  1. I think I posted this project here before. Would just like to update it. Here is what the chassis looked like when I got it a few months back. It was missing a front shock, wheels, tires, body and wing. This is where I am now... I bought a body set from eBay and have started cutting. Stopped at the gear case area as it looks like a tough job! Any tips on how to cut out that area right?
  2. mix: do you go to the races? Thank you very much Stuart! I'll try to get more pictures of her. I know we all love pics! Was talking to the previous owner yesterday and he found the missing alum ball end, and one drive cup. That's one step to getting her back to perfect shape! Hope the other parts turn up!
  3. jkyamog: both. once in a while some stuff come up in the local forums and ad sites. I also keep asking around old time racers if they still have thier old stuff rotting away somewhere. And sometimes I get lucky like this! Here's the story of the Avante: I was buying from this guy a set of Optima Mid Wheels he was selling for P250 ($5) at a local forum. I will be using it for my Optima Mid project so I asked him why he had those wheels, thinking that he may have more parts of the Mid stashed somewhere still. He said that he doesn't have an Optima and he just bought them wheels 20 years ago at a LHS as spares for his old Avante. Immediatley asked if he still had the Avante and lo and behold... Guy said he had more stuff at home, among those he mentioned ... RC10 Gold Tub, Bigwig and a Bruiser! Hope he finds that one!
  4. Thank you very much guys! Origineelreclamebord, yes I could have gone on ebay, but with the prices nowadays, i could not bring myself to buy one there. Wanted to look for one locally as really the prices of vintage stuff here have not yet soared. I also got an Optima Mid chassis the other day for $20. PsychoAtom, yes, life is indeed great! mix237, jkyamog are you in the Phil or overseas?
  5. Just found and got this this morning. The Avante is quite rare here in Manila, Philippines. I have been searching for years! Lucky me, I found one and in this condition! The owner built it years ago and kept it in storage under his bed! Sad it wasn't stored properly. There are cracks to the plastic parts in the hubs. Rear dogs, a front camber link, all four drive cups and a wheel cap are missing. No driver figure but came with a technigold motor. Over-all I'd say as good a condition as can be! How much I got it for?!?! $65 at today's exchange rate. Time to hunt for parts! Wish me luck!
  6. How do I get C.A. off of an FRP chassis. Will it be okay to soak FRP in acetone to get the CA off? (I hope I got that right, the chassis of the F103 is called FRP?) I'm restoring one, its fairly fresh, but the owner seemed to have had too much fun putting C.A. on th sides of the FRP and it just dripped all over making a mess! Hahaha! Thank you!
  7. Hello from the Philippines! Check out this site! http://www.tamiyarcschool.com.ph/home/home.htm
  8. I have a Tamiya Avante Ball Race Steering Set #53033 NIP. Best Offer plus actual shipping. Fedex might be best from here. Paypal. Thanks.
  9. Thanks kontemax. Yes, it is the off set thats the problem at the front. The previous owner had to place two bearings to space the wheels on the axle to get the right fit. What wheels wuld have the same offset as the original? will King Blackfoot wheels be okay? Thanks also Incredible_Serious. I should have written trouble to find a set here in the Philippines. I'll send private message about them wheels. Thanks again!
  10. Hi. I was able to get a King Cab this weekend, it is in good condition but the body is quite torn up and the wheels are of the Dyna Blaster. I was just wondering what size these wheels are? What modern tires will fit on them? Also, what other wheel alternatives do I have for the truck? I might have a little trouble getting original wheels here in my part of the world Thank you very much!
  11. Anyone know who could have manufactured the graphite chassis and shock towers for the Astute before? I noticed that the chassis and towers on mine are not FRP but woven graphite. Just curious who culd have made them. Thanks.
  12. Broke the D rear arm blocks on my Works Astute. So, off I went to our local machine shop, bought a couple of solid aluminum blocks shaped close to them D parts, brought out the hack saw, dremel, hand file and started shaping the aluminum. This is what I ended up with. If this breaks, I don't know what to come up with next! Oh, a friend of mine also gave me an Astute chassis from his attic. Sorry state but good for parts! The best surprise was a pair of rear universal axles on it! Already installed them on my works Astute! Yeah!
  13. Thanks Chris! I've always felt that these cars need to be driven and not shelved. And I thoght you were related to Jaime! Thanks again! Build your works Astute! Cheers!
  14. Thanks EU4RIA! I find that it jumps okay. It seems that mine dives even with the batt this way and I have set the wing back to bring the nose up. The batt is at its most forward setting. Coincidentally I just got a Dyna Storm, and used the rear wheels during my run today. Seemed that I understeered with this, must be the tire condition as it was a bit used or it was the track condition today. Here is a picture after my run today, with the Dyna tires and rims!
