My gripe with youtube is the number of negative ad antagonistic comments you can get!- no fair!

Agree with mymonsterbeetle, they are noisy at low motor spped, as he says its the ESC restricting the curret to the motor ad you get that weird squeel- but totally normal. This sound is different to the bleep-bleep which is the ESC telling you you didnt turn the controller on first!!- as it does not have a steady signal comig ito it. Neil

assuming you are painting a clear polycarbonate shell, you will use polycarb paints- You can get a flame effect in several ways: 1) Buy decal set of flames and stick them on the outside after picking a suitable 'main' colour for the shell 2) Use a brushing polycarb paint for the flames first, then spray the rest of the shell. 3) Use masking tape and cut out your flame effect, spray the rest of the shell with the overall colour, remove the masking then spray the now clear 'flame' area with with yellow/ orange/ red paint. There are other ways inc. airbrush etc, but the above may be the easiest! cheers Neil

Dont think you can get the frog shell pre painted, but painting the shell is half of the fun!- take your time, carefully wash the shell with washing up liquid to remove traces of grease and ensure good paint adhesion. make sure you buy the proper polycarbonate paint for the shell, dont use enamels or other 'hobby' paint as it will most likely crack/ come off!- hope that helped Neil

After having to set up a few TEU 101's I would agree they are not the easiest ESCs to setup correctly, and my first one nearly resulted in me sending it back thinking it was faulty!- you really have to second guess what the instructions are saying- not saying you didn't set yours up right, but I know i have had problems. when you compare to the likes of the budget Mtronics range of ESCs, which are 100% waterproof and easy to set up, the 101 doesnt get a good vote from me.

Dont forget you need the 18 tooth hornet pinion gear to fit the 540 sized motor to the grasshopper. Upgrading to oil shocks would help the unpredictable handling qualities of the grasshopper as well. cheers neil

Hi Wardy Another option would be to go for the speed tuned gears for the TT-01 (£6) and the different pinion gears (£3 for 2) to try out different gearing options with the motor you already have. This would be cheaper and get you nto 'tinkering' etc with the gearing options and learning about the TT-01. Also bear in mind with hot motors, more speed= much more wear on tyres and more damage in a crash! cheers Neil

Hi Timsi, Having just done the 540 motor upgrade on the re-re Grasshopper, thought i would try to help: You need the 18 tooth hornet pinion gear. (From Timetunnel models this is part 3515006, priced 2.99- note the 18tooth AV pinion gears from touring cars will NOT fit) TEU ESC should not be used with hotter motor than a sport tuned 540. My re-re grasshopper is running a standard 540 silver can and compared to the 380 kit supplied motor is plenty fast enough considering the poor handling of the grasshopper! cheers neil

I am alsofalling into this trap, having only been back into Tamiya RC for 6 months, have 7 vehicles, and still want more- getting short of space (even in the attic)- and the temptation to shell out for hop-ups on ebay is terrible!- I feel for you brother!

Hi all, seems the movie hosting is down again. This feature was one of the main reasons I shell out to be a full member!- wish a long tern solution to the problem will be found, its annoying to spend ages uploading the movie only to find it didnt work!- OK rant over. Anyway, I see others have posted links to utube movies, which i would do but cant seem to get the movie upload page to accept ayoutube link, all it wants is mpg/ mov/ etc files. I think i know what you were trying to say now, and it comes down to this: high GEAR is a low gear RATIO, like 5th gear on a real car. Poor acceleration, good top speed. low GEAR is a high gear RATIO. like first gear on a real car, good acceleration, poor top speed.

I see what you are saying, but it is completely the opposite to what the tamiya guide book says on gear ratios, perhaps you would like to ergo, hitherto them as well!- and I wasn't looking for an argument, just trying to help you Neil

nice 2 colour painting on the suzuki. I know what you mean about roughing the inside of the shell first, makes the paint stay on much better, i use sandpaper now. I personally dont like the tamiya 'black out' windows thing, and now try to cut around the window decals to leave the black edging trim but have a clear 'window' part. Tricky to apply though, but clear windows look soooo much better. Love the orange mini by the way, great mettalic colour there.

That is one sweet colour coded car, nice attention to detail, i love your idea of pimped transmitters- you may well have started a trend off there! cheers Neil

I feel for you there, Tamiya addict, i did the same thing!- 18T AV pinion gears no good for grasshopper!, on the bright side, your grasshopper will fly when you fit the proper 18T pinion into it!- oil shocks at the rear will also help with the rather unpredictable handling! cheers Neil

A bigger pinion gear does lower the gearing on a TT-01, from Tamiyas own guide book the numbers are (for standard spur), 19T pinion= 8.35:1, 20T=7.93:1, 21T=7.55:1, 22T= 7.21:1. purchasing the speed tuned gear set (2 spur gears, one at 55T, the other 58T), allows a gear ratio of from 8.35:1 right down to 5.72:1. My motors always run hotter with the speed tuned gears in. Cant say I would recommend an 18T pinion, as i would suspect it will wear the spur gear more quickly as it is not meshing exactly, and of course, you have raised the gear ratio, making the car slower top end as someone above has said. I did the same until Joel Vardy pointed this out!- perhaps this should be made clear on the main site, if enough people dont realise they have to do it,it cant be that obvious, especially when you see all the comments to your car, you sort of expect others will be able to as well!
