for me ???
Also , any thing I should know about when I go to rebuild the shocks ... ?

Hope you didn't mind that I used your picture of your falcon . I just thought it was a great example of a restored falcon . and it is what I hope mine will look like when i am done .
Update ( not much of one though...)
I just ordeedr the CRP dogbones and chassis brace , as well as a bearing set .
the body in my pictures , the green one . Is in good shape , only 2 small cracks . so i will see if I can strip the paint off and repaint it with some repo decals . I may have to break down and order a wing though . I have my eye on the aluminum one from Dirt burners .
If I can save my existing body , then I will spend the extra cash on the nice wing .
I am still looking for a set of Rear Tires . i have found some , but the seller wont ship to Canada .
And after some thought of making this into a runner with modifications , I have decided that i will be restoring my falcon to near stock . the only thing I may change is the Mechanical speed controll . I still have the original , but I will probably install a Esc . Just in case I want to take it for a rip around the track once in a while . It will mostly be a shelf queen . A reminder that this is the kit that i got first when I was 14 and why I still like the hobby today .
-
still no progress on the restore ... but i still seem to posting about it .
I have found a nice complete falcon on ebay , so i should be able to get spares and parts I need to turn this buggy into a runner . and still have a shelf queen too .
I also found this front wing made by PARMA . it is made out of Kydex plastic . looks cool .
-
Well . Nothing new done to the Falcon yet .
I have been working on my associated t4 to run on a new local indoor track .
However , I have found that there are "R" Parts ( front shock towers etc . ) on ebay right now . But HOLY **** is shipping ridiculously expensive for a couple pieces of plastic , even if it is international . the buyer wants $ 22.50 !!! just for shipping .
sorry if this seller is some one from this forum , but wow ! .
I am watching the item , if anyone wants needs them I thought I would let everyone know .

so far I found E Parts and the B parts , I just bought a team associated t4 so r/c funds are tight right now with xmas a week away . I will have to order the parts bags after boxing day . The Parst are going to run me about $60 USDollars ... to get them over here to canada

I will keep a look out for the elusive R parts bag for the Falcon , as I would really like to restore the falcon back to original condition . But since they never come up for sale , and a complete falcon kit are frequently up for sale , I may just buy a whole car and take what I need and sell the rest . Only issue is that , what if the R parts are broken on it as well .
atleast if i fit a bearhawk/blitzer front end on my falcon , I can run it in the 2wd buggy class at my local track(s) . and not have to worry about breaking my expensive R parts LOL .
the point of this build was to run a kit from the 80's against the new modern kits that everyone races at my track . I want to show them that equipment is not as important as driving skill . Plus they just look better than modern kits .
I really appreciated all the help and information from everyone in the forum . Thanks again !!!!

Did not get much done today .
Clean all the parts fairly well , misssed some areas . Re lubed everything .
Found out that I need new R Parts . ( shock towers are cracked )
I am pretty much at a dead end with rebuilding it , as i need new r parts in order for it to be ready to run .
I am contemplating selling it .
The body is actually in good condition , aside from the horride paint job . It was painted by the original owner when the kit was new . then repainted by me as a kid with green spray paint on the outside of the shell , covering the original paint job .
I read somewhere that DOT3 Brake fluid removes the paint from the shell , is that true ?? if so , i will repaint the body and mount the decals and lights/driver body/head etc . it will look much better .

Just to clairfy , the last pic , is NOT my buggy , it is a example of what I want my finished project to look like . My buggy is the ugly one in pieces .
As far as front end problems ... I can't seem to even find a BEARHAWK front end . What parts bags would I need to put one together ??
Is the stadium blitzer front end also a suitable replacement ?
I have easily found the CRP dogbones , there are lots of them out there .
-
So I found a Falcon in my parents storage today , it was my first real r/c car when I was a kid . I have not been involved in r/c at all for the last 7 yrs , so technology has come along way since i was racing my Kyosho Inferno 1/8 nitro buggy , my team associated tc4 and of course my M03 mini cooper (which i still have ) .
The plans for the falcon are to restore it to like new condition . But with some modern hop ups . and a new body of course !
Such as , Aluminum Shocks 60mm/front , 70mm/rear ,
Ballraced ,
hex adapters to run modern rim/tires ,
CRP dogbones and chassis brace .
Probably try and find some Holiday Buggy outer/inner drive cups ( i hear it helps keep dogbones from falling out )
I will use a old ESC and AM rx/tx I have laying around .
Would really like to get a LIPO package so I can have Looooonnnnnngggg runtimes

Stock motor
Here are a few pics of what I am starting with . Got some spares too .

This is a photo i found in the showroom --- basically what i am trying to achieve with my buggy . Probably a custom paint job though .
I think this looks great for a 24yr old buggy .

My front shock towers ( R parts tree ) are looking pretty weak at the shock holes at the top , they need to be replaced , but iam having NO luck finding where to buy some replacements .... anyone have a source for those parts ????
Well , I will try and keep this updated as I go .
Any Comments or questions are welcomed
Thanks !!

Can i add spacers somewheres ? or better yet how can i modify the stock friction type shocks so i have a lower ride hieght ?
-
So can I repaint a lexan body ? I don't like the color ( purple ) but the shell is in good shape , what would I use to strip the old paint off , and how should I prep it afterwards , that is if it is possible . Thanks.
-
do a search on here for cooper , m03 , and the like , you will find a ton of tuning info .
-
there is a forumla to measure the speed of you car . basically you take a distance , drive it , time it and then multiply the time , distance by ???? = speed .
what is it though ? i saw it on a rc car action site I think

Falcon Resto' Mod Begins

Still need :
Decals , wing .
Need to install servo and steering linkage as well as my esc and rx .
Here is a pic with a pair of front falcon shocks in the front and rear . I think i will go back to regular rear shocks since this setup creates too much 'rake' .
I still need to rebuild the shocks , but i just wanted to get a idea of what it is looking like.
