  1. The best advice I could give is to buy the recent 'Racer 2007 Buyers Guide' from http://www.rcracer.com/ as it lists whats new, popular and a good buy. I'd say if you can use a steering wheel type radio to go Spektrum as you'll avoid the woes of interference [] Yep you need a LiPo compatible charger for LiPo, the Pro Peak Prodigy 2 (see my showroom) is a good all round charger and can charge Ni-Cd, Ni-Mh or Lipo cells so unless you want two chargers or to spend lots on a high end charger is a good buy. Lipo cells are great but expensive and not BRCA legal if you ever intend to race at your local club. They are easy to charge but you must follow the safety advice supplied with them to the letter as if abused a Lipo cell can be very dangerous. Hope that helps anyway []
  2. Anyone any experience of LRP/Nosram VTEC 3700 cells ? Would they give better performance than Sanyo 3600HV cells that I use at the moment? Size is an issue with my chassis due to my car being a fairly tricked up version of an older mid-range chassis the lower SSG deck isn't cut for inline cells so I'm stuck with having to run smaller diameter cells hence no to GP/IB this time round.
  3. A 45028 Tamiya TEU-302BK ESC would do the job nicely or if you've got a few quid to spend a 45031 Tamiya Volac MS ESC would future proof against any motor upgrades [] Hitec's EZX-R Electronic Speed Controller HT-EZXR Car (23+ Turn) is also similar to the Tamiya TEU-302BK but is a bit cheaper, used one myself with both Type-R and Type-T motors on a TA05 tourer.
  4. Maplin do 10m roles of 7/0.2 equipment wire in a range of colours including black which I use myself as receiver wire. Cheap too [] If you want geniue Futaba or KO wire www.microtechracing.com sell it []
  5. Tamiya CVA oil filled shocks really are good and worth the bit extra [] I used to own a Grasshopper and oil filled shocks transformed it, same with my Tamtech-Gear Frog, sketchy to awesome with just a change of the shocks []
  6. I agree amazing looking buggy, I'd be tempted to keep it as is too as it looks pretty much perfect []
  7. Probably geared too low if it way hot. I'd try changing the gearing for a little less top speed so the motor can spin easier and run a little cooler. 540s do get hot when runn off-road as they aren't that well vented, but I'd change the gearing first.
  8. The brushes being tinted blue/purple is an indication of if the motor is getting too hot and the comm being red or heavly coated in carbon. You'd probably kill the comm before the magnets, happened to a guy at my local club on Sunday, his motor got way too hot and started smoking, ended-up that the glue holding the wire onto the comm had melted ! eak !!!!!!!
  9. I tried to get my local indoor club to run a vintage class a few months back but sadly only a few peeps seemed to be interested [^o)] Quote of my posts on the clubs web site : Had a crazy great idea for a fun class after reading something in Racer magazine How about a vintage buggy/tourer/truck/etc class, say anything older than 1994 (except for re-releases). Would be a super cheap class to race in and good for spectators  Rules could be no class limits except for: scale - 1/10th and 1/12th cells - 6-cell-7.2v shot-gun style stick pack motors - 27-turn or 540 silver can stock tyres - no foams/additives/warmers --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lol, was thinking more about it today. To make the class fair and fun so peeps don't turn up with a kitted out factory spec Yokomo YZ-10 (top car in it's day) you could have a point system say :- Qualifying: Still 30 points for TQ, 29 for 2nd etc.... Finals: Still 30 points for first, 29 for 2nd etc.... ...but with the added twist of +1 point for running 2WD, +1 point for running a 540 silver can motor rather than a 27T stock, +2 points for running a 380 motor, +1 point for friction shocks, +1 point for retro hi-profile tyres etc.... ....so a Standard £50 Grasshopper would get +5 points for just finishing to make things fair and equal ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10. Doh ! Doh ! DOH ! For a few seconds I almost thought Tamiya had brought back a legend []
  11. Great new site ! Always liked the look of the old one but the new site looks great as well. Only thing missing which I always found handy was the PDF Tamiya parts list []
  12. I've got a friend running one of those kits on his F-350 Hi-Lift using a HiTec HIS-03MK Receiver (3-channel) and HiTec servo.
  13. Just added some pics to my showroom, looks like something out of Buck Rogers or Battle Star Galactica (80's version), hehe !!! http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...81&id=12791http://www.tamiyaclub.com/pictureframe.asp?t=n&id=img12791_24012007222839_1.jpg'>
  14. I agree great, even fantastic topic [] In fact it got the old grey matter whiring and I remembered about an old Radio Shack Z-707 Battle Iron Claw tank I've had in storage since I moved house with my folks in 1994. Had a look this morning and the tank is still in it's box at the bottom of a tea chest from when we moved. It seems to be in excelent condition (must be over 20+ years I've owned it), except for the tank tracks which have gone from rubbery to solid and crumbly brittle plastic. I'll add some pics to my showroom tonight as I've never seen another and to be honest forgot I had it [:$]. Will do a full restore too but I'm not too sure how I'll mould some new rubber tracks [:^)]
  15. I have that too, not really all that important as I could always change my showroom name back, but would be nice to have them both matching [] Stupid me, lol []
