  1. Certainly.

I subscribe to the X-men titles (and have followed them since 1984), including most of the "connected" titles such as Wolverine, Cable etc. I'm also slowly making my way through Sandman by Neil Gaiman and Cerebus by Dave Sim. Every now and then I pick up something new, often after reading about it in Wizard. Comics, reading, collecting and making my own is probably the one hobby I've been into the longest and which has cost me the most and now I have 10 shelves of them and every month my apartment loses about half an inch of available space to the darn things.

Apart from following titles I also try to follow John Byrnes work, probably because of the great impact he had on me in the early 80's when I first discovered X-men (published in Sweden a few years later than the US version).

  2. I think the Dirt Trasher is a good choice, I myself have a Manta Ray which is the same car with a different body. (And I plan to buy a Dirt Trasher body for varation's sake.)

Mine is 11 years old and so far only one part has broke, the motor mount so I suggest buying the aluminium motor mount (now, it ended production last year). Over those 11 years a few small cracks have appeeared around some screw holes which I think is more my fault (tightening the screws too hard). And I have run it on asphalt, grass, through the forest, in the snow, during rain. The one thing I haven't done is jumps so I don't know how it stands up to such use.

    Ball bearings: 6x850 and 16x1150

And if you want the complete line of hopups I suggest you go to www.tamiyausa.com and download the car's parts pdf sheet.

  3. I don't know if you're dead set on trades or not. If not you should know that alot of the stuff for it (the speed tuned gear, the hardened drive shaft) is still being made.

I'd snatch up the aluminium motor mount first since it ended production last year.

Check out www.tamiyausa.com where they have charts for what hop ups and parts fit that chassis. Current models using the TA01chassis includes the Dirt Trasher and the Blazing Star.

    Hope that helps.

  4. So, once again a few questions for all you esteemed Tamiya sages.

    1. According to my Tamiya Rc guide books the Madcap tires are sligthly larger than the Manta Ray/Dirt Trasher tires, 87 mms to 84. Is this correct or did someone at Tamiya get the measurements wrong? The reason I'm asking is because I want those black wheels but I want to make sure that I can use my Manta Ray tires with them. And if anyone has it handy the product number for the Madcap wheels would be nice.

    2. Anyone got the stats for the Technituned motor (50231)?

    3. Could anyone give me the full names for these product numbers:

    53078

    50393

    53100

    53112

    4. Are the 53058 the same wheels as the 0335102?

    5. What is 4025036?

    6. And for anyone who has the time, apart from the Dirt Trasher and Terra Conqueror/Blazing star bodies, which bodies can be used with the Manta Ray (using the FRP setup, which makes it include the Top Force Evolution-line)? And if you have them, the product numbers for those bodies.*

    Many, many thanks.

(*Yeah, I know I can go through the manuals, but that takes an awful long time.)

  5. My brother has an old Kyosho Rampage 10 which recently was in an accident. The part that was broken is the lower front suspension arm but it is no longer made. So I thought I'd look here if anyone has these and is willing to part with one or two. I have a few Tamiya parts to trade with or I could transfer money through Paypal.

If not that, if anyone knows a replacement part, perhaps from a newer Kyosho buggy that could replace this that would be great also.

  6. "Has anybody got one and if so what are they like? I am interested in getting one but would like some peoples view on real life experience. What is the sound like compared to 2 stroke nitro? Is the engine 2 or 4 stroke? Uses normal unleaded doesnt it? What is their top speed and acceleration like? Finally, and most importantly, are they fun?"

I got one at home right now, a try-before I buy kind of thing. Me and my brother took it out for two runs, one on gravel and one on asphalt.

The sound? Well this one came with a zenoah engine (there's also a solo engine available) and it makes the same noise as say a lawnmower, a scooter or similar. Compared to the nitro engines I've heard the sound is much lower. It's 2-stroke engine. It uses normal unleaded gas, yes, with some oil. (Not having a real car I don't know if oil comes standard in a normal car.)

Top speed for this motor, with no hop ups is about 50 miles/hour or 80 km/h. It accelerates really quickly. It was so fast that neither I or my brother ever dared to make it go at max speed.

It came equipped with what looks to be two twin mounted steering servos. (I couldn't take it apart until the deal is done.)

Needless to say I'm getting it.

How much I'm paying for mine? 100-200 Euro. Now be envious ;)

  7. Actually the Manta Ray tires shouldn't be hard to find replacements for, since the Dirt Trasher which is still being made as of my 2002 Tamiya catalog is a Manta Ray (different body and decals).

    But I see the point.

For car park running I guess slicks, foam or radial tires would be good. The Blazing Star which is similar in body type to the Manta uses 50522 Castrol Celica Wheels and 9805561 Tires. Those are 7 mm narrower than the normal Manta tires.

On Tamiyas US site they have charts telling which parts fit what car, that can be helpful, also the annual catalog. Just look for the Dirt Trasher and Blazing Star for compatible parts.

  8. A few days ago, when I reentered my Manta ray into my showroom I also uploaded a picture to go along with the text. But it seems to be missing now. There was no problem during upload so I thought I'd check here first, if there's some common fix, or if I should just try til it works.

  9. I thought I run this by you first, before I waste money and effort.

I used to have a normal Manta Ray with acoms radio gear, but a few months back I bought an Acoms ESC. The car works fine when I drive alone, but whenever my brother's transmitter is between me and my car, everything behaves erratically, the throttle and the steering.

This is something rather new, it's worked perfectly except for the last two runs. (And no, me and my brother are on two different frequensies.)

So. What do you think is the problem? Something obvious?

  10. My friend, the local smutmaster showed me some pictures af a girl stripping with a Tamiya kit. Of course I had to save those pictures. Don't know if it's general interest enough, altough if greenlighted from above, the only decent one could be posted. In that she's fully clothed, in the others it's full frontal you know what.

Apologies to anyone who takes offence.

  11. I'm 28, and whether I'm looking at motors for my RC, RC cars or full scale cars, what I primarily want to know is how fast it will go. The higher number, the bigger thrill.

This of course differs from when I'm actually driving them. Right now, both I and my brother have reawakaned our RC interests and I've started hopping up my Manta Ray and assisted my brother as we tried to get his Kyosho Rampage to move at all. And now that it does move I'm looking for two things. 1) A motor that will make my car equal in speed to his car. 2) The fastest Tamiya motor that I can fit in the car just to see how fast it could go. (The fastest probably being the Dynatech 02, since the super modified 11T is 4T under my ESC turn limit.)

It's probably more sensible to upgrade slowly, to learn to cope with the added speed, but it's fun to shock the system too. Speed! Speed! Speed! :)

  12. It's just plain easier to ship within one country, one less form to fill out. And it's just not americans, other nationalities do this as well.

I just think with the number of americans on ebay, it would be more common to come across american sellers.

There's also the language factor, not everyone can be trusted to understand english fully which can lead to more complications.

  13. My big project is hopping up my Manta Ray with all I can get for it. That should take the next year.

I've also set my eyes on a few cars like the Toyota TS020 GT One at half price, or a Toyota Celica or New Beetle at same price. And There's a Raybrig NSX mk10 also that's getting my attention. It'äs only gonna be one of these two. I'm not some insane collector ;)

  14. My Id comes from a Advanced Dungeons & Dragons action figure called Warduke. It was the first online name I chose for myself. It was however taken in a few places so I added "Real" in front of it.

I am however not THE real Warduke as that honor would go to the player of the character on which the action figure was based.

Warduke also appeared in a D&D adventure module and the D&D cartoon.
