  1. Yes...Yes - it was my Frog this time however it is the first occasion the car has let me down this season. Correct me if I wrong, but I think you still hold the record for retirements. BTW - Nice start line photos Richard. James
  2. I've been running a super stock RZ in my Frog and found it to be plenty fast enough - I'd go for the super stock if I were you.
  3. Hi Folks, I've attached a YouTube link to videos taken from the last two race meetings at Hinckley Radio Controlled Car Club (HRCCC), which includes footage of the Retro Racers series. http://www.youtube.com/user/MrHailMing Wrightpumpkin's brother also kindly took a video of a Retro Racers heat during this week's meeting (see link) You'll find other great videos associated with this link. Hope you enjoy them. Cheers James
  4. Te hehe - you wrote Willy! I've got a new chassis on order for my VLB - should be back on the road for next time. Couldn't believe how much threadlock affected the plastic - I'll be using nylock nuts from now on. James
  5. What a fantatsic day's racing - glad to see a good turn out of racers from TC - cheers guys. Wrightpumpkin's Brat performed admirably with a very respectable 4th place in the final. Eddystone's Brat let him down again in the final, but at least his Wild Willy had everyone enthralled - so much so that I'm sure we'll be seeing others getting their Wild Willies out at the next meeting. James
  6. Yup, Fine with me... I'm hoping we'll have a good crowd this Saturday...fingers crossed the weather is good. James
  7. No worries Andy, We'll save you a place on the rostrum Take care buddy James
  8. Hi Andy, Sorry you couldn't make it - hope you're feeling better. Are you free next weekend? James
  9. Jag, There is a complete body set in Japan, but that's a bit costly - you'll just have to keep a look out. James
  10. Cheers Jag, GH2 shells can be a bit hard to find - as an alternative, how about a Fire Dragon? It fits straight on. Hopefully we'll have some camcorder footage from today's meeting - I'll make sure I get it posted here on TC. Look forward to seeing you at Hinckley in the near future - until then good luck with your projects. James
  11. Hi Big Jag, Thanks for your post...No one has turned up to a meeting with a Clod yet; not sure it would fit under the transponder loop. But if you have an old buggy, you'd be more than welcome to join us. The racing is nothing too serious, but close and good fun due to the silver can motor limit. The VLB meeting was suggested as a bit of fun - think most of us will be rolling around on the rostrum laughing our heads off. If you're interested in coming along we'll be racing every Saturday until September, send me a PM and we can have a proper chat. Cheers James
  12. Hi Folks, Just to let you know that we're intending to run Lunch Boxes and Pumpkins for a bit of a laugh this week at Retro Racers meeting (Hinckley RCCC). Usual Retro Racers rules apply. Come and join in the fun... Cheers James
  13. That answers that then - cheers bud
  14. Hi guys, I've just set up a new SIG and had a question asked from a fellow TC member interested in joining. He wants to know whether you need to be a full member to participate in the SIG - can anyone shed some light on this matter please? Cheers James
  15. Hi Mr. ED you're right - you can't beat the thrill of racing - even if it's just for a laugh. I say get in touch with the club in Brussels and have yourself some fun. Really envious of you working in Japan - I'd love to visit the place. We had a Yokomo Hot Dog running the other week (idbandy - brought it along) - love the old Yokomo buggies - their latest releases just aren't the same. No idea on the full member issue - I'll post something in the Club Rules section - perhaps one of the moderators will have the answer. Catch you later buddy... James
  16. Thanks for your comments Mr ED - have you got anything like this in Belgium? Eddystone and I have just set-up a new SIG to encourage vintage racing (see link below) - you're more than welcome to join. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/sig_member.asp?id=166 Cheers James
