theres a guy oldfrogshot on these forums that makes really good dog bone conversion kits for the frogs and beetles. I just bought some from him. PM oldfrogshot and he should get back with you. Its going to cost you about 60 bucks to get a set but there worth it. Much better then the originals.

Maybe you guys can help me out. Im running an old Traid 9 turn motor in my beetle. Its not too bad speed wise but its a pretty old motor. It has terrible run times. Runs the battery pack out in about 4 minutes maybe less. Do these newer electric motors have better run times? Guy at the LHS said the new motors are much faster then the old ones. I want a fast motor with decent run times. Im thinking a new 11 turn maybe. If you guys could steer me to a good modified motor id apprecaite it.

finally got it running. I got Oldfrogshots dog bone conversion kit which is working really nice. I was having some glitching problems but it turned out to be the capacitors. I put the right ones on and no glicthing. I put an HPI TF4 am radio that was ripped out of a savage. I liked the radio in my savage so i decided to get another one. I paid 28 bucks for it. I put an old 9 Turn Triad motor in the beetle. I tell you this little thing will fly now. The battery only lasts about 3 or 4 minutes. Wish it lasted longer.
Just waiting on my parts lot i ordered so i can fix my broken rear suspension arm. I tell you that stock plastic body sure does make some noise going down the street. LOL. You can hear it jiggling.
Nice running little piece of history. Not bad for a 20 year old piece of plastic.

I won the auction on ebay. Now i have a total of 6 rear suspension arms. Huge lot of extra parts. This should be enough to last a long while.
-
I found a bunch of them on Ebay but im going to wait for the frog re re if i dont win this.
-
I have a part that broke on me while working on the beetle. Its where the rear shock meets the rear arm. Its a C Parts package. Frog is the same thing.
Anybody know where i can get a set? I checked ebay with no luck.

I fixed the image in photoshop. Its nearly undetectable that it was modified. Should look good in a print. No bump now. I can email it to whoever wants it.
email me stanonbass@cfl.rr.com
Its high quality so i couldnt upload it to putfile. If anyone wants to host this let me know.

Awesome! If you guys get some monster beetle decals scanned please let me know.
And yes Testors makes decal paper. only problem is printing white. Regular printers dont recognize white as a color. Because paper is white it just assumes your printing on that.
Im wanting to get a new style vw body and outfit it with original decals.

When i look at them in photoshop there the right size. But when i print them there too small. There really high resolution. Im thinking if i get the right dimensions and then bring the resolution down they will still be alright. I emailed the guy that scanned them. Maybe he will get back to me.

I found a site with decal pictures on it.
Only one problem is there the wrong size and print really small. Anybody know the excact mesurements on the decal sheets? If someone has a decal sheet please measure it and post. I will resise them in Photoshop for printing on testors decal paper.

oldfrogshot aka "don" is hooking me up with a set of heavy duty joint shafts and dog bones, and hex adapters for new wheels. Im stoked to receive these.
Thanks Don!!

A guy used to a race a modded fox at my local track back in the 80s. He smoked my RC10. RC10 was very heavy stock with the brass colored tub chassis. Graphite tubs made it much faster though.

They had a ton of character and werent that expensive. Great way to get into the hobby when you were young and didnt have alot to spend. I moved on the associated and TRC stuff but still enjoyed the tamiyas.
Savage will definatly be a collectors item. Truck is a legend. I own one and its my favorite rc. Like it more then my R40 Street car.

I hope i can find some decent dog bones. There pretty steep on ebay. The only part that really has me worried about the car.
Im wondering if i can fit the HPI VW body on it. IM wanting to put a new touch too it. Get some decals and paint it red with a current model body.

Well from a collectors standpoint i can see why the re releases are not wanted. But think of the positives.
1.Get your childhood car again cheap.
2.Parts can now be bought without breaking your wallet.
3.Parts are readily available for these models.
4.Possible aftermarket support. Hopping up a hornet beyond what it could ever have done back in its hay day. (Seen a modified motor in a hornet on rc universe. Very fast) could do this with any old car i supposed but stripping a gear in a car with no part support is not good. Now no worries. Just order it.

5.Lets everybody have the fun of owning a classic. (This could be a positive or negative)
6. Can actually have FUN with the car since if it gets trashed you can just buy another or replace parts. Whats the fun of a car if your afraid to drive it? Not the OMG i broke a part now im going to have to spend tons of money to fix it and have to search for rare parts. Fun for some but stressful for others. Now we can take them out and have fun with them.

I think its really cool there re releasing these cars. Im definatly not opposed to it. I loved my frog back in the day. Wish i still had it. With some aftermarket support of these releases maybe we could see some brushless powered frogs etc? Id love to see and old style car being competitive on the track.
Id like to see these cars re released
Monster Beetle
Blackfoot
Supershot
Falcon
Fox
I remember this guy having a tricked out fox at the race track back in the 80s. This thing was decked out with mods. He used to win every time. He beat RC10s with ease. Matter of fact he beat my RC10.

If i cant find upgraded dog bones for my beetle im going to find a machinist to make them. Ive seen this done before on frogs, old yokomos etc. Never wear out or break again. Just gotta find some one with the skills to make them.

Was fishing thru my parents attic and found my old monster beetle in good shape. Little dusty but no damage.
Im in the process of reviving this old beast to use. I basically want to make it fast and fairly reliable. Ive ordered a new radio. Going with a HPI TF-4 radio like in my savage. Not a bad radio and got it for 28 bucks. I have a Tekin Speed control. I also bought a full set of ball bearings for it.
Ive also seen some spare parts on tower hobbies website. Which is good news. However what im really wanting to do is upgrade the transmission in it. Mainly the half shafts. I want the pin style like the ones in my Savage. I know companys like Thorp made these back in the day. If any one can point me to a place to upgrade the rear end in please give links.
I want to breathe life into and old friend. This beetle won alot of races for me back in the 80s. Does anyone have any info on the frog re release as far as what type of drive train it will use? Im wondering if they will upgrade it from the un reliable half shafts?
Heres some pics
