  1. I think for parts availability, choice and being a relatively cheap solution, which would make for a good runner and still be relatively in keeping with the period, then Associated RC10 shocks have got to be hard to beat. However like Scorchio says you will have to adjust the shock mounting points. This can easily be done by bending and dremeling some sheet alloy plate. Good luck.
  2. These points aren't directed at anyone in particular and I've heard all the stories before so don't get offended its just my take on the situation. Packaging is free from any super market, you just need to ask for it and they'll give it to you. [] I just store boxes and padding from previous trades and ebay purchases and then when I sell something the box goes on another trip! That's my top tip of the day [8-|] Paying for someone's inconvenience of standing in a post office line, filling out a form or just having to take your kids along, that is something everyone has to do. It's not some special thing to justify charging people extra, its downright dishonest! As for charging someone extra and then saying you are doing them a favour by writing gift on the form or some other such nonsense, are you kidding me? [:S] I cannot believe and yet it is also all to easy to believe that on one hand ebay taketh away (ebay fees increasing) and on the other hand it giveth by saying pad your postage. Multinational corporations you can't live with em and you can't live without em. Its all pretty laughable really...
  3. Hi guys and gals, I have tried a couple of different ways to strip lexan paint from my vintage shells and am not having any joy at all. So I have decided that, what the heck its better the devil you know right? [6] So my shells have some old paint on them which is clean and securely attached. However in a couple of parts where the shell has cracked or has been cut after being painted there is paint missing or worn off by rubbing. I am UK based and was wondering if anyone could direct me to a supplier who could colour match me a spray can so I can touch up the existing paint? Has anyone tried this? Is it successful? Am I going about this the correct way to refurbish my shells? If this has been covered by existing threads I'd appreciate a link as I couldn't find one. Any help and or advice would be greatly appreciated. [] Cheers
  4. Just as the title suggests. I think ebay should clamp down on postage padding. Postage padding is where someone for example starts an auction with the minimum starting price and puts postage down at a ridiculous amount so they know they will make a certain amount of money from the auction. Another thing that irks me about it is the 'sellers standard rate', I understand that some people may live a little way away from a post office but surely they should have to justify their ridiculous high postage to someone? I do find it funny though when a 'sellers standard rate' for one part in one listing is say $12 then for the another of the same part in another listing its $14. i personally believe the postage should be set by the post office rather than the seller! This has probably been covered a million times before but I felt like having a rant as there are some nice parts out there that I am not going to buy on the principal that a part as big as a finger nail which would be held securely by a standard envelope is not worth $15 odd for postage. Ahhh, gripe over. Normal service is resumed.
  5. Dear Singapore_959, I hope you get well again soon. Least of all because of the enjoyment given to many of us from your vintage racing threads. All the best. Cheers Ed
  6. Fantastic build thread Corpse Thrower. Its awesome to read and follow a build of a car that I don't know anything about. It looks like a serious bit of racing machinery. The rear suspension is interesting too and is slightly reminiscent to me at least of the Losi JRX2 5 link suspension, with this Tamiya version modified to 3 links. Anyway I look forward to the conclusion to this thread. Oh great pics too btw. Cheers
  7. Awesome video, I'd love to see some truck racing just like they had in the 80's. It was all about the stats on those things with 1000's of horsepower and big drifts in the corners.
  8. Truth......[Moses] let my people go! [] [/Moses]
  9. Great work Dee the weathering really makes the car look so much more realistic, fantastic work. Thanks for teaching us all how its done with your steady step by step write ups and your amazing pictures. I am going to stop my gushing praise there, only to leave others with something to say. Cheers Ed
  10. Good luck mate, I hope everything goes smoothly. I have moved from Japan a number of times (not a typo) and have each time been impressed by the meticulous packing and careful nature of the Japanese removal men. However I wish there Western counterparts and the shippers in transit were so careful. Best wishes for it all as it is a very stressful time. [] Cheers Ed
  11. Meticulous trimming and smoothing of the part with an exceedingly sharp knife where the sprue attached. [8-|] Inevitably I end up trimming myself in the same manner with the ridiculously sharp knife [:S] I wrecked too many parts parts when younger by twisting and accidentally peeling off a strip or chunk of the part [] to ever do that again. No matter how old the model I have bought the parts all need trimming, I have yet to buy one which has been trimmed remotely well. I find this funny because in some cases the racers have drilled holes in every conceivable thing but have not lightened the plastic parts by trimming them properly???
