JUST what I was about to post to ask! [] To confirm - the clear plastic Parma body on the Daytona Thunder is LEXAN, yes? And to clean either BRUSH on nitro fuel or normal car brake fluid? and not leave it in a bucket for a night or two? Thanks Shodog and fellow gurus [*] ! I have to strip and repaint the body before it's first race in 8 days! Black, I think to hide to bad cutting []

Will the 58253: Toyota GT-One TS020 '99 body fit correctly on a Group C chassis? Ie. are the wheelbase and width the same or very close? []

Thanks for the Avante adaptor info! I am looking for them on ebay now and will put a wanted ad here on TC. Finally got some picts [H] [au] , have uploaded them into my showroom! Thanks again for all the positive comments. Tonight I triued to fit the modern shock tower and shocks, only to find that the c.fiber tower is to low at the front, the back will work ok. So instead of putting it back on the shelf I finally filled the rear shocks with oil using the required syringe. I raced with them empty! The front I had filled previously. I also swapped the rear arms for the shortest with the most camber, which is supposed to give it the LEAST oversteer. Its a finiky job with tiny eclips crampt up against the rear gbox. Then I swapped the slicks off, as they were more useful for racing, and put the orig rally tires on and went out to play. HO HO HO! Reduce the oversteer my butt! It was laughable! But as the temp had dropped to about 17 the tires were rock hard and it was just a joke. Will try tomorrow and see how it goes around midday. Hopefully with have the avante adaptors and some sponge tires to try by Friday/Sat.

Acorn - I like this idea of smaller diameter wheels. This would also help lower the overall hight/weight center. Will check out a few stores for options this weekend.

Thanks Willy, yes those are tyres I am thinking about. Now I know they are called duplos! [] So I am hoping they will provide more grip on carpet than the 959 rally tires, but LESS grip than the rubber slicks. Willy - I have seen your older posts and you seem have experience with these tires, can you comment? I will also try pure sponge but, like the rubber slicks, I think they will have too much grip and cause flipping [:'(] Everyones great feedback has inspired me to do another write up after the next race. Thanks. Will do, and get some picts in too! [<)] I will try the foam tires but I think they need to be wiide to help reduce the flipping, thats why I was thinkin about those dual compound ones. Actually, come to think of it how about the REAR tires from the 956 / toyota toms. They are 1/12 scale so perhaps they fit the same size wheel adaptors on the 959. Anbody know?

Glad you enjoyed it! The chassis is quite tough; the battery only came out once. Thankfully I only smacked it HARD! flat against the wall once and the arms didnt break. I managed to avoid a head on, and clipping it on the corners dissapated alot of energy. The worst bang was a direct hit on the rear by someone else, which 'didn't do the bodyshell any favours' iyswim! I took a camera but being there alone couldn't get any action photos. I will update my showroom finally this week with picts of both cars tho! OH - And I just bougt a Group C Daytona car (the one with the parma shell and 01R motor) to use in the next race instead of the 959 untill I get the tires or a kamtec shell sorted. Cheers to TC club member Michael for that only 39 EUROs!!!!!! time to hunt down the winning f1 and the send place merc C11 in the next race in 2 saturdays! []

