  1. Hi.

Been away for a bit. The real world has been getting in the way of fun. This project is not dead, but it has been put on ice for the time being.

Lots of things have been happening in Chris's world; I've had major problems with my email, whilst being on holiday and trying to sort it from a far. I have also has my contract end at work and have been searching (in vain) for another job AND my main engineering man has gone and had a career change and now works for a company making robots which, although I'm sure is very interesting, does not get radio control car part made!!

Anyway, the upshot is that as much as I hate to admit it there are far more important things to sort out at the moment and SRB projects have had to be put on the back burner. They will continue, but at a slower rate of knots so be patient folks I haven't given up. :D

Oh, and I am now officially a student again (which is nice!).....post grad at Oxford from next week!!

  2. If anyone has tried to contact me via email over the last six to eight weeks regarding SRB parts I'm sorry if you haven't had a reply but my email account has been struck by literally thousands of spam emails. Due to the fact that I've been away as well, so have returned to find my inbox overflowing with rubbish, my only option has been to delete the lot because I haven't stood a chance of sorting out the good ones from the rubbish.

New filters are now in place (which seem to be working much better) so if you have been trying to get in contact, try again now.

    Chris.

  3. Well, i just got a new one last week ..

New.. for me then it is,

a long wished for Jeep Cherokee from '94

4.0i high output, and bone stock.

But, that is not going to last for long,

Many parts are comming in these weeks for a full facelift

Just have to get that "suv" look away from it :(

Not quite planning to go offroad a lot, as i wrecked my previous 4x4 with that.

That is not wise to do when you also use it as daily driver.

    Stefan

    Here's my daily drive..... :(

  4. The Karmann Ghia hadn't been born then! I guess you're thinking of the Trekker which came much later.

The Kubelwagen (Type 82) used the mechanicals derived from the Volkswagen 'peoples car' commissioned by the Nazis in the mid thirties. (This was to become the Beetle when production was taken over by the Allies after the war). There was also a military variant used during the war called the Type 87 and the Schwimmwagen a fully amphibious light personnel version (Type 166)

So the floor pan and mechanicals are very similar to an early split screen Beetle, but I'm not sure if the floor pan is identical (probably). They also had reduction gears built into the hubs very much like Type 2 split screen buses.

  5. OK, a bit of an update.......

I have now narrowed the front suspension by 15mm and the rear by 26mm (thanks for the tip about the A arms BJ). The wheels are fronts from a rough rider with outers made up from bits out of the kit along with the kit tyres.

The chassis is just mocked up at the moment, I moved the front forward by just using the front mounting holes in the chassis for the rear holes in the shock towers. The final thing will probably be an alloy ladder with the wheelbase about 3mm shorter than in the photos so the rear wheels are centered in the arches.

You can see from the photos that there is plenty of room for the radio gear and batteries in the front and rear, and the wiring will be tucked away under the transmission tunnel in the floorpan.

Next on the list is to do the chassis properly and start painting the body before adding the interior and other detail. The whole thing will then be 'weathered' to finish it off.

    More photos to follow.

  6. Right....

I got a bit bored (Again!!). The weather's been **** so I can't paint any shells (I know, I know! , you shouldn't paint outside, but I always do...it saves on the ear ache from SWMBO!)

Anyway, I got hold of a Revell 1/9 Kubelwagen kit for the engine out of it. ;) and then decided I'd better use the rest for something hence this........

There's enough room (just) to keep a full interior if I make up a custom battery pack to go in the back and the kit comes with a working fabric top, so it should be cool when it's finished.

Most of the build onto a modified SRB chassis shouldn't be too much of a bind, but the track needs narrowing by about 15mm (ish) so I need a pair of early A arms with the twin bearings. (It's the only easy way I can think of narrowing the rear end.

If anyone's got any they don't need............ or if you've got any better ideas, I'd be really interested to hear. :D

  7. Is that the Revell 1/9 Kubelwagen?

And where do you get proline wheels from?

military or slammed in the weeds for your kubelwagen?

    Yup, that's the one.

The Proline wheels turn up on the bay every now and then, but you could use standard scorcher or rough rider wheels instead I'm sure.

Oh!, ........and Scorchio, how did you guess about the Siera project ?, I thought I'd been real criptic!

  8. Personally I think it's hard to beat standard scorcher / frog / hornet etc. wheels on a beach buggy. (and they're cheap! B) ) But the centers need to be painted black (looks much better).

I have some rear Michelin TRX tyres that would be great on a road legal buggy coming on a set of wheels I just won on eblag that you're welcome to if you want them. (The tyres that is, I need the wheels!)

Or I have three Mickey Thompsons, one front and two rears, that would look good and fit rough rider wheels, but you'd need to find another front and god knows how long that could take.