  12. I have found on my heavy vintage cars that the weight of the car can be seen to visually compress and bulge the tires as mentioned previously. This is what causes cracks and flatspots, so I use car stands (like the others) made of wrecked RC tires. I'd reccomend getting a Chinese takeaway as previously suggested and having a nice evening in eating knowing you are going to safe guard your vintage RC's. []
  13. Wow that's one amazing Christmas. I'm down with the build up request too. Any build thread will do. Lol.
  14. I was thinking only the other day that there weren't enough videos (of any quality)! I guess we must all be different how strange []
  15. I always heard that your as young as the woman you feel or something like that anyway.....[]
  16. Congratulations you seem to have got a great deal and its making you happy already.
  17. Hi guys, I have been wanting to ask this for a while but how do you go about repairing a lexan shell with shoe goo? When I was younger and used to skateboard we used to use it to fix our shoes when after a whole bunch of kickflips the toes would be worn out. Then we'd just pour this gloopy stuff all over it and glue it back together. How does it work for shells? Surely there must be some more finesse than the shoe repair or the shell'd end up just a big heavy mess? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers
  18. I was wondering why you would want to do this? I am not trying to put you off but I don't understand the reasoning. You mention a CRP style SRB bumper (originally kydex) and plastic SRB shock towers (originally nylon). These two items were introduced in the period for racing to be slightly lighter and less fragile than the stock items. As far as I am aware not to many people if any have SRB races anymore and if they do they are more for fun and not competitiveness. I own a lot of hop-ups for these cars and although nice pieces of engineering none of them got over the inherent design problem of the SRB. This was that it was a scale RC model and had scale suspension and terrible handling etc etc. The car is fun don't get me wrong but not the best design for racing. I think most people (I can't and am not trying to speak for everyone just generalising) now want a car which looks like the original but is a bit more durable hence the excellent twinset chassis and bumpers. The chassis adds stiffness so you don't break the body (the original SRB chassis flexes and cracks bodies) and the bumper protects the body and negates the need to run a fragile original. Or people want parts which add scale realism or parts to make the SRB more like the box art e.g. various TC members have produced exhausts, front and rear rollcages/bumpers, etc... I don't know if this has helped but it may be a better idea to see what parts people break on runners and improve them with your own designs or come up with some cosmetic accessories. I think many people would be after a diff. from what I have read. Cheers
  19. I was wondering about this a lot having been stung in the past year, what is the tax for? If I buy parts which were only available in the 80's from a manufacturer who was based in the States but who is now bust, purchased now second hand from a private individual, then what's the tax for? I would understand if the parts were still made or I wasn't supporting UK industry but this isn't the case as I am generally buying second hand parts which weren't made in the UK (or any suitable substitutes). Any ideas?
  20. Well said! [:|]
  21. **** the secret is out []
  22. Glad you guys (shodog and badboy) appreciated the compliments, I just thought there should be a way of sharing the information contained in this site and giving something back to members who've put effort into there showrooms or modelling or whatever. The list I posted is by no means everything which I thought was great this year and was meant for other people to add to as well. For example I should have mentioned DeeMiller's showroom for his excellent modifications. I guess though this is covered by the signatures idea. Is there anywhere that explains the ideas behind the S.I.G.S. though (apart from on the S.I.G.S. page)? I am just confused as there are tons of signatures and many cars could go in lots of signatures. Can you have one car under many signatures?
  23. Super nice runner you've made there mate. Well done. The colours work really nicely. Cheers [H]
  24. Hi Dee, Cheers for telling me about the signatures. Problem solved. Ed
  25. I was wondering if anyone else thinks it'd be a good idea to have some sort of TC showroom awards? I thought I knew all the showrooms that I was interested in but I was wrong. Today I found out about Grahoo's showroom, with all the modifications and info. I was stunned. I am using Grahoo as an example, and he isn't a new member but I only found out about his showroom because joelvardy asked about custom RC cars on the forum and someone mentioned him. So I thought perhaps we could compile a list or who's who on TC, of other members showroom reccomendations (no voting for yourself). The reason I say this is some people put a lot of effort into there showrooms, whether it be in the standard of their cars, modifications, how-tos, photos, etc. This year I have drawn inspiration from (this is just a short non-comprehensive list); Moosey's showroom for its excellent boxart models, hints and tips on paint and modelling Shodog's showroom for the excellent models and vintage hop-ups and presentation Volksrod and Badboys showrooms for there baja style SRB's and the pictures Grahoo's showroom for the excellent custom cars Erikswe's, Mrlexan, WooberGoober's showroom for the vintage hop-ups and modifications Retro R/C's showroom for the excellent NIB's Inetrc's showroom for the excellent AYK's So what categories could there be? Anyone think this is a good idea?
