  1. Yup. I'll be there. It's gonna be less stressful than the day I've just had racing in Newbury. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but a couple of times, I thought I'd rather be bashing. I've been recruiting new attendees, I'll invite them along. Elliott.
  2. I'm guessing that as the kit tyres are quite a hard compound comapared to other racey tyres the alternate compound is softer. No actual experience, just a guess. Elliott.
  3. I'd heard than on the Oople forum as well. I'd also noticed that they had sold out in certain places. DF-03/DI/Keen Hawk info and tips can be found here: http://tamiyaclub.com/CS/forums/thread/158898.aspx Elliott.
  4. [] We've been keeping it warm.
  5. I've got some 'mad skillz'. I've just swapped the worn metal gear on the slipper layshaft with the gear from kit layshaft. The gear and shaft are in two parts. I popped the gears off the shafts with a hammer and a punch and the gear sat on a vice. Then I put the newer gear back onto the slipper shaft again with a hammer. Minimal damage to the gear (it needed a bit of filing) and I think the shaft is still straight. A nice fit back in the gearbox, with almost zero lateral slop. I'm quite happy with my work. The gearbox sounds a lot better. Elliott.
  6. Sorry Allie I got the e-mail. But my innernet is playing silly ******s. I will at some point stop being a tight git and stump up the £15 for full membership. Elliott.
  7. I've been using a 25 tooth pinion and the black slipper clutch spur gear with my 19 turn spec motors. It's perfect, nice and punchy. I recently started using the kit 26 tooth pinion with the black gear because I fancied a little bit more speed. Elliott.
  8. Don't matter. I've got it. Elliott.
  9. How do I join Allie? Elliott.
  10. Incidentally, I'm almost certainly going to be in the woods this weekend. Hopefully tomorrow. Elliott.
  11. HAPPY CHRISTMAS READING BASHERS! Elliott.
  12. I've had a little interest so far. I'll take some photos in the next couple of weeks and get back to you and the other guy. The car was bought when it was released and has been built and run only once. In the intervening years the shocks have emptied and the plastic battery straps and pinion have vanished. The body wasn't cut out that well, but can be salvaged, it is unpainted. The tyres are fine and unglued. It has the box and instructions and complete decals and the inserted letter from Race Prep. Apart from the faults mentioned it's in pretty good shape. Elliott.
  13. I've got one built but never run, how much are they worth roughly with Box and Instructions? Elliott.
  14. I had my first race meeting at the CML Raceway today. In practice, I had a little crack with the DI. It handled really well. It was raining heavily most of the day and when I got out of shape on a few of the slippery jumps, I could correct myself well. When I took a corner badly. I could correct it. The Dark Impact flattered my driving. I might run it in the summer. (By the way, I haven't had any experience of contemporary 4WD cars, so I wouldn't have anything to compare it with, but I was pleased with it). Elliott. P.S. jr-rc has the Tamiya turnbuckles available for the DI. They look nicer than the 3 Racing versions, but they are twice the price.
  15. I believe they are sold separately. That doesn't look bad at all. In case you thought I was making all this up, I've just uploaded pics of my DI to photobucket. They should be available here: http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r303/ElliottHopkins/ The paint is Pactra's racing red, rushed and blotchy. Minor hop-ups include Tamiya DF-03 threaded shocks, DI slipper clutch, smaller than stock Tamiya dish wheels with Ballistic minispikes (welcome to England) and (essential) 3 Racing Ti screws. Modest upgrades in importamnt areas thus far. In terms of electorincs, LRP IPC V7.1 (still the best speedo ever made, I don't trust speedos I could hide under my small change), Hitec Gem receiver a perfect fit, KO metal gear servo and normally a Peak Dynasty 19T spec V2 dalek head. All good stuff. Elliott. P.S. Because I can't comment on anybody's showroom pics, I'll do it here. Nice FINISHED car Neo, what paint did you use?
  16. I notice on another forum 'Grahoo's' very stylish and well constructed DI is Tamiya Buggy King world champ. The car was actually driven by a friend of his. Congratulations to you both. If you're getting noise from your rear gearbox, check for excessive movement from the layshaft. I noticed this last night, it was caused in part to slop in the gearbox body. Both the main section and the top cover have now been replaced and it's quite a bit quieter. I think most of the noise is now from the slightly worn layshaft teeth. Tamiya should make a gearbox from stronger plastic. I'm currently waiting for Tamiya to release the turnbuckle set. Elliott. P.S. Nice looking chassis Neo (I can see it in your showroom). Are you going to give it a go at the CML Raceway?
  17. I'm not just a Model Car fan, I'm also a Transformers 'aficianado'. Apparently Takara/Tomy aren't allowed to put boxart of the robot form on Transformers boxes anymore because possibly it's not representative of the toy inside. Tamiya aren't going to make boxes for different regions, so they may have stopped (almost entirely) putting boxart on their boxes as well because of this law. Elliott.
  18. It's true what it says on the adverts in the cinema's. Thieves don't need a brain, just an opportunity. That's paraphrased of course. Imagine going back to the scene of the crime. WITH your Dad. He was obviously after some protection. Elliott.
  19. The gear on the lay shaft of my Tamiya slipper MAY be wearing out quite quickly. Of course it may be the dust from the summer, but the teeth aren't very smooth anymore. Elliott.
  20. A few times. []
  21. They work in my cars. The different, but same, specs are annoying. There isn't a lot of space for the motor.
  22. Trev, regarding what you were saying about old 0.5 module Astute pinions (53080, 53082 available on eBay) working with the Tamiya DI pinions, these: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti00...=LXEX40&P=K and others like it (Robinson make them in different sizes) should work because they work on my Madcap. They are the same pinions described differently. Elliott.
  23. Yup. I've replaced them and if it happens again. I'm going to try the 3Racing versions.
  24. Ah, a Radiocontrolzoner. I'm hoping to get those shock towers for Christmas. We have a big DI thread here which you should check out. Elliott. The DI fan.
  25. OK, this is quite nice: http://www.3racing.hk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=98 3 Racing graphite chassis conversion. Elliott.
