  1. Hi, I'm interested in trying out the Align motors in my mini, as I'm in Taiwan and those motors are really cheap here. You mention you feel the speed is comparable to a good 27t stock motor. I don't know anything about stock motors so I'm wondering how a 27t stock motor would compare to say a sport tuned motor, or the popular superstock RZ (I think that's right) line of motors. Thanks, Rob
  2. Hey all, Just got a Rover Mini Cooper Racing, and would like some advice on the painting. Is the best way to go to mask the roof and grill, then paint the blue (going with box art, no black fenders), then the silver grill and white roof? Thanks, Rob
  3. Yes, the diff is compatible, but I believe you need to change the drive shaft to the celica one? Rob
  4. Hey guys, I have the same problem with my Blitzer Beetle bottoming out as well. I figured that thicker oil might be the way to go. I've got 60 or 80 I think. So that keep them from bottoming out on the bigger jumps? Does this then adversely affect the the dampening action of riding over bumpy terrain? Rob
  5. Hi, Are you building a Celica, or putting the gear into the 959? I'm interested in adding it to the 959, but am not sure I know all of the parts that are required. Are you going to build it with the 41 or 40 t gear - the off road or onroad set? Rob
  6. Thanks, I will. I sent him a link to a bearing set on ebay. Best to start our right. I'm going to be building it for him, so that's a bonus for me. Looking forward to having a crack at my first Tamiya kit since my original Frog. I'll be painting it too. I don't really think the red scheme looks very good, but I saw one in a showroom in a nice shade of blue. Anybody have any suggestions or examples? I'll be running my Blitzer Beetle with him and his Fire Dragon. I hope that neither vehicles really outclasses the other in terms of handling, etc... I just read in another thread that the Hotshot has pretty poor turning. Anybody have experience with the Thundershot line of cars? Rob
  7. Hey all, I think that 1/10 scale road cars are now running brushless and lipo, but would it be possible with a Kyosho superten sized car? How difficult is it mount a brushless motor in nitro powered car? Thanks, Rob
  8. Guys/Girls, It looks like he's going to go with the Fire Dragon. I think the combination of the high ground clearance and sealed tub are appealing to him because of the bashing type action it's going to get. Rob
  9. Guys, I was in a shop today and I found the car, NIB. It's called a Traxxas TRX-4. The box has a picture of it wearing a Ferrari f40 shell and silver dish wheels. I did a search on the net and came up with nothing. The car is rtr in the box, except for the clear shell, which in this case is hatchback civic!! Rob
  10. Was just looking at the online manual for the frog. I don't know if there's a difference, but the drawing of the 16t for the frog looks different then the one in the 959 manual. The one for the 959 seems to have a longer "neck". Just an observation. I'll try to get to the LHS this week and see if it can be ordered. If the pitch and tooth count are the same then that's all that matters? ROb
  11. Hey thanks. I'll search for it and see what comes up. Rob
  12. Hey all, A friend and I were working on making a makeshift track and made a jump. The Blitzer Beetle jumps nicely and lands flat, but it slaps the ground pretty hard on the landings. The shocks are pretty soft, so I'm assuming things need to be stiffened up a bit. It has the stock shocks with the stock springs and I'm assuming the stock oil. What is the recommended solution to the bottoming out? Adding thicker shock oil? I've got a bottle of 60 or 80 weight I think. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Rob
  13. Thanks, I'll see if I can get that. Not having much luck on getting a current part # to order it though. Rob
  14. Hi, No kidding about the speed - that's the deal with scale speed across the board. 1/10 scale cars going 20-30 mph - that's up there in scale speed eh? I never saw much of the old monster truck action , but I seem to remember them sort of just rolling over those cars, not jumping right over them! Kids today. Rob
  15. Hi, Well, it's interesting to know that it's actually scale in performance I do like the old days when they were based on real trucks - I'm not really a big fan of the whole "shell" on vehicles style. Don't really like how NASCAR cars are not based on the car they're supposed to be either. Oh well, that's cost of performance. Rob
  16. Hey all, Is the 16 T pinion gear the 959 uses a pinion that's currently available or in use by other models? Thanks, Rob
  17. Hey all, My friend and I decided to getting digging today and make some jumps in the are where we run our cars. We usually try to set up a track and "race". So I was testing out the first jump with the Blitzer Beetle, and he gave it shot with an old Falcon he picked up. His front suspension mount broke off after his second run at, and since the falcon never turned too well he decided it's time to get a new car to run with me. He wants 4wd, and we run in a pretty bumpy area, certainly not a groomed track. There's even light grass growing in some of the areas of our "track". The Fire Dragon came to mind as it's just being released, and is very much like the Thundershot - a car which impressed me as a good choice for a basher. I was also thinking of the Dark Impact, as a current generation option. He wants a RTR car, but I said I'd build the kit for him. I can't think of any RTR 4wd electric choices, other than the "Great Vigor" Rhino that my other friend picked up. A nice car with a quick motor, but very low slung, being based on a touring car chassis. Do you guys think he will be well served by the Firedragon? Or is it a potential vintage headache waiting to happen for him with parts, durability, etc... Dark impact good for bashing with big jumps/ rough terrain? Thanks, Rob
  18. Hi, Just curious - so you mean that these Traxxas 2.0 tires would fit the Fox/WO type wheels? Thanks, Rob
  19. Ok, cool. So would just need a helmet/head to add the full driver to the Fire Dragon, unless there would be some sort of clearance issue with the body, which maybe would be why they attached the body to the roof. Rob
  20. So to put a full driver in the Fire Dragon, you'd need to get that cover, or could you attack a full driver figure onto the Fire Dragon cover? Wonder why they did that with the Fire Dragon Driver. Rob
  21. I don't much about Clods and have only seen one run in the promo video. I was surprised to see how the suspension action seemed to coming from the tires. Would fitting different softer shocks and springs change that? Again I don't know about Clods, but seems like there not much weight sitting above the shocks. Rob
  22. Thanks for the info. Yep it seems that modern tech is making it harder and harder to justify running the older hi performance stuff. Guess it's better to just leave the Technigold in the 959 where it's required. Only problem is that with the 959 I only get a couple of runs out of it before the gearbox starts chattering under hard acceleration, then it seems to mysteriously right itself after I take it apart and put it together, sigh. About the dustcover - I can't tell from pics, but is the driver body on the thundershot moulded into the clear plastic? Rob
  23. Ah yes, I forgot to ask about any offset issues - thanks for that. About the HPI 2.2 wheels -Could you explain what you mean by narrowing them? Are there any current tires that will fit the fox type wheels? Thanks, Rob
  24. Hey all, Used the search to find an old thread on this subject instead of starting a new one. My friend has a Falcon with Fox rear wheels and ty/ires. What would it take to make a readily available wheel and ty/ire combo fit? It is possible to just swap the hubs for a modern hex hub? Thanks, Rob
  25. I hear what you're saying about the videos making you want cars you never considered buying before. Take the Thundershot. I never would have given it a second look - after watching it in the video and seeing how it performs I'm dying for one. The videos even make those QD cars look appealing. Favorite? the 959 vid. It's what got me back in this whole scene in the first place. I love the videos where they go into detail about the chasis or the features that make that model unique or give it that "racer's edge". They're done with such conviction you actually start to believe everything they say. Rob
