  1. EDITED I NEED LESS DIMENSIONS NOW:

    Hi guys,

I haven't been on in a while and was wondering if anyone could help me with the SRB chassis dimensions. So far I only have a front end and the majority of a rear end (just missing a tranny case) but no chassis. I do however have a 3mm thick sheet of alloy and a drill. So, could someone please measure the length of their chassis and also the width at the front please? Also if you can tell me the distance the front servo saver mount is from the front of the chassis as a bonus that would be great

Please let me know if you can help.

    Cheers

    Ed

  2. Hi,

Since the new forum I haven't been on much and now don't know how to post pictures.

    I have read this thread;

    http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10273

    and asked for help in this thread;

    http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37095

    I have read this

"You just right click on the image in your showroom and select properties then copy the filename at the end... in the above example its "img1_12272003111939_2_350.jpg"

then the path to the image to paste in the forum is

    http://www.tamiyaclub.com/tc_userimages/YO...lenameYouCopied

if its the fullise image you want just miss out the "/generate" bit

    http://www.tamiyaclub.com/tc_userimages/YO...YouCopied"

and even tried it out but I can't find my membership number written anywhere and what I thought it was doesn't work.

I think all I need to know is my own membership number so where do I find it?

I'd be very grateful for a reply please.

    Thanks in advance....

    Ed

  3. Yep, both posts are right,

iv just won a manta ray on ebay for 33, loads of spares and in very good condittion, but iv seen worse go for around 100 before now !!

OK so forgetting emotional attatchment, im wondering about average prices at the moment !

lets just say for a runner in reasonable condittion.

im just trying to find a happy medium, and get peoples feedback of what they pay for what model on average !

No emotions, just fair prices for any particular model ! ( personal emotions will always raise the price)

    keep it coming guys, :(

Hahahaha, how broad is this topic. :) Good luck!

  4. Thanks mate, I see the problem is you can't post things from other peoples showrooms. This seems strange to me as the pics are already in the public domain and you could do this on the old forum.

It'll make it very difficult to talk about rare models when there is only one example on the site though (like in this case). How strange!

I am confused where do I find my membership number?

  5. Thanks for the reply. Those articles are great and they do mention a Kyosho rear, which is very interesting. These were expensive. I know someone on here must have raced one (darryn mentions it).

They mention the Kyosho rear? That might have been my deliberate mistake to check you'd read them, or more likely I could have just forgotten as I haven't read them in a at least a year and am getting old :)

Can you post this article you keep mentioning please? :-)

  6. In several of the old rc reviews posted here, they mention a Taipan (in the Australian magazines). It seems to have been a hybrid SRB front and Kyosho Scorpion rear, but I want to know more. Darryn mentions racing one in an old post. Please inform . . . ? They seemed to be high-end and a real do-it-yourself kit. Who sold instructions on how to make them? Were they fast/hard to build/successful? I can't imagine buying two kits and then aftermarket parts, but it seems like an outstanding car for the time.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Great question! I believe, but I could be wrong (please correct me), that the Taipan was a car put out by an importer in your country called Pitstop. Pitstop was the importer for a number of vintage hop-up manufacturers from this period, Thorp, RCH, MIP, CRP (I think), etc....

The main offroad racer at this time was the Tamiya SRB, many racers would buy the stock Tamiya kit and then over time would ditch all the stock parts for hop-ups in an attempt to make the car perform better. This generally left only the Tamiya SRB transmission case from the original kit (which was generally cut down until it was unrecognisable anyway).

Pitstop decided to bring out a race version of the SRB which showcased a lot of the hop-ups they imported (see link to Jim123's showroom). This car they called the Taipan and it was distinguished from other SRB's with the amount of hop-ups it had and also the tranny cases were highly polished and engraved with the moniker Taipan.

My friend jim123 had one in his showroom

    http://tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?c...86&id=15112

his was bought from TC member Rood and has since been sold back to a guy in Oz (I think from TC but can't remember).

In the reference section there are some great links about vintage racing (in Oz) and some leaflets/ads from Pitstop.

    http://tamiyaclub.com/article.asp?id=82

Hope that helps, though it doesn't answer your Kyosho/SRB hybrid question, I imagine this was just a hybrid set-up that racers at the time found worked best. :)

P.S. Why doesn't the picture posting thing work? :( I added the star to make it show up.

  7. Dr.Robotnik,

Good eye! The fronts are the You-G kit and differ in design only a little from the Parma set. The rear set are the Parma shocks, so you are 2 for 2

I've only once ever seen the You-G front shock kit which I use on my Grasshopper (nice to know another TC member has a set - score!). I still see the Team CRP and Parma ones on rare occasion via Ebay.

    Dan

    Thanks Dan,

I am really into my hop-ups.

Keep an eye on my trades and ebay (id: edprest) if you are interested in this sort of thing as more stuff will be going up in the next few days/weeks.

    Cheers

  8. i definatly need new shocks on the rear because i just took the car out onto the street wiv a full battery and the car flys its that fast the front end struggles to stay on the ground i remember a friend giving me the motor years back out of a buggy he had but i ent got a clue what it is but its fast very fast i wont be driving it on the street again i dont fancy breaking it.....

oh yeah robotnik i checked ebay but u had already sold that crp mount theres gotta be a way of fitting modern shocks wiv another sort of mount..

