Hello! Wow,I just went to your r/c link,Daryn 1!For the 30-40th time by the way!!!!Ye,Tamiya isn't what it use to be!Now it's all touring cars with similar chassis/bodies as well as the odd "popular car" once in awhile!I think that the frog/hornet/hotshot days were at Tamiya's peak.I think that the Tamiya peak came to an end during the bigwig/porsche9594wd era!Does anyone agree? There were some really good cars after that, once in awhile, such as the Blackfoot/Coldbuster/Avante/Topforce ect!But nothing like the old days when the frog and the Hornet were household names in the r/c world!!!There are many NIB kits these days that are post Bigwig days but sell really cheap except for odd cars such as the Topforce evolution which usually gets a really high price!
-
Hello!! I was wondering what inspired you to get into these cars???What was the "first" thought????For example,"I always wanted a supershot when I was a kid" or "I'm going to renovate my hornet after fifteen years",going on e-bay for the first time????

Hello! I have read many things on Tamiya cars! Some I think are true while others I'm not so sure?Do you believe any of these?I personally call them myths that might be true or revolve around the truth!Just how accurate are they?Do you agree with them?Do you have your own opinions? One of them is that the RoughRider was the first popular 2wd electric off road?As well as being the first r/c off road to be raced or start even half serious racing? As well as being the biggest catilyst for r/c cars in history-where here today because of this car? Another one is that The original Blackfoot became the catilyst for r/c trucks becoming huge, which led to the RC10GT which has led to the nitro revolution! Another is that the Clodbuster was the truck that made monster trucks popular???Flip through Radio Control car action, their selling monster truck tyres for nitro cars as well as proline bodies, suspension kits chromed frames ect. Was this the first highly popular monster truck as well? A personal belief is that the Hornet/frog/hotshot/supershot days were at Tamiya's r/c peak?Every person knew these car's by name! Now it's all touring cars with similar chassis and different bodies! What do you think???Do you have any of your own?

A 380's with a 3000nimh battery?????
Supershot replied to Supershot's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Thanks for the answers!!!!! Also,-great collection Blondiniboy!!!Your just as mad as Daryln1(bit of a world God in NIB collections!)WOW!!I love your Grasshopper by the way! -
I am in the midst of getting some 3000+ batteries as well as a used but in great condition vintage Grasshopper.I was wondering if the grasshopper can take the full run time of a 380's motor as well as handling the 3000+ capacity without the "stock speed controller" getting damaged? As some of you might know these cars use to give 15+ minute run times with the stock Tamiya 1200 batteries back in the early 80's! Will the speed controller get too hot and burn??????Please don't recommend ESC's with these motor's(stock Mabuchi's)as I have tried them before and they are full of glitches!!I don't want to change the stock 380's motor, period!!!!Any thoughts and idea's???Also what do you think the run time will be?

Hello! I was wondering if a sports ESC's with a heat sink like Novak's and Tekin's can fit inside the Hotshot/Supershot chassis? As some of you may know this chassis compartment is extremely cramped up,with little room which takes quiet some time to open up!Will I have to leave the upper part open?Even drill a hole to let some air in?
-
I own a Tamiya off road and run it with a Novak sports ESC,Reedy Sonic motor(15Quad) as well as some very cheap and prehistoric Tamiya 1700scr battery packs!I am seriously considering changing to 3000+ cells, maybe even matched 3000+nimh cells. I am currently getting 6 MINUTES OF RUN TIME with 1700scr's!How good are 3000 Nimh's?Do "matched" 3000 nimh batteries give longer run times than unmatched? Will I get an "extraordinary" run time? What are your personal run times in minutes? Is asking for 10 minutes+ insane?

Hello WillyChang! Wow,you knew!!!! What a guy is B.J. is,eh!He has assembled a few cars for me!Personally,I feel sorry for him doing a whole car but he doesn't seem to mind at all!Have you seen the window by the door with all the plastic models? All his creations!!!!!!Wow!!!! THe first time I saw him was when I bought some 1700scr's.He's worked at Hobby Place for 8 years+! -

Hello Willychang!!! You commented about HobbyPlace earlier and about Ron as well as Don!!!Does a "Don" exist???I thought you said it jokingly but I thought it might be true because Ron actually has a identical twin brother! He always worked part time at the other store-"Hobbyplace train shop" which was 2-4 stores away from a huge department store called Myer in melbourne Australia! The store is now obsolete and has now moved adjacent to the real store at the opposite side of Lonsdale st-just demolished a big part as an entrance at the side of the two buildings. Does Don exist?Does anyone know the last name of the two brothers more importantly????? No Joking!!!If you do,what is it?No joking! If you really knew--who is a staff member that has a two letter initial? I hope I get an answer! Talk about obsession to a Hobby store!!!!!!!! -
Hello! Are any of you pre ebay collectors?Did any of you start with a Rough rider, superchamp, frog ect and keep it in nib form as collecting to the present moment? That's got to be rare!!!!! What did you do before e-bay?Was there life before e-bay apart from locking the kit up in a garage and suddenly e-bay comes along?
-
Are any of you into r/c gas cars apart from the Tamiya cars you collect and run!Paying almost $2000 for nib's is cool and insane but it can buy you a very high tech Gas car with the best gear! For example a "Kyosho Kanai 2" with a modified novarossi engine and the best radio gear!!Do any of you own a nitro powered car and what is it?
-
I was wondering if most of you have a favorite Hobby store? This can be in any part of the world with it's full name listed! It can be because of sentimental reasons, their range of goods, they have stocked Tamiya since the first model, the store you take your little kid to every Friday night, whatever the reason! My personal favourite is "Hobby Place" at Lonsdale St in Melbourne Australia.I'm really obsessed with this store.I sometimes(well quiet often)just go at nights by a long bus trip and stare at the window with dreamy eyes for ages! The first thing I bought their was a Tamiya HotShot(1985) as well as eons of other cars.It was established at 1979 and still run by a Japanese guy called Ron!A truly legendry store!!!!!

Hello from Australia! I was wondering what was the first "Vintage Tamiya"(pre1990) model that you first saw running as a kid? Also, how old where you and where were you at the time and how has it influenced your thinking??? The first car I ever saw running was the Tamiya Hornet back in 1985 at a school playground in the Melbourne suburb of Kew.I was 11 at the time and hold that memory as one of the nicest in my childhood! The Hornet to my young eyes was going totally insane doing donuts, going through puddles and outchasing the fastest kid to all our amazement-I'v been totally hooked ever since!!
