  1. The two problems you have need to be treated differently, bottoming out and too much bounce. I was going to ask what viscosity shock oil you're running? You may need to go up a weight or two. If you do this you may want to wind the spring retainers down a wind (360*) or even two for more preload. Try adding preload first because it's easy and see if that alone helps with the bottoming out, if it does and it doesn't make a difference to the bounce you're getting then change up your shock fluid. Those springs look quite beefy and have a lot of winds, do you know their specs? Just throwing out some ideas, feel free to ignore me! 😎
  2. Ebbs and flows for me too, I'm recently back in after another hiatus. Late 80's, early 90's, seven or eight year break, early 2000's, five or six year break, early 2010's then perhaps another 5 years and a 1 year dip back in in 17/18, back now in '21, let see for how long! 😂 As above, don't sell your prized possessions, you're very likely to be back.
  3. This. I'm keen to see how this worked out, I'm not brave enough to crack my NIB!
  4. Realised I'd failed to install my box-art front bumper and side mirrors on my Scorcher before putting it back on display, rookie mistake... Done properly... Whew! 😉
  5. Yes, it seems to me at a glance that by trying to be tricky with the front suspension they've compromised the steering and battery access, and the front suspension.
  6. 56 minutes to get to the Super Avante! Edit: and not even a glimpse with the body off... 😢
  7. Yes, my bad, sorry folks... my previous comment assumed one front shock, not two. If it does indeed have two then I'm open minded and want to see the design.
  8. The problem there is that one damper will always be less than two dampers. Physics tells us it's going to be sub-optimal.
  9. I agree re: the Avante name, this is a disapointment. If they wanted an updated shaft off-roader why not evolve the DB02 which is a pretty good chassis? The inboard front shock is an automatic fail for anything competitive (edit: off-road), I don't see this having a meaningful following.
  10. Built and installed a new (cheap but functional) unit to display some of my queens with my well-sorted OG 511u runner up top. They're all sitting on their tyres at the moment which is no good so need to sort that. I was thinking of spraying black some spare polystyrene packing blocks I had, any comments? I'm weighing up my options to build my 2011 Avante and a NIB vintage Egress for the top shelf... 😛
  11. Edit: lol ^ snap! Super Avante... https://www.tamiya.com/japan/newstopics/2021/0625superavante/index.html
  12. Hmm, sold a few days ago, bidding pushed it up higher than I expected in the end. https://www.ebay.com/itm/265195034565?hash=item3dbedb17c5:g:yFAAAOSwJVtgxjAN
  13. I did that with an Egress back in the day, sold it to a member here for pennies on the pound.
  14. Okay, that makes me feel better, I was concerned you might have been ripped off at full TFE prices... nobody ever sold that original top plate for cheap because it was simply unobtainium unless you had an original kit. Yes, you're correct, standard Top Force had a FRP chassis (top and bottom) and no inscription.
  15. Nice work, these 'vintage' buggies deserve that sort of care and attention. The Super Astute and Dyna Storm are some of the best looking vehicles Tamiya ever produced.
  16. Any photo, even upside down, is better than those taken by people who insist on holding their phone upright (portrait) when taking photos. I can't understand how they look at the end result on a proper screen and don't ask themselves a) why the photo is so small and b) why there are huge black bars. Seriously people, learn how to use your tech properly, it's a photo, not rocket science.
  17. Hmm, I hate to say it, and I hope I'm wrong, but that Evolution (original) actually looks like an FRP top plate, more black than grey and with white(ish) edges. That doesn't reconcile with the "Evolution" inscription though (although easy to print). The Evo at the top on the other hand looks original. I've attached a close-up from one of my original TFE's, note the colour and the dark edges. Edit: also the location of the inscriptions on yours is different to my original, yours are marginally longer and the font is taller... not a good sign.
  18. Dude, that sucks, I'm really sorry to hear that. My best wishes for you, you family (and neighbours), I hope it works out okay for you all.
  19. Top Force = FRP Top Force Evolution = Carbon Fibre chassis, FRP towers.
  20. Yes, I remember that theory/rumour and yeah, look what happened!
  21. Be sure to correct the rotational direction of the tyres, they're on the wrong side of the car. 😉
