  1. Sounds like a blast. A few weeks back I destroyed my race car on the first lap of the first race, so for the next heat I entered my Boomerang...into 4WD mod class. I had only taken it with me so my boy could drive it between races, Still, I had a great time, and the Boomerang looked cool throwing up roost and leaping the jumps.
  2. TB EVO box reminded me of a dinner plate....
  3. Common practice on competition spec 2wd buggies. Imo I think its to keep the surface of the wheel as flat as possible.
  4. DT-02 is a near perfect basher, Simple to build, Plenty agile, and super tough. One of the few RC cars I have run and never managed to break. Sure the gearing options are limited, and the under-steer cannot be 'tuned" out via setup, But it does so much so well that it makes up for it (and hey, if you want race car abilities, go buy a race car) In regards to the under-steer, decide where you want to apex the corner and let off the throttle, when shes pointing in the required direction apply throttle, Pretty simple driving technique. I'm always dismayed by people that will invoke on-power under-steer, refuse to modify their driving to change their line, and then claim a car is rubbish for turning in a big wide radius.
  5. Stunning piece of kit, Thoroughly enjoyed the build, everything was very precise and went together beautifully. Quality through and through,My only complaint is it was over too soon. Only managed to drive it once as the weather here has been utter **** but it felt fantastic to drive. I shot a short video on my track.
  6. I just built mine, Didn't tap anything, Didn't need to. Everything screwed in nice and easy.
  7. Still one of the most fun cars ever designed, and one of the best looking. I wanted one when I was 14 but never quite managed it, so bought one a few months back. Sure they are heavy, badly balanced, and handle like a brick but for some reason they are a ton of fun. I have my own track and a fleet of RC cars from different manufacturers and out of them all the Boomerang is the most fun to drive....well....until you get into the race spec kits with brushless motors and whatnot. Currently running an RZ motor in her and they are a perfect match, Just enough power to make it interesting without making it undrivable. Funny enough my son (5) loves it the best out of the ones we have as well and has claimed it as his own. When his brother is old enough to take an interest its going to another Boomerang or a Hotshot. A little page I put together when I was waiting for my kit to be delivered, http://rcoffroad.co.nz/boomerang.html
  8. It deforms the gearbox by wearing through it, I'll post a pic of mine if you want, Though its not that spectacular in the flesh so to speak.
  9. As highlighted in the picture, Its evil name is B7.
  10. You missed out a piece, That is a little plastic.......uh.................dont know what you would call it, almost a spindle, Its on one of the plastic trees and fits inside one of the gears and then slots into a groove inside the gearbox. Without it the gear floats free, when in reverse it gets pushed up into the plastic casing and wears through.

Due to the limited gearing options putting a hot motor in a Sand Viper is pointless, especially a cheap hot motor, They are crapola. You will however get great speed out of a good quality 19T motor when coupled with a good strong battery, However it will still feel like it has long legs, You will need a decent sized space to get her going to her potential. Mine was great around a largish track or flat area, Pointless around my backyard, So in the end I settled for the RZ motor, Its a bit faster then the BZ and IMO suited the buggy perfectly.
  12. well worth checking out the link in the first post if anyone hasn't done so yet. He has finished the build.
  13. Omnimodels is just a different frontend for Tower Hobbies..... I painted mine Gun metal and yellow, Only because that's what I had left in my collection of paints. It looks all right, Rough as guts because that's the way I do things, But the colours work imo.
  14. First I have ever heard about Tamiya having financial problems, and as for being about to close.. Unless someone can state otherwise I'm going to say you were told a lot of rubbish, and I know Tamiya have plants outside of Japan. That aside, Kyosho have done a stunning Job on the kits posted in this thread, and good on them for doing a replica to the point of having their biggest competition advertised on their cars. A few months back I looked over an Nitro powered RTR Ferrari from Kyosho, It was with out a doubt the sexist RC I have ever seen, And I have no love for Nitro or onroad cars. And lets not forget the amount of victories their off-road nitro cars have had at every level on the world stage.
