Go the biggest you can fit. A brushless motor has a lot more torque than brushed, the FDR of 8.33 (I think thats the VQS with w2T pinion) is probably suited to 8.5 - 10.5T motors. Wind the timing up on the can too. Run it for a minute, check its not too hot, then 2 mins, check again. It shoukd be fine though as 8.33 is undergeared for a 13.5T motor.
What sized wheels does it have? I'm assuming the smaller Tamiya ones, not the standard modern 2.2"? That lowers the gearing even more
Why that's backwards you never start tuning with the largest pinion you always start with a smaller one watch the motor and esc temps and go up in pinion size to find the sweet spot?

how low you thinking? and which motor you got in yours?
I tried a 21T motor with a 18T pinion gear. so a 13.5T is 3500KV X your battery lipo 7.4v = 25,900 RPM So I would start out with a low pinion gear and work your way up also use steel ones those stock tamiya ones melt away like butter Robinson racing makes .06 mod steel ones for the tamiyas.

Hi I would say use a lot smaller one with the higher RPM 13.5T motor.

@shenlonco Dremel? Carving ball bits?
Were you quoting someone else? What are you talking about?
Hi If you watched my video you would know what I am talking about I show how I painted the body.

@shenlonco I like it. I have to be honest the wheels reminded me of a PokeBall at first so had to set that image aside and take another look at the entire car. It's a cool white/orange camo pattern to me. I dig it.
I like that you stuck to few main colors to keep the theme. I usually scheme my cars with max 3 main colors and one wild card (includes decals and any accessory on the car like NOS bottles or jerry can) not including black white and any metal or gray scale colors.
This is mainly the reason why I don't use anodized blue parts as it clashes with the scheme of the car usually; so unless it is completely hidden under the body I end up painting it silver or matte black or something less obvious. Less is more in this aspect.
Good job.
Thanks, it's something anyone I feel can do with a dremel and those round carving ball bits. The orange did start flaking off I knew it would because I used normal krylon paint.

Not crazy about the wheels, but I like what you did with the body. Nice VQS!
Thanks, the wheels look neat in slow motion though.

It looks good at other points in the video, i.e. 16.23. With some black Egress wheels, it would look very nice indeed I think.
For close up shots, like the keyframe, you should trim all the flashing from the decals. Use a scalpel to (carefully) trace round them.
Hi Thanks, I made the wheels like that to match the white and orange in the Dremel detail work. I used to go crazy going close like that with the decals when I was younger I don't go to crazy anymore plus I run them a lot and it just gets beat down.

Awesome!!! I'm very happy for you Steve, and your reaction when opening the box brought the biggest smile to my face. If I were filthy rich, being an "RC Elf" would be a priority.
Thanks so much, this RC Elf is super amazing I don't know how he does it but he's super nice for doing this for guy's in the hobby!

Nice new models I sure hope you don't need to disassembly all that stuff and take out two screws like the 4wd version because that's crazy and I think they could have did better on the design to get the battery in and out.

That's exactly how I use my GH, on a local baseball field that isn't used often. Anywhere else and the tires/suspension flat out don't work. In grass the suspension is too bouncy, and on the road the rear tires provide zero grip. Great fun on loose dirt though. I ended up putting the stock 380 motor back in mine since it was nearly uncontrollable with the 540 and stock tires. The stock paddles look great, but are pretty poor performers.
Yes they are great in the ball fields, You should try the kyosho scorpion adaptors I has ampro engineering make that lets you use the scorpions rear wheels and soft tires on the hopper chassis buggies they make them run much better and smoother a bit because the tires are soft with foams in them... check out my other videos that I show the part and run them.

That seems like a perfect Spot for the Grasshopper.
I like to drive mine on a flad Road with a 1cm layer of Sand. thats the mos perfect surface for my Hopper.
On my Gardentrack (very bumpy grass) it doesn`t make any fun because it is to "hoppy", but on a flat Sandy Ground i love the Grasshopper and its characteristics.Yeah the ball fields are perfect for all the hopper style buggies they run awesome in them!
