The market for MSD courses here in Oz is in the doldrums, local training institutes are just about begging for ppl to join up. Fees are being discounted to levels unimaginable! Not many takers still, as the jobs have all vapourised.

    id="quote">id="quote">

You see that just cracks me up. There was a glut in the market in around here about 1 year ago. It used to be if you spell JAVA or C++ you where hired. Its amazing to see how things would in cycles.

Kinda like some of these Tamiya cars. Who would have thought in 1981 that the SS or BB would fetching so much coin??

  3. One of posts that deal with excuses we tell our spouses got me to thinking about a discussion that I had with my wife about the time my MU came in the mail.

She claimed that I could put an order in or bid for anything that I want, within reason, on Ebay upon completion of my MCSD certification. Man talk about incentive!!! I have my first one on Dec 13th. I don't that I will do that great on it since I don't deal with it day in and day out. In fact, I hardly use Microsoft development tools, just SAP. Any follow Tamiya enthusiasts here with an MCSD?

    Just checkin...[:D]

I like you way of thinking.[:P] Keeping everyone happy while getting what you want out of the deal.[^] What a balancing act we must contend with to fulfill our hobby...

  5. Here's where acetone works. If you are restoring a hard-shell body and the body road rash or any imperfections, you body filler, then you acetone. Acetone as leveling agent on the body filler. Its kind of like sanding without the sanding. If you have concerns with acetone, you can use denatured alcohol and get the same results.

  6. I am considering upgrading the motor in my Blitzer Beetle from the RS540 to something with a little more power. I am not concerned with racing or anything, I am just curious as to what I can put in this car and still not have to worry about destroying my transmission. Oh, buy the way, I am Sunday driver when it comes to driving these things and tend not go from a dead stop to an abrupt start.[}:)] I will be using my trusty Novak Explorer II.

    Just curious.

  7. Hello sjoerd:

I truly respect your opinion and see where you are coming from. I am guilty of doing this but to a point, actually for several reasons: Mainly to practice and develope my skills as a modeler and eventually to offset the cost of a car that I really want. I am still holding out for NIB Tamiya Holiday Buggy. I may treat myself to one on my Birthday, which is June 2nd. (hint hint)[:D] I purchased a Pajero on Ebay last January and sold it restored in September. I did the same thing with the Falcon.[xx(] Although that was not restored. I just lost interest in it.

I make no bones about it when it came time to selling my cars. I've sold these cars not necessarily to make money, if anything I lose money.[:(] But to offset the costs and gain experience in restoring these wonderful machines. [;)]

    Respectfully,

To those who are in it for the money - please get out. I know it's a bit irrelevant to this discussion but keeps annoying me, and mentioning 'over-restoring' reminded it again... [:(] People who do this to try and make money are in the wrong place. You'll be better of investing in houses or the stock-market. This is a world in which only people which great enthusiasm for RC-CARS should be, not with great enthusiasm for MONEY. [:(!] I'm sorry but I can't understand what you are doing here if all you see is cash & cheques. I simply hate people who buy cars at a flea-market and sell then on Ebay to fill their pockets. It makes me feel gutted and very pi$$ed off everytime I see something that makes me remind this again... [v] [B)]

You might be surprised hearing this from a 16-year old, but I will never hold back because of my age! [^] This is my opinion and I am holding onto it... [:D]

  8. IMHO, I think that a car of the month would sour this web-site. Chris has done a fantastic job displaying the showcases once they come on site and depending upon volume of reviews and showroom updates, I think this site is alot more dynamic than one that would have the same picture of a R/C vehicle for an entire month.

  9. How about some friendly/constructive feedback for some of my reviews. Are they putting you to sleep?[|)] Informative?[^] Too much?[V] Just Right?[;)] Not enough?[xx(] When I write my reviews, I try to incorporate some of the problems, observations and nuiances about these cars for people who are considering either purchasing or building one Let me know what you think.[:P]

    thank you.

  10. LOL, thats pretty good. A Tamiya toothbrush.[:D] I've heard everything now. I remember seeing a web-site where someone had a pencil box. Man, I could see it now, bringing that thing to school back in the 5th grade. I'd be drooling all over it.[:P]

I have Tamiya Toothbrush. well sort of. We usually buy our toothbrushes in a pack of Ten from costco. I can never seem to remember which one is mine so I took a Tamiya sticker from a cut up sheet and put it on the toothbrush. Wallah! no more using my wife or sons toothbrush.

  11. Alclad is wonderful stuff. Many aircraft modelers us this century series fighters... Great stuff. SNJ metal and bare metal foil works wonders too. Just as an example on the Alclad.

  12. I think boils down to simple Economics. The shop owners who have the high prices are looking for people who are seasonal or new to the hobby. For instance, there are several hobbyshops that are within large shopping malls that attract all kinds of people. The prices are outrageous.

Anyone who has been in the hobby for any amount of time is resourcefull enough to go where the deals are. The gentleman who owns the hobbyshop that I frequent doesn't even carry Tamiya R/C. He said that he can sell them and no one wants to buy them. He about fell off his rocker, when I ordered my Blitzer Beetle from him. There are somethings that I will go to him for and others not. I'll buy all of my kits and parts on Ebay and from other folks. Radios, batteries, and paint or anything else, I'll purchase from him.

Anyway the point is this a world of economics and you have to ask yourself this question. Are you going to pay more for the convenience of the LHS or are you going to find the best deal overseas and elsewhere?

    Anyway just my $.02 worth.

What'll happen is that all the local stores will be put out of business, and we will only be able to buy from one or two sources, who will then of course raise their prices!

I hope it never comes to that, I would miss the chat from the guys at the local stores, that's one of the reasons I go in there, and I always end up spending some money !!!