Last saturday I raced my 959 and Dynastorm on an indoor carpet track :-DD First time I have raced in 13 years! Last time was in '93 on tarmac in Singapore. Anyway... I had the OLDEST two cars at the meet, which consisted of 6 heats per category. Three qualifying and three races each. "Buggy" and "Nostalgia" classes in my cases. Both cars are completey stock, except for the rear shocks on the Dyna which I changed for adjustable, and the motor in the Dyna had to be changed to a SLOWER new 23 turn Tamiya BZ (my first time even of hearig about the new tamiya motors!) as per the race regs. I only have one ESC so had to swap it between the cars during heats! Dyna came 2nd, 2nd, 3rd !!!!!!!!! :DDD Couldn't believe it! The times were even faster than some of the cars in the in the modern touring class - tb04 or whatever the modern trick carbon, metal ones are called. Fantastic fun. Running on carpet is totally different from asphalt! There is SO much traction that the car was doing wheelies acceerating out of alot corners. (adjusting the slipper clutch is boring, just get out and race it!) First two qualifiers were hilarious and horrendous at the same time. The Dyna was constantly three wheeling and cocking up a rear wheel so high it was a fight to stop it flipping in every corner. Was highly specatular and the crowd enjoyed it, but this wasn't what I wanted to keep fighting with. Ideas from everyone about stiffening the rear to make it rock hard only helped somewhat, but it was still lifting and flipping in the tightest turns. Eventually swapped the font springs for the orignal rears. THEN it handled like a great! The front had been so soft the dipping under braking was unbalancing the thing. Top fun after that, and staying out the accidents netted the good results. The 959 ..... :=O I had fitted a celica centre diff to it the week before and hoped this would help. I started of using the stock off road tires. Absolutely zero traction and impossible to drive. The crowd was killing themselves with shouts and I was cringing in pain at the end of the straights as it slammed into the wall or barrier unable to stop in a line or make it round a corner. Qualifying 2, I tried the orginal 20 year old! slicks and suddenly it was drift mania. Was infact alot of fun but using the orignal futaba stick type transmitter I could not control the drifts well enough and again kept loosing it entering and exiting corners. Lucky I have two bodies, the practice one is now sporting "racing incident" scars!! Third qualifying was much of the same. I was the last of the pack and desperately tying to stay out of everyones way when they came by. BUT - it was definitely just as fast as the others!! On straight I could actually overtake some of the group C cars. For the races someone lent me some traction paint for the tires and this helped a bit, and I was amazed at the grip the slicks generated after using this and from heating up as the races progressed. For the races I also swapped the front springs for some MUCH harder ones borrowed from TC member "Manfred", *THANKS DUDE!!* he thinks he cut them out of a quick-drive but is not sure. I also swapped the rears for white springs from mini losi shocks. ALOT better, but still wild. It think I would have done better with a 'gun' style steering wheel transmitter. I really couldn't control the slides using the stick type transmitter. Going to conservative fast in, brake late and straight, proved the only way to get around safe-ishly. Race one went ok, still last and flipping several times as the grip overcomes the high weight center during cornering. It's very painful to see and hear the precious shell flipping and rolling! Race two and on the second lap the fancy celica center diff died on the 2nd lap. no-wheel or 2-wheel drive intermittantly. ****!! I don't know why yet, but it basically froze up solid. People suggested that it's becuase of the carpet fibre, but I cant see how they would ENTER the gearbox. Havent had a close look at it yet. Dissassembleming the rear gearbox is no quick job. After much time stress with the buggy races to run, I managed to change the diff back to the orignal and it worked fine. Still a terrible handful but I finished the last race. So all in all a cool day. I've had for a while plans to change the front and rear suspension to accomdate TA01 or TB02 TRF shocks. I have the shock towers and some standard TA01 shocks now to test fit it. But after this weekends race I realise that that is not going to help alot on carpet races. Unless I get a Kamtec body I dont really want to race it again but it would be cool to get it competitive!! It has got the speed for it. The main problem on carpet is that the slicks produce too much grip for such a narrow chassis, with a relatively high weight centre. Causing flippig. The off road tires were a worse problem. So now I am thinking about the following - does anybody have experience on carpet with those old DUAL COMPONUND tires that came on the Can Am Lola and other early cars? I am wondering if that could be a solution - better grip but with a much lower break away point so it will eventually slide out rather than flip. But not oversteer like with the off road tires. If someone from the car club posts up photos on the club race site I will link them here or post them up. Race the vintage cars!!! :-D

I ask incase some other models used the exact same gears and they may have thus had aftermarket alternatives. I understand the previous relpies tho. I am thinking about the diff mainly. It's **** at gettign the power down. Very tempted to sell it rather than mod it, but the the shiney original silver futaba attack transmitter looks so cool next to the car, and if it can be made to handle it would be more enjoyable. WHatever happens I have decided that any changes will be limited to Tamiya parts or related. No Kyosho or Associated related. Main thing I am going to do is to swap the **** shocks for new TRF ones for the TB/TA series cars. I just have to find a suspension and body mount in a Y shape that fits the existing alloy bracket mouting holes. Will post picts. It may be enough to tame the car somewhat. What happens if I lock the just the rear diff?

956 ! 956 ! 956! I recently emailed Kamtec about this. Waiting to hear back. I have a 959 from Kamtec and its excellent for toughness, and 90% for accuracy. Only the doorhandles and missing roof dimples let it down.

Actually I was thinking of doing exactly this with my Dynastorm. What is the SS wheelbase? (Frog looks shorter :-( ) Nice picts btw!

Does anyone know of an alternative / aftermarket diff that fits the 959 front and rear gearboxes? And did anyone ever make a complete set of metal replacement gears? I haven't started mod'ing it yet but am about to give in! Will be posting some picts of whatever I change. Thanks

"but I prefer the TT01 for a bash anyday as its just a hoot." ... shows a big part of what's different. For those who's first r/c car is a modern one "a blast" typically means tarmac only. For the rest of us "a blast" meant and means a messy romp off and on road, watching our somewhat delicate toy teetering on the edge and making (hopefully) breakage defying jumps and yumps. I feel the "what's missing" has alot to do with fact the majority of todays cars being tarmac biased. So my first post on the TC forum, ...rather showing my age and tastes! Still, I'd love to have one of the ultimate versions of the newest Tamiya weapons on my shelf :-)
