  1. I took a chance and bought a set of shocks off Ebay for use on my original Ultima...They are intended for the Kyosho Mini-Inferno but the measurements given in the auction made me think they would work on my Ultima. So...Here they are: The lengths seem to be just right for this car. I can't judge the spring rates yet but the bodies are threaded so that's a big plus. I happy to have paid $25 for the set of 4. They were from the seller named Goodsgood. I just wanted to post this as a heads up in case other people were wondering about modern shock options for these old cars.
  2. The white one looks to be a Futaba FX-10 or a Tamiya Striker. FX-10:
  3. If a Super Stock 34 is a 27 turn, what is a Super Stock 20? I have a Super Stock 20 but I have no idea what the specs are. thanks, James
  4. Thanks guys but I've put it on Ebay now... a link to the auction is in the Ebay section above.
  5. Thanks, Contact joaquimassis on Ebay and let him know what sizes you need. I think he could put a set together for a lot less than you'd buy a branded set if you could find one. The set on my car was from Duratrax and I bought it several years ago for about $40.00...
  6. I thought that in order to leave a message you had to be a member, and to be a member you had to write a little essay about why you should be allowed in...I tried twice before I was allowed on board and only got to be a member after writing about a 750 word disertation on my love for RC...
  7. Here's my Ultima I'm restoring. So far it has Andy's wide front A-arms, Hot Trick front axles to fit Tamiya Wheels, Desert Gator wheels, and Pro-line Dirt Hawg tires. It's hard to tell by this picture but the chassis has been powder-coated black. It's kinda funny how large modern wheels and tires can look on vintage cars:
  8. I used to pride myself on my reading comprehension but I'm not doing too great recently. Thanks guys.
  9. Thanks for that info...I'd forgotten how I'd phrased the question (even though it was right at the top of the page...) Can the Optima final pinion set-up be put in the Ultima gearbox without modification? Do you feel like the stock drive shafts might be another limiting factor? They look kinda weak to me.
  10. I think one of us is mixed up. The final pinions in my original Ultima, my Ultima II, and the set of gears I bought off Ebay are all plastic (this is the gear on the top shaft of the gearbox, on the inside). This gear is fixed to the shaft by a pin that goes through the shaft and sits in a recess in the gear. The only gear on the car with a grub screw (or "set screw") is the pinion on the motor itself.
  11. Thanks for the advice guys. I just got a new set of gears off Ebay so I have a fresh start from that respect. Are there any fancy modern synthetic gear lubes that you'd recommend?
  12. Has anyone put a brushless system in an original Ultima or Optima? I am considering putting one in my Ultima but I don't know how strong the gearbox is supposed to be. Any experience? thanks, James
  13. Humorously, it actually came with a Tamiya Holiday Buggy stuck on top...Holes were cut in it for the shocks to stick through. It was listed somethig like: "Tamyia Radio Controled RC Dune Buggy", so not only was it not a Tamiya car, but they didn't spell Tamiya right... Auction picture: I'm going to fix the holes in the Holiday Buggy body and sell it on seperately for sure, just in case someone needs one. I used to pine after RC-10s back in the 80s when I first got into RC but couldn't afford one so a large part of me wants to just keep this one around on the shelf.
