  1. I would throw my vote at teh Baja King as a great entry car. It's simple, pretty tough and can be converted to a more 'road-car' vehicle if your son leans that way.

The Baja is not a speed demon, but it is a neutral handler and good starting point with a few hop-ups well within reach of a sdmall budget - and the hop-ups do make a significant difference which helps the learning process.

  2. Hi everyone,

just a reminder that ausmicro.com is rapidly approching it's 2nd birthday and is holding it's position at the tiop of the heap for Micro and Mini Scale R/C.

We've done some minor changes to layout and design as well as moved to a shiny new server.

All this means the best 'small' R/C site just got bigger!

So if it's been a while since you've been to www.ausmicro.com you should pop over and take a new look.

  3. HK to Australia from Stallamodels (airmail).... 7days from ebay win to Door.

HK to Australia from RCModelHK (airmail).... 21days but it got checked for quarantine

HK to Australia from Toyeast/Liksang (EMS)... 2 days!

HK to Australia from Toyeast (EMS)... 7 days ;)

JPY to AU from HBWorld 4 days (EMS)

JPY to AU HBWorld 6days (airmail)

Yeah I used to import goodies fr sale ;)

The moral is - things can be vastly different even byt he same shipping method.

  4. mmmm OK priced up the bits and pieces.... At least AU$100 to make the conversion driveable. (Wheels/Tyres/Pinion/Adjustable Mount)

Plus about another AU$60 to get a nice body onto it.

I'm starting to think saving up some ore and just blowing the AU$320 on a Wild Dagger is a better investment?

  5. *nods* understood. I think I better do some looking and pointing and grunting the ine LHS...

WW2 wheels may just be the ticket them... They don't look that much bigger. but should be fun for some beach/soft sandy running. Found the standard wheels cut in a bit much and stuff..

  6. Just wondering if anyone has whacked a set of monster truck style/size wheels and tyres onto a Baja Champ/Baja King with any success?

How about the wheels from a Wild Willy 2000?

Any points where I can see what hex drive monster truck style wheels are out there?

  7. Answering my own posts again...

I ended up picking up 20 'Viton' O-rings from a local bearing shop. Viton is not affected by oils etc which some generial rubbers are.

They're a tighter fit than the Tamiya red ones but seem to work fine. and once again I have 4 working socks on the TA-03 - and WOW all with the same valving!

Next replacing the motor mount screws! And some new connectors for the motor.

*laughs8 Pricey day for the hobby.

My other half just blew AU$188 on ESC, Paint, bearings and battery for her Baja Champ....

  8. The tyres are about AU$20 per pair here - So I doubt you'd see see change from US$20 to get them over to you on a slow boat for one pair.

Ofcourse there's ways and means (bulk/group buy?)...

  9. The rear tyres can be ordered easy here in Australia.... Can post up some prices for you - happy to act as go between if you're desperate ;)

I 'solved' the bottoming out with the CVAs and some springs I had laying around. It's not perfect but much much better.

  10. Just bought another Baja Champ off Ebay.... My partner has wanted one since I got mine so we could race.... Anyway - Stellamodels had them up for US$60 so I snapped one up AU$139 landed att he door.... Not bad at all ;)

  11. The only thing I'm gonna say is I'm in awe of your battery collection ;) My 3 battry line up just can't match yours ;)

My TA-03 is yet to have a complete run un-marred by an expensive failure.... Hopefully once the shocks are done I'll get some good run times out of it ;)

    So far it's:

dropped screws (and hence half the gearbox)

Thrown out grub screws and lost belts

Shredded the pinion/front gearbox (it's an 03F running Kyosho 16Turn)

Had really really bad handling (That pair of shocks with loose E clips)

Plus a few others stops along the way. I look forward to having it running properly one day - and will never ever buy a used hopped up car ever again. I swear this thing was made up of bent + busted parts from about 4 different TA-03s.......

  12. Thats what I figured (in terms of size) I'll probably just drive out out the LHS (which is in the next state) tomorrow and pick up some 'generics'. They do seem different to the good 'ol black ones.....

May stop and check out a bearing shop on the way though..

At least now I've sussed out what the car drove funny. Two of the shocks had had the E clips come of... no damping there ;)

  13. Is there any reason why the O-rings used on the TA-03 shocks are red? I presume they're not the standard black variety due to being a low friction silicone based item?

Anyway of 'reviving' them? Or am I best off ordering/obtaining another set of new ones?

I ask this as I just got the rest of my shock parts and omitted to order these things and will have to pay silly LHS prices, or order and pay like shippign again ;)

But if there's a 'spec' out there then perhaps a local bearing shp can supply them mucho cheaper?
