  1. Hi mymonsterbeetleisbroken, all I can say is Good Luck.....I'm just waaaaaayyyyy behind. Just waiting for a few bits to arive for my FIRST R/C jobbie!!![:$]. I reckon that fabricating stuff for yourself with your own ideas is where the real learning curve starts. Screwing stuff together from a kit and a load of hop up is great and look fantastic but its not the same. regards groundhogdirtplugger "what's that they said - a monster clod buster totally new to the world - and still they stood and still the wonder grew"
  2. Hi excuse me for hitching another question on this thread.[Y] Thanks to 'rhenbelz' for opening this one !![Y][Y][Y] Noting the words of the 'Mad Ax'.... "1) The stock TXT is slow, ungainly, and hard to control. ESC and hi-torque servos are a MUST - driving with standard servos is near-impossible as it just has a mind of its own." Would the tendency for the TXT to torque-sway its way around the place be cure by the torsion sway bar by New Era? I notice that can be fitted on the front and/or back. Oh and er.......The hop ups rather cheekily pasted by "Inetrc" are truly awesome. They are not really hop ups but more akin to leap up as far as Alpha Centuri. "Mobias"..words are so wise...."Be warned though the TXT does have a nifty knack of eating a whole in your wallet right from the word go." regards 'groundhogdirtplugger' "he gave up cocaine - but was gripped by a monster that was bigger than all" that was bigger than all"
  3. Cheers for those kind words..."mymonsterbeetleisbroken" I've been out of circulation for a few days. You are right that the TXT-1 has almost infinite number of adaption and hop up possibilities. That is probably why soooo much is written about it on these pages[][][]. The danger can be that you end up tying yourself up in knots over the ifs, buts, and maybe's. So I'm gonna keep my blatherin' short for the nest few weeks as I wait for my bits to arrive to finally get started on this project. Then maybe I can share my REAL experiences with the world out there. In the meantime good luck with your hop ups. The New Era stuff looks excellent. I am especially interested in the anti-torsion device....but that will have to wait for another day.. regards groundhogdirtplugger "then a much needed silence decended - just a faint whirring and a buzzin"[^o)]
  4. Many thanks Guys, Really interesting answer from Wrc action, and a lot to that I had not noticed from mymonsterbeetleisbroken. I forgot that not only is the force transfered but is amplified by the moment of force - a kind of leverage action - I think?[:S] I had not noticed that the bolts go right through the axle plus a few other bits mymonsterbeetleisbroken pointed out. I reckon that I probably will use alu hops on the front and rear - eventually. The trouble is that you are looking at about £40 +. So this will be an add on after the stock item has been broken. Experience is the best school - but the fees are high!!! One bit of good news for you people that are TAMIYA experts. I that I will lay off writing any more dittys in this club - until I have at least started our (me and my boy's) TXT-1. He's getting restless and he is well within his rights - I reckon? Thanks for all the hints and tips from the regular Tamiya Club people - I will test your patience no longer! Regards groundhogdirtplugger "and he rode into the sunset soon to return with a monster"
  5. Hi All, There something thats been ticking around in my mind about the TXT-1 ever since I saw the thread by Mobias entitled, "TXT-1 Achilles Heel". This thread concerns the high likelyhood of breaking the standard plastic brackets that attatch to the axle and house the servos. The way round this problem is that many fit a metal version of this part. However, if you do this and have another prang surely all the force will be transferred to the attachments on the axle housing - and if those fail its a lot more of a pain to fix. Obviously you can see that I am writing from absolutely no experience here! It just seems its easier to replace a part that cost a few quid than letting the force of the impact travel 'deeper' into the truck an cause more damage. Has anyone had experience using the 'hopped up' alu parts. What happens in the event of a crash? After all its a lot of dosh to fork out for four alu equivalents - however good they look.[H] If I'm talking twaddle here I can take it on the chin!!! best regards groundhogdirtplugger "one day I'll get started - then there will be no holdin' me back!"
  6. Tax is always depressing! Does anyone know what the tax and duty rates are for stuff from the US. Does it make it less likely to be taxed if you use a fast track parcel service, so there is less time to drop into the Customs abyss in Coventry.[6] To all the tax people[6] who log into this site.....some tax people must also like TAMYIA.....its nothing personal...we still love ya![] groundhogdirtplugger "three things in life are certain, death, taxes and luck! 7. Hi Is it possible to do this at the Transmitter end if you wanted to?? Put specifically, mix two channels together but have the reversing effect switchable at the transmitter. That way the four wheel steering could work 'normally' in one mode - that is front wheels turn right, and rear wheels turn left, say, to cause the vehicle to turn to the right. Then at the flick of a switch you could make the four wheel steering work 'abnormally'. That is front wheels turn right, and rear wheels ALSO turn right. The vehicle will then 'crab' Is this possible to set up at the transmitter end. Groundhogdirtplugger. PS I will give you a laugh. The last time I used a Radio Control transmitter, it was an old 'McGregor' unit. There was one button, (apart from on/off), you pressed once to go right, then quickly pressed to go left. That's it. No surprise then that I crashed all that I made......two in total!!
