  1. Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely looking for something a little more scale looking but you guys have the right idea.

Might try a 1/8 body on an associated SC10, since that's not a true 1/10 scale. I'll have to see what the wheelbases work out to.

This is somewhat off topic but I've also been considering using the HPI Cup Racer as an alternate chassis for a 1/12 Porsche 959 body.

  2. Are there any bodies that are available that are full fairing on top of a buggy or truggy chassis.

I want to get a DB01 platform chassis but I'd like to cover it with a full fearing body to make it look more like a rally type car. Basically i want scale looks, but true off-road performance.

I have a tamiya TB01 chassis at the moment but there are definite limitations for off road use because of it's clearance.

  3. Hi Stefan,

    Thanks for the information.

Doesn't seem like there are any available at the moment but I will

check again.  I was looking for the new Carson Audi DTM body that

one of the other members on this board posted recently as well.

Seems like both bodies are either low stock or very popular as I can't

seem to be able to find either.

  4. I just bought 6 exotic car bodies(Enzo, Carrera GT, and 4 mclarens) and none of them fit on my TB EVO II.

The Enzo and Carrera are too low in the back. The McLarens are too low in the front. So basically I'm looking for a chassis that has low shock mounts front and back.

I know the TA-05 will suit the Enzo and GT but after looking at some pics I think the front towers are too high for my mclarens.

    Any chassis suggestions?

Which version are you looking for???? The Short Tail Gulf or ueno Clinic or the Long Tail Fina, Gulf, Lark? Let me know. My scanner is packed away and I have not moved my computer, but I could get to it soon...

    Sent you an email. Thanks.

  6. Does anyone have an unused sheet of Kyosho or HPI McLaren F1 GTR decals and window masks. If so would you be willing to do a high res scan of them for me so I can make some reproductions. I'd be happy to send you a set of my repros once i'm done in appreciation for your time and effort.

I'm not merely making a copy. I intend to improve the basic set a bit and clean up the detail with a few more elements. If you're interested please reply to this thread or send me a PM or email.

  7. I bought a TT-01 for my girlfriend and the ESC that comes with it(the TEU-101BK seems to have problems straight out of the box.

I turn on the power, the light flashes twice, pauses, and then starts beeping at a constant, excruciatingly annoying rate.

What it should do is flash once and stay blank until setup is done.

Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes? Help would be appreciated it. I don't know if Tamiya has tech support but I'll go ahead and assume it sucks so I'd like to request the help from this board. Thanks in advance.

  8. Just wondering . . . has anyone every tried converting the F201 F1 chassis into a touring car? I was staring at the F201 chassis earlier today thinking what a nice looking chassis it would make for a touring car. I know the wheelbase is a bit longer so it won't fit regular bodies without modification. Still it would be an interesting frankenstein project.

I don't have the F201 so I'll just ramble a bit but if you made a custom carbon fiber chassis to the correct wheelbase length and swaped out the shaft would it be possible? The width seems fine. Can the F201 accomodate regular wheels?

I would definately agree that the TB-01 is the best WRC type car from Tamiya. The problem most people have when they say "rally" is they mean "off road". Rally doesn't mean it can do what say a TNX can do. If you have a dirt covered road with light gravel, a TB-01 would be great. However, looking to go off big jumps, climb hills, etc would be a job for a truck. The reason for the TL-01RA was to give a car that could do something inbetween. However, it is nothing more than a unscale looking car. They added longer suspension and HUGE wheels and tires to acheive the clearance rather than working on the suspension. I think the TB-01 is the most fun you can get with a "rally" car.

I definitely agree with your definition of rally and I'g glad the TB-01 is still the best of this format. The thing I like about tamiya is the scale realism. If I want something grossly out of proportion there are plenty of other options.

the audi a4 dtm on tt01 which is sold here in germany seems to be the 2004 version and it's bodyshell is made by carson.

tamiya announced the audi a4 dtm 2005, so i don't think that it will be the same.

the bodyshells made by carson are not as nice and detailed as the tamiya bodies.

That's even better!!! The 2005 hands down my favorite DTM car ever.

  11. I've been wanting to get my hands on this german only release of this body but I've been hestitant because I live in the uS and don't speak a word of german. Anyways I was surfing on the net and stumbled on this page at Hobby Link Japan(HLJ) showing a Nov. release date.

I thought the A4 DTM was a german exclusive but it looks like it might get wide release if tamiya is also gonna sell it in japan. Anyone have additional information?

  12. I just bought two tamiya bodies, the Enzo and Carrera GT to put on my TB EVO II. To my dismay, I've discovered that the rear shock mounts/towers are too high to accommodate the bodies. This sucks.

Any ideas on how to correct the matter? The stock EVO towers seem unecessarily tall in the rear. I suppose I could order the front towers from somwhere but then I woundn't have any holes to mount the body posts. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, hopefully in carbon fiber without needing to be hacked with a dremel.

  13. I'm looking for suggestions on the best rally chassis within tamiya line? I don't have any of the newer chassis but I do have the TB-01. I was wondering if there was anything better. Two things in particular that are important to me: 1.)aftermarket part availablity(hopups) and 2.a well sealed chassis.

If you have custom solutions please post pictures. Thanks.

soulstice, I have two of the McLaren Short-tails and a number of longtails that are new and unpainted, but sorry I cannot let them go. The are EXTREMELY difficult to find, especially the short-tails. One short tail kit or decal set that I have not been able to find is the Harrod's livery. The seem to have all but disappeared from the face of the earth.

I need to update my showroom and might do so this weekend. I can take some pics of the E46, but the link that Tamiya Learner posted shows the body and decals that I have. I should post a pic of my short tail too (Gulf livery). BTW, I do have an extra Gulf short tail decal set if you are interested.

That generic PTG car is from a no name RC company. I thought it was pretty accurate and the kit was really cheap so I bought one. Carson still is the most accurate that I have seen.

Your long tail looks really good!!!

I totally understand. I've been looking on and off for mclarens for quite some time so I know how hard they are to come by, especially the shorttails. I see longtails pop up every so often but the shorttails are impossible to find. I was on hiatus from the hobby when they were readily available so I missed out but you've done very well fulfilling your collection. I wouldn't let them go either.

If your bodies are painted, please do post pics. Also where did you buy your Carson kit?

  15. Do you have pictures of the E46 that your speaking of? I saw one generic PTG body in your collection. It's hard to tell from the pics but are the proportions better then the HPI body?

I also couldn't help but notice that you have quite a few Kyosho Mclaren bodies. I've been hoping and praying a manufacturer would release the short tail again which is still hands down my favorite car body of all time. I'd love to get my hands on the kyosho or HPI shortails. I just found this today which seems to have an identity crisis in terms of the length but it still looks like a mclaren:

Here's a pic of my longtail:

I too wish they sold Carson stuff over here. Some of there stuff has great realism.

Let me know which route you go, I still need to chase some of those kits.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info. That's very helpful. I'm a big BMW fan and this is the best E46 M3 body I think to date. The molding looks as if Tamiya produced it but never used they're own branding on it. The HPI one is decent but the proportions are simply off.
