  1. LOL Netsmith. Fortunately, I had already got the firework/toy car experiments out of the way before I got my first r/c. I could perhaps have mentioned the time I got my Mardave Mini run over by a double decker bus... (it was interference, I tell you!) I never really regretted that though, 'cause it was pretty funny. Believe it or not, the car survived reletively intact. A new body and a hammer to straighten out the bumper brackets and it was fine. Except for the RX, which came out pretty two dimensional. It was one I had borrowed off my brother too (oops). He saw the funny side eventually. Gary
  2. Oh, maybe it was 0.6 mod, It's been a long time, I can't quite remember. I'm not entirely convinced that's right though, so make sure to check everything meshes nicely before you run the motor. If you can get hold of a new counter gear, it's probably worth swapping. They take a lot of abuse, and if your pinion was damaged, the chances are the counter gear has suffered too. Gary.
  3. Just another thought.... I wonder how many Roughriders, Superchamps and Rangers have given up their lives to become Sand Scorchers. More than a few I'd say. Gary
  4. I completely agree. Award yourself a few more stars Chris.
  5. The MK1 and Mk2 Escorts would have been really great. I'd love a '73 Porsche Carrera RS too.
  6. My collection hasn't really started yet, funds are pretty limited, But I think I'm going to try and stay away from the buggies. Instead, I'll just try and get a selection other cars from through the ages. I'd love some Porsches, a Cross county, a Monster truck or two, I'd love a BRAT, and a few saloons. Obviously I'd love a 3-speed or a Scorcher, but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon. The one buggy I wouldn't pass up would be a Wild One. Always loved those. So, no real theme there I guess. Just cars I like. Gary
  7. I haven't had that many cars, so no real horror stories. I do regret how much abuse my Lunchbox got though. I's quite sad now. The body has long since been smashed and discarded. To make matters worse, I swapped the wheels and tyres with someone for a set of Blackfoot ones. What was I thinking! I thought it looked better at the time. I did have gret fun wrecking it though. Gary.
  8. The thing I like about the Sand Scorcher is the way it's construction parallels the real thing. I guess partly because both the r/c's and the real cars were simpler back then. Although its was meant to be a good performer at the time, the design was obviously still inspired by the real cars. The front suspension assembly looks and works a lot like a real Beetle. The rear suspension has the same torsion bar design, and the 'engine' is hung out the back driving the rear wheels. I think most fans of the real VW Beetle would recognise the similarities in design, and everybody loves the scale appearance. So, you get lots of people who couldn't care less about a Superchamp going out and buying Scorchers. The laws of supply and demand kick in and suddenly, Scorchers are worth ££££. Which is bad news for me, 'cos I haven't got one :-( Gary.
  9. Hi, My brother used to race one of those. If I remember rightly, you can't change the spur gear, but you can use different pinions. You just need to use the right holes on the motor mount, they're clearly marked. It'll take a 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 tooth pinion. I think the gears are 32dp so any make of 32dp pinion should be fine. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Mardave V12 cars use the same pitch gears, and they use pinions from 12-18 teeth. Any place that sells Mardave should be able to sort you out. Hope that helps. Gary.
