  1. Ebay seems to bring right around the $299 USD range for a NIB Novafox. Over the last week i've seen a couple posted in the $499 range but no one is buying at that price. Obviously everyone is dumping them as the re-re-re-release is coming so they are trying to turn a profit.

I've been very lucky over the past year and gotten my hands on 5 right at or below the street price when new using Craigslist want ads.

$299 USD seems like it would sell pretty quickly.

  2. Pretty common problem. Some people have luck with soaking the parts in peroxide and placing them in the sun.  For some this restores the parts completely while other parts are too far gone to bring back.  If your wheels are too far gone I would suggest painting them then putting a clear coat in either gloss or semi gloss depending on the finish you want.

Hah!! I was eyeing that saint dragon but went for the silver one (outbid last second.... sold for 52$)...

as as for the rockbuster decals I have a new sheet sitting in a box( think it has a slight crease but nothing bad).

I went for the silver one as well but missed out. Did get this one and the black lunchbox.

Message me directly if you want to sell those decals.

  4. Been away on business lately but came home to find a couple of recent eBay purchases have arrived.

Tamiya Saint Dragon.  Little too far gone to be restored to a shelf queen without a completely new tub, bumpers and arms but it's perfect to be a runner. It's all there and in good mechanical condition. The body shows some wear and a rather transparent paint job. Going to make this one a runner in an upcoming build.

Next up is a Rock Buster. Been after a nice one of these for years and this one is almost perfect except for the poor paint job. This will be a complete shelf queen level restoration as soon as I can put my hand on a decent set decals.  Anyone have a source?

And finally an Aristocraft Koala. Very nice condition and reasonably complete chassis.  Needs a rear body mount and the impossible to find body but I'm sure one will turn up.  Combining this with the partial Kangaroo cars in the basement I should be able to make a runner out of it.

  5. Cutting out modern Tamiya Lexan bodies. The detail on modern bodies are so poor that its almost impossible to see where to cut.  The Jimny and Tumbling Bull bodies are good examples.

Thankfully the re-re Bigwig has good lines and seems to be made of slightly thicker material.

  6. It's extremely unusual for one of these gear boxes to fail if built correctly.  As other have stated. Ensure the spacer is in place on the Left (when viewing from the rear) side of the gearbox.  From there I would look at the screws that hold the gearbox together. It's very easy to over tighten these and once stripped there is little you can do other than going to a longer screw an nut combo.  Beyond that I would make sure that the screws that hold the adapter plate to the motor are tight and then ensure that the motor is tight in the gearbox.  Lastly you need to check that the rear wheels are installed correctly and key into the hubs and that the Wheel nuts are on tight.

  7. Hello Tamiya Club,

I've searched but haven't found a list so far. Does anyone know if there is a currently list of models that run the ABS bodies?  Like most of us i'm drawn to Tamiya for the scale and it seems that the latest cars to hit the market with lexan shells lack detail. Cutting out the body on my Jimny was an exercise in frustration and self control as the body lacks so much detail that it was hard to figure out where to cut.

Anyway, enough of my ranting.  I've been looking through the car listings and making my own list of ABS cars but was wondering if there was something already complied somewhere.

If not i'll be more than happy to put one together.

    Hi All

I am currently modifying a Lunchbox and have brought a new shell to spray and have also completely stripped the old shell.  After 2 cpats of Tamiya fine primer I want to spray one shell metallic light blue and one metallic light green.

Can anyone recommend any metallic spray paint besides tamiya please?  If no-one can, then I will stick to metallic tamiya paint.

    Cheers!

Where are you located?  If you are in the US then i recommend that you look at duplicolor automotive pints

  9. Had a MM4600 in a baja champ for a while.  Only issue I had was the dogbones.  Mine came with the dogbones with the white plastic tips and they would snap off at the ball on a regular basis.

Never found a direct Tamiya replacement but I did stumble across TL01B knock off at a flee market and noticed it had all steel dogbones that were nice and thick so I picked it up for parts. Never hurt anything else but o was running old school NiMh packs that lacks the punch of today's LiPo packs.

Yeah dude didn't post underside pics so I hesitated....

also I normally use MCI for their decals but was pretty underwhelmed with the monster beetle set. So if you're looking for shelf queen do what I do..... hold out for originals (bear hawk body sets usually list for like 50 so worth waiting for) or if you just want original looking decals then MCI is great for that

How do I get in touch with MCI?

Man I was going to bud on that guy!!! That seller had some sweet stuff listed, but was charging a load for shipping... this was one I was sad I didn't bid but glad it went to a fellow TCer :)

Yeah shipping was  bit expensive but it's worth it.  Been looking for one of these for a while now.  Body looks really good with so i'm pretty sure it will restore just fine.  Really just need a bumper and the piece under the gearbox and the underside will be mint.

Who makes the most accurate repo decals for this thing?

  12. Glad to see the GH II  coming back and I'm sure there will be a few that makes it into the collection as I can't seem to get enough of this chassis.

Am I the only one with an affliction for this chassis?   Seems like I can't stop myself from buying every cheap one on eBay.  Maybe the fact that the GH 1 was my first real car has something to do with it
