Retro Racers At Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club
Jammer replied to Jammer's topic in Meetings & Events
Yes - today was a fantastic way to end the first Retro Racers season. Congratulations to TC Member Smitchos (Simon) who takes the Championship title with a score of 794 out of a possible 800 points. Simon's car of choice (a ReRe Hot Shot with HP suspension kit) performed brilliantly throughout the season and has set the bench mark as the car to beat. Thanks to everyone who participated over the summer - I've made some good friends as a result. As Richard said - Retro Racers will be back next spring - that gives you plenty of time to prepare your vintage buggies. Until then...we have the silver can powered Tamiya/RTR racing class to look forward to at Hinckley RCCC. There is a non-scoring meeting on Saturday the 19th September with the season starting in earnest on Saturday the 26th. Interest so far suggests there will be a good heat's worth, but we're always looking to increase numbers. If you've never raced before or prefer racing for fun - this is the perfect class for you. See you there.... James -
Tamiya Touring Car Class At Hinckley Rccc, Leics, Uk

Hi Mulsanne, Thanks for your feedback... You shouldn't be put off - anyone who would be prepared to tweak a silver can motor is soon going to get bored with the racing and move onto something bigger and better - I've seen this in Mardave V12 racing - which is and always will be grass-root racing. And once they have, everyone can get back to enjoying themselves. The silver can idea is more than just a way to level performance - it is also there to attract newcomers who will have most likely bought a car with a silver can motor. Another benefit of a silver can motor is that it requires little maintenance. It also makes economic sense as they are cheap to replace if you trash one. Today was the last meeting of the outdoor season at Hinckley RCCC - we had a cracking meeting running the vintage buggies, which run on silver can motors. There was no cheating or arguing - everyone just enjoyed themselves and went home with a smile on there face; happy to have spent the afternoon amongst friends. Everyone racing in this type of class realises that it's all about having a laugh. Cheers James -

Thank you for your comment - hopefully rc-martin has helped to clarify that the class allows you to run either a Tamiya touring car or a RTR type touring car from another RC manufacturer; for example, HPI's E10 touring RTR range. Shall I take your post as an expression of interest? -
Hi Guys, As well as being a TC member, I'm an active member at my local racing club - Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club (HRCCC). This summer I've had the pleasure of being involved in the introduction of vintage buggy racing to the club (a series called Retro Racers), which has been well supported by a number of TC members. The success of Retro Racers has been due to the emphasis on fun racing for all (whether you are an experienced racer or newcomer). HRCCC has been an excellent host - and everyone who raced has commented on the friendly atmosphere that welcomed them. HRCCC appreciate the support given to them over the summer by TC members and intend to introduce a new Tamiya/RTR touring car class when the racing moves indoors for the Autumn and Winter seasons. The club would be grateful for any input from TC members to help tailor the class rules. As an prinicple objective, the class is intended to attract newcomers to racing - so what we want are a few simple rules that will enable people to compete on a level playing field and on a budget. Current ideas are as follows: 1) Silver can motor limit This has worked extremely well in the vintage buggy class to help level differences in driving ability and chassis design - silver cans are also cheap, easy to maintain and usually supplied with the kit. Performance wise - we found the silver can powered buggies were only a few seconds a lap slower than many of the modern buggies running modified brushless motors 2) Any Tamiya touring car chassis (inc TRF in you really want to race one) or RTR kit (such as offered by HPI etc.) The thinking behind this is to encourage people to race what they have lying about in their loft or is available off the shelf at their local model shop. As suggested above, differences in chassis performance can be levelled to some degree if the components are standardised and kept at a sensible performance level. What do you think? Is this the type of racing you'd be interested in supporting? Please post any comments (positive or negative ) - we'd love to get your feedback and gauge the level of TC interest. For further details of racing at HRCCC, please visit: http://www.hinckleyrccc.co.uk/index.htm Alternatively you can send me a PM. Cheers James

Good to hear...nothing more frustrating than duff batteries. They'll be plenty of room for you and your new table - we've got the gazebo set-up down to a fine art now. Yes - once a few people showed interest, this thread has really taken off. My brother-in-law and Andy should be coming along too. Simon'll be there. Reckon we'll have at least a good heat's worth. Hi Folks, Just a quick reminder that Retro Racers will be at Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club (HRCCC) again this Saturday afternoon. Furthermore, I'm delighted to annouce the message that vintage buggy racing is fun and universal is now starting to spread to the 'die hard' competitive racers at the club. This week we'll be joined by another convert (a really great chap called Scott) who has just bought a Tamiya Brat. If it's your first time visiting HRCCC, here's a link to their website which contains directions (click on 'Club Info' tab): http://www.hinckleyrccc.co.uk/index.htm Racing is due to start at 12:45 with a 17:30 - 18:00 finish. We'll be there from about 12:00 onwards. BBQ, refreshments and RC spares shop are available. So come along and have a laugh - there's always room to pit with Eddystone, Smitchos and I in the Retro camp. Please feel free to add a reply, PM or e-mail any questions or contact us for a chat about Retro Racers - we're a friendly bunch. See you there... James -

Well reminded Richard - cheers. It'd be great if we could have enough people turning up on the 25th with big wheelers so we can hold a heat just for them. If you are interested in joining in the fun, please let us know who you are. Of course - they'll also be the regular Retro buggy class - you can run in both if you like. Another reminder - the HRCCC club car (a Mardave Cobra) is available to use FoC if anyone fancied a go at racing, but didn't want to run their own car. I you're interested, just let me know and I'll get the car booked for you. Please note the usual race fee still applies. Any questions - Richard or I will be happy to answer them for you. Cheers James -

Hi Kriss, Following on from Richard's post - the Club is excellent and will make you feel very welcome. Let me know if you need any help with the directions or information about the meeting. If you like I can also let race control (Scott) and the Chairman (Dale) know that you're coming along - both are great guys and avid fans of the Retro Racers class. Cheers James -

I understand there's to be a Stewards inquiry over the racing between Richard's Willy and my Box - cutting corners, ramming and wheelies are just some of the alleged infringements under scrunity We got chatting today and thought that it would be great if we could have a heat of VLBs, Pumpkins and Willys - so if you're interested in having a laugh - let us know and we'll get something arranged. We really need a minimum of six (but more would be even better) to put on a separate heat. Today's racing was confirmation that Retro Racers has firmly established itself as a fun racing class with universal appeal - this week we had a great mixture of experienced racers/newcomers of all ages. The spectators loved it and there was a real buzz around the track and pits from other racers who wanted to know more about the cars. For me, the best thing about the meetings (other than Dale's BBQ) is the camaraderie that's developed between us - the banter and friendly spirit is exactly what the racing should be about. The meetings have given me the chance to meet some great guys from TC - so, cheers to everyone that's supported Retro Racers this season. James -

Richard was so pleased with his erection, he took some photos of it in the garden to show me. He also informs me it went up in seconds and is likely to stay up no matter what. Just don't tell his other half - he's keeping it a secret. ( something doesn't sound right here) -
