Are King Cabs really a sought after model?
iluvmud replied to iluvmud's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Yeah, I've been around for a while (off and on for 28yrs ) and I know how the game is played, I was really curious if these cars were really that sought after, I've seen cars in not as good a condition than mine sell for 300+ some in same condition 400+, with tires 400+ , then turn around and see one in really good shape sell for 200... hit or miss I guess with these. I do know that the parts themselves can go for a pretty penny as people are trying to build theirs vs buying a whole truck.... who knows. It's all just hypothetical as I'm indifferent to keep it or sell/trade it off..... but not for a Hornet (heehee), I started building this as when I got my Lunchbox, I had the option to get a King Cab but didn't..... and I kinda always wanted one, don't get me wrong though I never regretted getting the Lunchbox (my all time fav RC). -

Yup that's why I picked the ones it has now, closest to originals and if I find some great, if not oh well.... same with the body too. It might make more sense to break the car down and sell the parts off seperatly.... I mean a new chassis sells for about 160+..... then the tranny with full thorp gears??? Also a pretty penny as well as all the other parts too..... lol -

Yeah the only parts I haven't been able to score are the tires (last set I saw was 90$ US per pair..used.. and that ain't happening). And body and decals..... outside of that the rest is pretty much NOS minus the wheels which have yellowed a bit due to age. The body I have is a repro as are the decals. -
You made the right choice my friend!!! Excellent little turd indeed. I have an original I'm refinishing the body on and have the wheeliemog for driving duties..... such a blast but will agree with the lexan body suggestion... as for me when I had my 1st one I didn't want to glue the tires cause if you do all it'll do is wheelie... without gluing the tires eventually the bead will wear and it'll act like a ghetto slipper

Yes.................. -
I dunno.... to me the LB has a more hit factor than a Hornet, but thats just my opinion...... As for the swap thread I was wondering when you would make a thread that does something that's already available.......... teehee

Where's that thread @Terz1

Yeah, that's why I'm contemplating selling the King Cab.... I'd like to have them displayed in complete form..... not in pieces but some of the cars I have and will not sell I have a lot of money in them and will see only a fraction in return so to me I'll keep them. Mine all serve a purpose.......... to look nice on my shelf. I totally get what you mean but in my case the purpose of them all is to basically drive up and down my street.... I keep saying I'm going to buy land to build my own race track.... one day.
-
Guys, guys, guys....... I'll make this all better for you (especially you Mad Ax) just go ahead and send me your cars and I will totally get them out of your mind..... kinda like a Tamiya rescue shelter.... in all seriousness though, I have the same thoughts as mad as on never finishing a car and scooping up another to work on.... that's my M.O. Compared to you guys I have a tiny 16-17 car collection that if I want another car, I sell one or two to cover it..... for me there is no track near by so my real enjoyment is tinkering on them.... so out of the 16-17 cars I have only about 5 might be considered finished and I'm ok with that. but seriously.... send me your cars

OH MAN............ you shipping to the US?

WOW NICE!!! I used to love the boomerang and madcap!! The Boomerang was one of the 1st cars I wanted... something about the body made me dig it. Ive had a few opportunities to score one but for some reason I would pass....

Thanks, The wires are from the original MRC receiver That I was going to put back in (i have the whole radio system). and I also put in a vintage Kyosho Lemans 360T motor that was freshly rebuilt. -
Replaced about 24 ball bearings in the front wheels from most my collection as I commandeered them to build my GF01 Dump truck (I have no patience), and I swapped out the ratty servo case from my Futaba S9452 servo for a new one... GO ME!!

Hey guys, I was curious as to how sought after the Tamiya King Cab is if at all.... I currently have one and have put a lot into it, but for some reason I have this itch to sell/trade it. I haven't even painted the body or applied the decals yet!!! Not sure if I will do either but was curious if this is something people really go after like they do the Astute/Avante/Egress etc. In case youre curious of the condition, it's about 99% new parts plus the thorp ball diff and underdrive setup.

All this chatter and no pics.......