    Hi,

Sorry about that, I am selling a lot of vintage stuff at reasonable prices and things are tending to sell quite quickly. When I made the post they were still available. I may be able to sell you the Hot Trick version in a week or so, if you are still looking then give me a shout.

    Cheers

    Ed

  9. Some front oil filled shock kits were made many years ago for the GrassHopper (By Team CRP and Parma). They appear on Ebay on rare occasion and usually sell for $50.00 or more to the Tamiya collectors that want them (me being one of them). Mounting the rear Hornet Shock Kit also requires that you cut into the rear of the GrassHopper body so that the new shock tower extensions can fit properly around the body :( The easy way around this is to purchase the Parma GrassHopper Lexan replacement body (still on sale from www.parmapse.com). Their lexan body uses the Hornet body mounts and allows you to mount the Hornet rear shock kit without any concern about cutting into an ABS plastic body.

If you like having the original GrassHopper body with the driver, then Parma did make some rear replacement oil filled shocks (also many years ago) that were very slim and fit onto the stock mounts with no modifications. These can also be found on rare occasion through Ebay and usually sell for a lower cost than the front shock kits.

Here is a photo with both vintage front an rear shock kits from my showroom GrassHopper (I need to update my photos B) )

I believe those front shocks are made by You G (mine are at least and look the same) and not Parma (unless Parma copied them which is possible). The rears I believe are Parma.

  10. I know several members who buy cheap broken cars on Ebay, do them up, then sell them for a profit (normally very small profit - sometimes a loss!). I see nothing wrong with this at all - in fact I see it as a fun way to experience a whole range of vehicles without blowing a fortune.

Think about it, you have the option of buying those broken cars cheap and doing them up yourself. The time taken to repair a vehicle can often be quite long (hunting for parts etc). Most of those that I deal with who do this simply trade in this way to make enough money to continue their collecting.

If you have enough money to not have to do this, fair enough. Don't criticise those who may not have the funds to do it your way.

    Solid stuff :-)

  11. please check my other insults out at Netbiker.co.uk and Bikersweb.co.uk Eloquant insults available by request or just because you deserve it.

    Quote and laugh.............. B)

I don't care and don't understand what the problem with make me an offer is...there can be many reasons for using it. Surely just put whatever you want e.g. make me an offer, o.n.o., o.v.n.o., etc? Imagine its ebay and you have to put in your offer/max. bid, well that's the same here surely?

  12. Its worth having a look at their shop ,there are loads of new items and very reasonably priced too B)

CRP are long out of business, the new stock is just new old stock. Its like if I set up a shop called Hot Trick and sold all my old NOS Hot Trick parts.

The CRP shocks were only made back in the day with red collars. Red doesn't go with a lot of colour schemes, so the CRP shop are re-dying them black to make them sell better.

  13. Yes more questions I can help with B)

Here is the part you have, assembled on my car.

    http://tamiyaclub.com/pictureframe.asp?t=n...006095809_1.jpg

More pictures can be seen on

    http://tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?c...25&id=13728

You can see in the pictures, I am using You-G shocks (blue). These are a vintage hop-up which replace the original springs with a coil over oil damper. The spring tension adjustment is done with a threaded collar just like modern shocks. These may be quite rare but if you search ebay for a couple of months I am sure you will spot some.

Failing that, I believe the C-brackets people mention are used to mount Tamiya shocks like on the Lunchbox previously mentioned. The Hornet uses them to and you can see them at the base of my shocks where they attach to the front arm (the metal part with the bolt going through it). If you mounted another pair at the top too you could fit some normal style eyelet shocks if you can find a small enough pair. Maybe early front small RC10 ones might fit but I think not.

Or you could just wait until this lot of shocks arrives at my house from the states.

    b06e_1.JPG

In the top left corner is the CRP version (another vintage hop-up) of the part you have (its the silver bracket in the top left with small coil overs attached). It is slightly taller and allows the fitting of normal coil over shocks. You can see it is fitted with the CRP coil over already. This will be going up for sale when it arrives so make me an offer if you are interested.

    Cheers

    Ed

  14. Yup. That is a Hot Trick shock tower for the GrassHopper / Hornet. I have one myself NIB and it is one of the only Hot Trick parts that came in both Red and Gold instead of just Red.

    Hope this helps.

    Dan

I believe Hot Trick made all their parts in red, gold and black as I have these colours on parts.

  15. Thanks S.B.Junkie

Jim replied very quickly to my email and put my torment to an end  There was never one produced ! oh well I can begin the final build of my super falcon now in the knowledge there are no more mods ! Thanks to Jim Sourbeck for going to the trouble of digging out the info for me too . I am sure Jason has a reason for not aways replying as his service is always very good in terms of goods etc and postage from HK is very quick. Then again so is Jims :D

Yes I should add that JR-RC is an excellent shop, great products and fast shipping, I have never had any problems with their service. It was only an issue with not being able to contact a person there.