  17. Hi Folks, Just a quick post to let you know about the forthcoming BRCA Mid-West Off-Road Regional at Hinckley RCCC on the 24th May 2009 (Sunday). Hinckley RCCC is delighted to be playing host to a round of the prestigious BRCA 2009 Regional Series for 2WD and 4WD 1/10 off-road electric buggy classes. Furthermore, following the recent introduction of the exciting Retro Racers - 1/10 vintage electric buggy racing series at Hinckley RCCC, the Club will also be catering for a heat of up to 10 vintage buggies. This is great opportunity to promote vintage buggy racing as a viable, inclusive and exciting class to a broad audience of racers from all across the Region and BRCA Officials. It would be fantastic if this event could be supported by TC members. Race fees are £6.00 if pre-booked (via BRCA) or £8.00 on the day. Further event and booking details can be found on the BRCA Mid-West Off-Road Regional website: http://www.brca-midwest.co.uk For Hinckley RCCC information and news on hosting of the round, please visit: http://www.hinckleyrccc.co.uk/phpforums/viewforum.php?f=8 For news of the Retro Racers series at Hinckley RCCC, please visit the following TC Forum and showroom posts: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=48822 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...11&id=14357 I'm happy to forward any questions you have regarding the Regional on to the Club. Look forward to hearing from you... Cheers James
  18. Hi Dean, No worries about this Saturday...after the 16th I'll be away for two weeks, but others will be there - Do you know Eddystone? perhaps you could contact him. As for the Lunchbox meeting - it wouldn't be a proper meeting without a Pumpkin or two. We need to finalise the details, but it's likely to be one of the June meetings - I'll let you know. Cheers James
  19. It was great to see a Cougar running again - really miss mine from when I was a lad - it was the best car by far. You've got a cracking collection of old racers - enjoyed seeing the Yokomo Hot Dog - reckon that'd go better with some LiPo cells and a nice new G2 Mardave silver can. I'll get my old YZ10 running for next time... James
  20. Hi Andy, Sorry to hear you and Dawn got the lurgy... It was good to meet it up; your presence certainly added something to the racing and, from comments made during and after the racing, helped to show some of the regular racers how good the retro class can be when there's a few running at a similar pace. Pity your Cougar gave out on you - you and Andy were having a great battle for first spot. Looking forward to seeing you and Dawn in June. I'll keep you informed... Definitely up for a Lunchbox meeting - I know Andy is well keen on getting one. It'll be a hoot... Cheers again Andy...catch you later. James
  21. Hi Dean, There will be meetings every Saturday until the first week in September. Fancy coming next Saturday? James
  22. Andy, When you check the overall times from the heats, I think you'll be surprised how close the pace is between the vintage class and 2WD (despite them making use of brushless motors etc.). I think the main difference between the two classes is consistency - although the vintage buggies may be running a bit slower, they're easier to keep on the track - which is great, especially as we're trying to encourage newbies and vintage enthusiasts to racing. However, for the more experienced racer, the vintage class offers something different to "characterless modern racing UFOs" (that one's for you Richard ) and provides a challenge in getting the most out of the technology - similar to Mardave V12 racing. There's something for everyone with vintage racing... I'm planning to get to the track for about 12ish - Think Richard is doing the same. We'll look out for you - you're more than welcome to pit with us if you like? See you tomorrow chap... James
  23. Hi Andy, The answer is yes provided the original model was first produced pre 1996 - I perhaps should have made that clearer in the first post. So your examples of the Subaru Brat and Manta Ray are fine as the original cars were first produced in 1983 and 1990 respectively. The idea behind including re-released models, especially those currently available, is to encourage people who haven't got an old buggy to buy a re-release and participate. It also makes sense on a practical level as there's a better chance of parts availability - which is why I'm running a Frog. James
  24. I've found that a piece of scrap lexan make a good transponder holder...just find a suitable place on the chassis to either screw, stick or velcro the holder to. Make sure the transponder is mounted away from power cables and level to ensure a strong signal for the receiver loop. At HRCCC, the receiver loop is mounted above the track, so ideally you'll need to mount the transponder in the cockpit/roof area of the chassis as close to the loop as possible. The transponder is the typical AMB hand out type used by clubs, which is approximately 30mm x 30mm x 12mm with a 7mm diameter mounting lug. Remember to bring a large body clip to secure the hand out transponder to the holder. Alternatively, if you have a personal transponder, you can us that. James
  25. Hi Andy, Unfortunately LiPo packs need to be in a hard case for safety reasons. Modelsport are doing a good deal on Orion Lipo packs at the mo if you're interested? James
