Vote For Your Favorite Driver
cherrybomb replied to bakaguyjean's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
My vote goes to the Scorcher, 'cos he looks so sad. -
Yup. If they've used poly cement (which they probably have) it works by melting the plastic and 'welding' it together. If they've used another type of adhesive then anything that will release it is almost certainly going to damage the shell itself. The only really safe way to separate the parts is some very careful cutting but ask yourself if you really need to do it before you start 'cos any cutting is going to remove material that is gone for good.

It's not just me then! I don't think I've brought anything from the trade room that hasn't been priced and I certainly haven't sold anything that isn't If you want to sell stuff and you know how much you're after, try to sell it through the club. if your after an auction.....use ebay. (Works for me and lots of others)

Carbon Fibre Srb Chassis - Who's Interested?
cherrybomb replied to Blacque Jacque's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Yeah...sorry guys. I've been a bit busy (read rushed off my feet! ) I'll get the files off as soon as I can, probably be tomorrow now. Chris. -
I'm after the following Proline Scorcher / Frog / Hornet etc. Wheels: Rear gold. Front chrome and black. CRP front chrome colour rough rider wheel covers. (Ain't we all!) I'm happy to mix and match with people so we each get matching sets, or I've usually got a few SRB bits and bobs for trade!

SRB Ball Diffs. Anyone got one I could borrow!!?
cherrybomb replied to cherrybomb's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Current status on the geared diff is that I must get hold of one to have a look at. Dr. Rob is helping out with that but we have to fit things in around two busy shedules. Ball diff is now drawn up and prototype parts are being sourced so that'll be the first available. -
Can't help with the paint colour but the coil conversions replace the torsion bars in most cases. Chris.

SRB Ball Diffs. Anyone got one I could borrow!!?
cherrybomb replied to cherrybomb's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I'm not sure about committing to buy at this stage, it's still early days, but it might be interesting if people who would be interested in an MIP 'style' ball diff put their names down here so I get some basic idea of numbers. The price per unit is looking like it would be in the region of 40-50. Obviously, I'd like to keep that as close to 40 as possible, but that will depend on quantities. Don't assume that it is a done deal that this will go ahead, however it's looking more and more likely every day. So.... if you'd be interested make yourself known. I'm not going to hold a gun to your head at a later date, but please; reasonably serious interest only please guys, I'm going to be making a fairly substantial commitment to get these made. Chris. -
DOH! I knew it was a good idea though

Hi. You may be able to get your old transmitter to work if you clean the battery contacts but to be honest with the price of a new Acoms Techniplus kit with a new reciever and steering servo being less than 30 on ebay it's probably not worth the effort. I'm not sure if the Beetle kit comes with a speed controller, but I'm sure someone else will; then all you need is a battery which if needs be can be had for under 10 on the bay. If you want a 'named' battery, Venom do some nice ones which are reasonably priced. Oh, and welcome . I used to have a '67 bug many moons ago and I'm sure it was a Sand Scorcher I had as a kid that made me want one. -
I don't seem to have as much of a problem with the logging in thing. I just find every few days I've been logged out. (maybe I'm being told something.....Chris???) Not really a problem, but how about a link back to the forum home page at the bottom of the page too?? I'm lazy and don't have the energy to scroll back to the top every time! Seriously though, just a thought. Chris.

Carbon Fibre Srb Chassis - Who's Interested?
cherrybomb replied to Blacque Jacque's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
One of the problems with the standard chassis stiffener (apart from it not working! ) is that it isn't long enough. It needs to come all the way to the servo mounting hole to actually stand a chance of doing a decent job. Carbon fiber is cool stuff, but it will flex, maybe not as much as FRP for the same thickness, but it will. Putting a bend in the wings will stop it though, mind you the extra width of a winged chassis will probably do the trick anyway. If you can't make a stiff chassis out of CF without the need for a chassis stiffener plate, there isn't much point in making one. You'd be better off using alloy which in 3mm is as stiff as a stiff thing and still reasonably light. I'm not being negative, I think it's a cool idea, oh and if you need a CAD drawing of a butterfly style chassis I've got the drawing for my alloy ones which could be adapted, give me a PM if you're interested. Now a carbon fiber Super Champ top deck to go with the fiber-lite chassis................... Chris. -
Carbon Fibre Srb Chassis - Who's Interested?
cherrybomb replied to Blacque Jacque's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Depending on the design (and the price), I might be interested. I have to say, I'd be more tempted with a design that had an option on front widths and would fit the Super Champ too. Maybe something along the lines of the old butterfly chassis. The more bases you can cover with one design, the better response you'll get. Chris. -
Wanted Srb Scorcher Aluminum Wheel Covers Or Rim Set
cherrybomb replied to Hamnet's topic in Trade Archive
Speak to flux density or rad22rad Alloys. They both make nice alloy wheel covers. I've just had the last sets from FD, but he may get some more made. I know rad22 has them in his showroom for the Scorcher and Rough Rider. As for second hand ones, I doubt very much if you'll have much luck. There are loads of us constantly on the look out for CRP / Proline chrome rims, the fronts are very hard to come by and don't stick around for long. Your best bet is to just keep your eye on ebay, but be prepared to pay good money for a full set. (A set of 4 CRP covers and Troll tyres went this week on the bay for 72). Rears show up fairly often and can be had for 15- 20, but fronts......!! -
Yup. I saw it. all the little icons went black with a gold coloured globe in them, and the left hand end of the banner was black with (!'ve forgotten what it said) the skin name in it I guess. All fine now though.

SRB Ball Diffs. Anyone got one I could borrow!!?
cherrybomb replied to cherrybomb's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
You have PM. It would seem the email fairy has been playing silly bu99ers. -
The only problem I've found with th CRP kits is that the grommets supplied don't seal round the shaft because they're a little on the thin side. I've ended up putting two in each shock so that they compress enough to seal properly. The 'O' rings do a good job of sealing the caps though (as long as you don't over tighten them).

Not so much of a problem as a bit of a shame. That the SIG group banners are too big to be used in your signature.

Just a quick update. I now have a MIP ball diff and metal gear set, all NIP. Time to fire up AutoCAD and do some measuring up.
