If you have a look in my showroom you will see some pics of my Tamiya Twin Detonator based project.
It is about 80mm longer than the standard TD chassis to make room for two batteries.
The body and chassis are both aluminium, its a little heavy but the twin 14.4volt 550 motors more than make up for this!
The Tamiya running gear is holding up very well dispite the extra weight. It will have headlights brakelights aject/nd a horn (as soon as I get a 4 channel radio) and ths steering wheel is conected to a spare servo so it turns!
I'll have some pics or the interior in a few days.
Id really like your comments, expecially from anyone else who has done a similar project!

Does anyone know if there are stronger drive shafts available for the Twin Detonator?
The standard ones are made from two peices welded together and thry keep breaking.. The rest of the truck is holding up quite well considering I'm using two 550 motors and a 14.4 volt system!

Thanks for that, I'll have a look on ebay for them!

Can anyone help me, I want to know which wheels and tyres will fit my F-150 Truck (TA01/02 chassis) I'm looking for some around the same size as the original mud tarrain ones.

Hi,
My first one which was just a modified tamiya one with some thick wire soldered to the back to help carry the extra current, but it caught fire so I've now turned to plan B.
This a car electric window switch so only has single speed forward and reverse. (all 4 wheels spin on take off and leave tyre marks on the tarmac!) I've made a metal bracket to mount it to the servo. Its rated at 20 amps so should be ok for a while, I've had a couple of runs out of it so far
I've taken the advice of the other guy who replied to my question and gone back the a standard 540 motor, the car seems just as fast as before. I'll see how long the motor lasts!
I will post some pice of the car (That is if I can, do you have to be a full member to have a showroom?) as I've done quite a few other mods including an aluminium front bumper and 2nd battery holder and a steel chassis strenghtening plate. Now all I need is some tyres which done wear out so quickly!

Can anyone recommend a fairly cheep Motor which will run ok on 14.4 volts and preferably rebuildable, as I'm running my TA01 Escort on 2 batteries! I've made my own speed controller (2 speed forward and 1 reverse!) to handle the extra voltage and now I just need a decent motor!
The Car is Very Fast and standing up quite well but I expect to have to rebuild the gearboxes before too long!

Hi, thanks for your reply
Yes they are both old 1200mah batteries. The motor is some sort of 540 made by reedy, it does have easily replacable brushes! The speed controller is the atandard tamuya mechanical one.

I have just converted my TA01 escort to run on 14.4 volts.
Has anyone any idea how long the speed controller and motor will last running like this? - The car is now VERY VERY FAST!!!
Its already burn out the resister so I've just connected the 3 wires together so I still have reverse.
The twin racing packs last about 4 minutes, this is a little less than I used to get when running one just one battery.

I have uploaded some new pics of my TD/EMAXX based Project. Thanks to the people who have already left nice comments in my showroom!
Its almost finished now with just a few more jobs to do.
Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced heavy duty steering servo? I really need one! The truck now weights in at 6KG!
