  1. Hi, can anyone tell me what the best sealant to use when rebuilding the gearbox and fitting engine/motor covers? Is it the clear silicone sealant found in hardware stores? Also what oil/grease is recomended for the gears? Thanks in advance.

  2. Thanks guys. Have actually bought a battery eliminator switch off ebay this morning as I thought this could be a solution. Sounds a bit confusing as I will have 2 on/off switches now. Will probably become clearer with the wiring when I plug it all in.

  3. Need advice guys. Am running my Ford Ranger completly stock at the moment i.e. original speed controller, vintage acoms mk 2 conroller, receiver etc.All has worked fine but the speed contoller is now just about to give. I have just ordered a TEU 101BK esc as I want to keep the Tamiya theme but what i need to know is do I need a new contoller and BEC receiver and retire the original unit or will a BEC receiver work with the mk2 acoms contoller?

    cheers

  4. Given up trying to fit the Sport-tuned motor as it won't go in the right-hand side of the gearbox! I guess the castings vary so much as it has been done before. Has anybody had this problem?

So I guess its the Johnson motor for now or I use a Mabuchi RS 540 SH out of a re-re Lunchbox   Is there a difference?

    Cheers

  5. Have tried to fit the Sport- Tuned Motor in the gearbox but it seems a very tight fit. Took the box apart as I am fitting bearings and it still won't go on to the lugs. Have removed the label but still very tight.Any ideas?

Have tried a Johnson 540 motor that I have and that fits fine. Tempted to use that but dont know what it is like compared to the original Machubi motor in the SRBs

    cheers

  6. Yes, you can buy the bullet connectors, even from Tamiya, but you still need to cut them if you use original rear motor cover or drill its holes larger, to pass them through.

    Cheers

Yeah I see what you mean. Didn't think about that! Also as the Sport- Tuned has red and black wires I assume the red goes to the red wire on the old msc?

  7. i think you could give it try with what you got. since an srb isnt suitable for serious racing and way too expensive for bashing around. a sport tuned is a mild modified motor (23 turns - i think ) the basic tamiya should be able to handle it.

The teu 101 bk can handle 23 turn and above from what i know.

    cheers birdy

Thanks Birdy and everyone for their comments. I agree that I dont need it for serious racing. To be honest the standard set up was good running with 3700m/ah hump batteries. Its a shame the motor got noisey. I guess too much sand and water isn't good!

Just for now I may leave the old msc in and fit the Sport- Tuned motor to get back running. Don't want to chop the bullet connectors off the motor so can you buy the female connectors to crimp on the other wires? Just ordered some bearings off ebay to fit whilst its in bits.

    cheers.

  8. Have been pondering for a while about modernising my Ford Ranger. It is a runner and it is completely standard even down to the radio gear and msc. A few questions...

    1) I think dirt/water has got into the motor as it has started to whine. Have a RS-540 Black Sport Tuned Motor which I believe will fit without any mods. Is this correct? Going to ball race the Gearbox as I have it in bits.

    2) Should I go the esc route? Have got a new Tamiya TEU 101BK from my shelf Lunchbox which isnt being used.I guess I need a new modern transmitter, receiver and steering servo. Is there a big advantage going this way or should I keep it original?

    Thanks guys.

  9. update the b's have withdrawn the offer!!! i am not very happy!!![:'(] [:'(] [:'(]

That sucks! I've just moved to South-West Scotland to be closer to my son (long story) and am trying to find work. Not much around. Great beaches and woodland though for my Ford Ranger!![H]

  10. The batteries are new so they should be ok. What could be wrong with the motor? Have thought about changing to a ESC. Have a new Tamiya one which came with my shelf Lunchbox. Could that be used? I believe the vintage receiver plugs are different so I assume I need a new modern handset/receiver etc.

  11. Just purchased 2 3700mAh hump batteries off ebay for my Ranger runner. Having charged one on Saturday using my Ansmann delta-peak charger I was amazed how quick the car was and how long it lasted.

Today though after a charge it seemed alot slower. The car is standard using vintage radio gear etc. I asume its to do with the charging of the battery. Any ideas anyone?