  8. Cheers Terry, Er um looks like I might have to push the boat out a bit further, not as far as £125 though!! Its amazing that chargers, good ones that is, are more expensive than Radios. Now I may be taking the iss and I know that most of us will have been ordered to dissconnect our chargers and park our backside on the sofa to peel the sprouts, wrap the presents, and generally appear useful.......but...... I seem to remember that there has been a recent review of chargers in a Radio Control Mag. I can't even remember the name. If anyone can it would be a help so i can get a backcopy. If anyone can scan the review and e-mail it to me.....I can give out my e-mail address. Regards to all.... groundhogdirtplugger "it started with a drip and now its a gush!"
  9. Cheers Techie, strikes me i should have gone to the hints and tipe section as well. Oh well more hase less speed. Seasonal greetings. Bye groundhogdirtplugger "the whirr of a diff is a wonderful thing!"
  10. Hi All, Seasonal greetings and a wheelspinnin' mudpluggin' ampsuckin' voltbustin' New Year to ya all. Sorry to keep pluggin this site for info. You people have provided a host so far. Thanks! I need a charger/discharger that can preferably charge a variety of batteries. The most important is of course a NiMH 7.2Volt up to 4200mAH. It would be nice if it could also charge a LiPo if I ever go that way in the future. There are mixed reports about LiPo on this website. I have had a bit of a scan around previous entries but can't quite find it all. My budhet would be a max of say £40. It would need to have a 240volt input and ideally have a cigarette lighter input althought that would not be essential. It seems if you get a good charger/discaharger your batteries will last longer. Is it best that the charger has the 'discharger' functionality. Hope you people can help. Thanks in advance groundhogdirtplugger "its grippin' and once it grips there is no turin' back !"
  11. Hi Dee (again), last time i wroteon this thread I was saying how nice it would be to get some Land-Rover stuff - early Land-Rover the better. seems I'm not alone being a Landie lover in this thread.......but....this is not what I'm writing the new entry to this thread. I have a completely new idea! What I would like to see is the ability to operate an RC car over the internet. Just imagine a Tamiya Club member in say Arizona USA being able to operate, in real time an RC truck in Aberystwyth,Wales,UK. I hope you don't think I'm a few balls short of an over, (mad)!! But its an idea that I've been thinking about for a while. Just think you could get a camera based TXT-1 to whizz around your gaff whilst you were on the other side of the world. Maybe I should start this as a new thread or maybe I should just shut up? groundhogdirtplugger just started and still lovin' it !!!
  12. Hi This is a non-techie question regarding use of password and login. I bought a TXT-1 which will be an engineering project with my son over the Christmas hols - and beyond. There is a host of info on this site about the TXT-1. Is it OK that I let my son log in as groundhogdirtplugger and use my password. Groundhogdirtplugger is really our team name!!! My son is eleven and does not have an e-mail address. If this is OK it will mean that the style will change when he is writing stuff as opposed to me. Regards groundhogdirtplugger countin' the days to Crimbo !!!!!![][][]
  13. Hi Dee, Feel hardly qualified to reply to this one as I have yet to build anything!!!!! Me and my son will be doin' a Christmas and New Yaer build on the TXT-1. However.....I reckon that 'focus1'' 's suggestions about a Land-Rover Defender certainly get my vote. A series 1 landrover defender short wheel base pick up would be nice. We need something from Land-Rover. How about a Land-Rover with a working fire-hydrant!!! I think I'm starting to rant.... Regards Groundhogdirtplugger.....
  14. Hi VonBlade, Much Appreciated..another bit of the big jigsaw comes together....guess I'll get a BZ to replace the silver cans on the TXT-1. Although I will run the 'silvers' first to see what they are like. Seen a couple of vids on this site with TXT-1 running on silver cans and they don't look as bad as some make out. You have gotta be careful that the TXT does not become a money pit!!!! There are some out there that look as if they have been put together by NASA! Awesome beasts but would break the bank!!! Best Regards groundhogdirtplugger
  15. Hi All, Slowly building up my knowledge in this big world!!! Can any one tell me what "stand up brush" and "stand down brush" mean in the context of TZ / RZ electric motors? Can anyone also tell me if a 540 RZ/TZ/BZ have the same number of turns no matter where you buy them? I guess that RZ is differennt from TZ which is different from BZ but is an RZ the same the world over.? I hope this lot makes sense. Regards to all...Groundhogdirtplugger... Slowly getting there....now where's first gear!!!!
