  1. Building up a clod and I noticed that the axle shaft on one side sticks out a little father than the other. One side the e-clip doesn't ride on the washer that's next to the bearing, it sticks out a little. Looked at the instructions and there is a long tube and a short tube. If I stand the tubes on their ends there is a difference, one longer one shorter. So I build the axle according to the instructions but the axle shaft end still sticks out a little, is this normal?

  2. I've had a clod for about two years now, bought it on ebay but it was missing all the steering linkage and speed control and motors. The body was cut up but it came with a new decal sheet, I had a new clod body that I bought about 9 years ago just sitting. I painted the body and added the decals and it sat for the last year or so. I figured out by the time I buy the speed control, linkage and stock motors I would be better off buying another clod. So I finally bought another clod from ebay, its a bowtie clod. The pictures made it look better than it really was, when I got it I was disappointed to see the paint was bad. This was a early clod with bowtie grill, chevrolet tail gate and decals. The chassis was complete but dirty/dusty from sitting around. I stripped the chassis and cleaned everything and reassembled it. This clod was never really used, the gears were clean, no grease, the axles and stub shafts are so clean they are still black... no wear at all. No scratches on the axle cases or chassis. Besides the body this things is almost perfect. So I took my new built body with original decals and put on this complete chassis for my nice clod shelf queen. If I ever come across early clod decals with the chevrolet on the side I will stripped and repaint the body that came with it. In the mean time here are a few pics.

  3. Is the blazing blazer and bruiser steering wheel the same? I'm missing the steering wheel and post for my blazer and I found a blazing blazer steering wheel post in a pile of tamiya parts I have. the post is broken but repairable. I have a bruiser wheel but I don't want to use it unless its the same.

  4. Too right, the majority in fact :)

Tamiya clearly have a habit of surprising us, the Avante more so than that pathetic attempt at a Holiday Buggy! A vintage 3-speed re issue could grace us you never know.......

I would love to see a re release of a 3 speed, I have a few bruisers, mountys, a blazer and hilux but I just don't see it happening. I would love for tamiya to prove me wrong, but with the high lift/hilux with a 3 speed trans, leaf spring, solid axle and a mountaineer body you have yourself a "holiday buggy" 3 speed release.

Also look at all of the sand scorcher/buggy champs sitting on shelves in hobby shops. Collectors like you and me bought them but there really doesn't seem to be much market out there besides that. Lets say tamiya re-releases a bruiser (just for example) now the kit cost X amount of money. For you and me we would buy one, maybe build it and enjoy it on a level that maybe we enjoyed it 20 some years ago. However if you were a none classic tamiya RC guy or gal, how disappointed would you be after spending X amount of dollars for lack luster performance compared to today's rc trucks?

I'm not saying they wont, and really I think it would be cool to build one from nib, please please please tamiya prove me wrong....

Like I said, how many hobby shops are "stuck" with sand scorcher and buggy champs, do you think they will order a bunch of bruisers (again for example) too?

Re release are cool, I just got a re re hornet for Christmas, but really if they re release everything, whats to stop them from re re releasing everything again 15-20 years from now?

So instead of re releasing a hole kit, how about re releasing body sets, decals, parts trees for some of the classic tamiya stuff?

I hope I can come back to this post a few months/years from now and eat my own words.

  5. Sand it don't use any stripper on clear plastic, it will fog it or worse craze it.

you could use ELO stripper on it but it will fog it and then you will have to sand it anyway. get a Micromark polishing kit or a novas paint polishing kit, 2400, to 12000 grit sandpaper, then wet sand it down with the 2400 to remove the paint and then work your way up to 12000 and finish off with a polishing liquid.

yes it will be very labor intensive.

also keep in mind, people painted the clear plastic usually after a roll over and the plastic cracked. usually people glued the window cracks then sanded it and painted it black to cover up the damage.

so you could polish all the paint off and discover the plastic is cracked anyway.

it looks like a perfect window that someone painted the inside black, no scratches or cracks. I thought about wet sanding it, just didn't know if there was a faster way, thanks I will give it a try.

  6. I've had a little time to work on my RCs again and I have been working on my blazing blazer. I have everything I need for the body except decals the steering wheel and post and the metal brackets that attach the rear wing with the main wing. Does anyone have a templete for the brackets, maybe I can just make some, or is there something else that will work? Also does anyone have a blazing blazer with the repo decals from this site? How do they look?

  7. Well to get a original complete body isn't cheep, and if the front axle is bent that would have to be replaced. $250 sounds about right for a bodyless bruiser that needs a little work. I have a nice gen 1 tmaxx with alot of hopups if you want to trade.

email me a gsxr_600@hotmail.com if your interested.

  8. all of the auctions he had listed were copies from auctions about 10 days ago. I was looking at this last night and woundered why someone with good feed back would do this with three auctions. Is it possible this guys ebay account was used by someone else? I had a few emails with the guy and he told me he wasn't sure why the pics were the same from the other auction but he told me i could have it for 1100us.
