I was thinking that calling it GETTING STARTED may point newbs in the right direction. Some of the responses to repeat questions are slightly 'impatient' to say the least, and you can't blame newbs for not knowing where to look.
-
There are a lot of semi-repeat posts regarding brake fluid, gearing, how to microwave a cat etc. How about a locked forum; 'GETTING STARTED', where only chris/admin/the internet pixie can copy forums that contain enough info to be considered a definitive reference?

Hi Jon So, come on then, what was it - footage from the crimbo party?

removing paint from my Sand Scorcher body
TWINSET replied to simensays's topic in General discussions
Just read that lot, do I get a prize for the most uses of 'bucket'? Seeing as we're on stripping again, Super Strip from Phoenix works great for small parts, starts almost instantly or you can dunk http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/ie/index.htm Can't remember who told me about it, but cheers![] -
The cut off for discounts is usually 100+, but even then its only pennies. I spoke to one of the stores this guy supplies, and they charge £1.35 for 1 1150 (including V.A.T.)

Sent njmlondon some 620's for a 959, extract of email; Andy, I just thought I would let you know that the bearings you sent me are a perfect fit! Thanks again! Regards 620's are 87p each too!

You could stick a scorcher body on it, but you'd need to drill a couple of holes[] These are well nice; http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=5554&id=711 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=3140&id=378 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=2507&id=296

Ok, here's the full skinny on shields Metal shields have a tiny gap between races to reduce friction. Rubber shields are tight to form a better seal, but cause friction. Because of the high rpm nature of most applications, steel shields are recommended. Neither are 100% waterproof or dustproof, but the rubber seals have the edge. Both are the same price (1150 87p, 850 87p) Due to their size, 850s are only available steel shielded. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other?

id="quote">id="quote">Hi Sjoerd I got some 620's for njmlondon, but they're so tiny they were only shielded on one side - where are they used on the 959 - if it's internal, it may not matter.

1150 - 87p 850 - 87p Prices are for steel shielded, will get rubber shield prices and post tomorrow. The guy I spoke to said steel shields would be better as rubber seals cause friction where the seal fits tightly against the inner and outer race. If they're both available, I have no problem ordering as required, but you'll have to make your own decision as to the pluses for each. I've seen both rubber and steel shielded for Clods on ebay, but most of the 'kit' bearings I've bought before are usually steel. I assume rubber shields will eventually wear out, due to the fact that one part of the race stays still whilst the other rotates and the shield rests against both, but have no idea how long it'd take for them to become ineffective. I'll try and get any info tomorrow and post 'the definitive guide' then

Just got that on a vernier. How many are on a SRB, I'll get a price for SRB sets. Price for 1150's are 87p each. Bibbo, did you get my mail?

Hi guys I'm a buyer for an engineering company, if anyone wants bearings for cars, let me know. I balled my entire clod for £13 (dunno how this fairs with other prices) If you want anything, drop me a line, all bearings supplied with zero mark-up, plus postage at cost. I'll need all three dimensions; thru hole, outside diameter and thickness/length. Stick to inches for inches and mm for mm, do not convert. I can get rubber or steel shielded if they're available. Email me if you got a list.

All done and dusted, many thanks to bigu2fan and jhellman for trades.
