Well I'm not liking the box condition in this batch so think I'm going to pass for a month. Give customs chance to process my banzai egress and judge how that box looks on arrival.
My Banzai order was perfect and my Fusion order was rather crushed
Needless to say, Banzai box is the stored one with the untouched kit and the Fusion one is on display and the car built

I've got a Clodbuster, Unimog and Nova Fox in my basket right now...hovering over that confirm order button

-
I got £30 customs fees on my Egress from Banzai, not too shabby.
-
Does anyone have a banzai discount code they can spare?. Thanks guys
Such things exist? If so please spill

-
Stella replied with email about the Egress that it will be will be in stock early next week for a price of $386 excluding shipping.[/size]

Yeah I just got the same message...why am I considering a 3rd? What's wrong with me?

Ps just a tip... Do not place the reccomended 3mm and 5 mm preload on the shock springs or the car will sit far too high and have absolutely no droop. Leave the plastic shock collars as high as possible. I notice this car has more than enough rear suspension travel but not much front travel. Should go quite well though from the feel of it.
I forgot to mention.. I fitted the buggy with the centre one way bearing just because all my previous buggys ( except yokomo bx) have solid 4wd. To say this thing turns on a sixpence is not an understatement!, crazy amounts of steering, plus with the wheels hexes being 12mm i can fit some 1/10 racing foams and drive it on carpet at the local club. I cannot wait to see my mates face when i lap his xray xb4 with a nearly 25 year old buggy!. These tamiya buggys are just so smooth it is amazing. Even the rere hornet i built was super smooth, i think it is the lovely buttery plastic the gears are made from. I painted on a thin layer of ceramic grease with a paintbrush and it is buttery smooth!. Totally happy
Build 10/10
Looks 10/10
Packaging 10/10
Price 8/10 but you get what you pay for
I can't wait till you guys all get your hands on a built car, you're in for a treat
Psp can anyone help a brother out with a dyna-tech please?!
Glad you enjoyed it Mark!
Agreed all round, it's a stellar build.
If you look at Tamiyas vision for the Egress, going right back to the original, you'll see she was always a high rider. I kinda love that look personally, even though it massively impedes performance

Are you saying that avante 2k1 does not come with window masks!?.
Defo no masks.
-
The Avante shell shouldn't be to difficult to mask with tape. All you need to do is lay down a long piece of masking tape on cutting board or even a large plate of glass (table, window, mirror, etc...). Now take a straight edge cut a fine strip off the edge (probably 2mm thick) with a razor. Now peel up your long pin-stripe of tape and lay it onto the shell. The thinner the stripe, the easier it will conform to the curves as you lay it down. After you've completely outlined the boarder of your canopy, go ahead and start cutting strips of tape and fill in the center. Check for missed spots (hold to the light). Now you're ready to paint.
Great idea on the thin strips, that sounds sounds like a plan! I'm going to go for that. Really looking forward to getting these shells now. Probably not arriving until new year is my guess as I want with EMS Air for the first 2 and EMS Land for the second 2. No rush though, still got about a bazillion other projects to finish lol.

Am I right in saying this is a limited release? I've bought 4 on that principal as I don't want to be paying stupid money for one 6 months from now.
-
The main thing is too take your time & that's about it .
That's something I do as standard...I used to do a lot of scale modelling, so I have prep/painting patience in droves

-
Mate, what i did to my vinatge windows is to apply double Triple layers of the masking tape, then let it set for 10 mins and then use a sharp nife around the lines. Before using the nife, i do take some marker and lightly go through the lines needed to be cut.
if this is the first time to do it, you might find difficulties, but with time you will do it like jet

I've got a new repro one here, I'll test out on that I think, see how I do.
-
Use a brand new exacto or scalpel blade when cutting the shell, and any excess masking tape.
drawing a fine pen line on the outside of the shell helps to align the masking tape on the inside, or when cutting the liquid mask if thats your choice of masking media
Hmmm, liquid mask, never heard of that, sounds interesting! I can foresee errors with using masking tape based on how many small curves there would be...interesting. Thanks!

And i am 90% sure, there will be no Re Re Avante 2001 since this body set will completely change to Avante 2001, so why to re re another Avante 2001 kit
!!
Ask yourself this.
Q. Would you buy the 2001 if it was re-re'd?
A. The answer is yes.
Q. Would you rationalise the purchase based on the existence of the bodyshell re-re and the Egress re-re?
A. The answer is no.
Q. Would fools like us buy more than one?
A. The answer is yes.
Q. Is it an easy kit for them to re-re?
A. BIG TIME yes.
Q. Is it easy money for them?
A. Yes.
Q. Will happen?
A. Probably not lol

But I wish it would!

Anyone got any window masking techniques they want to share for these? I've yet to attempt painting an Avante shell as its always looked super hard to mask.
-
Guys i need a quick an answer from an egress builder.. I don't have a decent motor to put in the eggy. If i start the build how easy is it to fit the motor later or change the motor once car is built?.
To all the guys sat on the fence this is the best kit yet and is worth more than £399, you wil not be disappointed . Plus the box inserts are green, red and blue so very festive and perfect for a Xmas build!!.
Plus with the rerelease of the avante 2001 you get 2 cars for the price of one!. I jumped on and bought 2001 shell and white wheels after seeing this amazing car on ebay, whoever got this got a crazy bargain, that was dirt cheap for all that...
image.jpgYeah man, fitting the motor is super easy, two screws onto the motor plate, and then two screws onto the gearbox. Nice and easy. Congrats on the 2001 too, they're ace cars!
-
And then neither of them turn up on time.

But the credit card burns just as brightly

Oh and follow up on the tamiya plug worries that a few folks aired earlier. 20 mins of heavy non stop throttle bashing and there was no warmth in the connector whatsoever. In fact, only the esc had any degree of warmth on it and that was only a tiiiiiiny bit warm, nothing that you couldn't rest your finger on.
So all in all, this set up is working like a dream for me

-
Woooooooooah just had 20 mins outside with a set of 2.2 wheels/road tires on - brilliant! I respectfully leathered the pants of it!
With this speed passion esc you can adjust the drag braking (new feature to old school me), so I turned that up a bit and man, on slippy tarmac that makes for some great fun with the torque splitter as it was drift central
I made my own little imaginary course and blasted round it for a bit. Hands down, the single best 4WD buggy I've ever experienced. This car is fantastic!
-
I wonder if this is the longest (in page count) running topic for a yet 'fully released' Tamiya car? At 66 pages it must be up near the top!

Siedel have them showing in stock now at Euros 349.99 - even with poor sterling exchange rate and shipping charges, that is £50-60 less than modelsport, with no risk of import duties.
I get the impression that Modelsport do well enough to not feel the need to run discounts. I've bought a few cars from them in the past, including my RC10, but on the whole I tend to buy mainly parts, tyres etc from them. Nice and friendly bunch though, always willing to help.
-
Cheers for all the tyre suggestions chaps! Just wish there was something to fit the standard wheels. Feels wrong sticking any other wheels on this beauty.
-
mheald, I just watched your video. What is going on with your throttle finger? You need to really smooth out your power delivery. Be smooth on the trigger/stick when accelerating and your car will thank you. Constant repetitive applications of large amounts of torque will quickly ruin your drivetrain (especially ball diffs). You wouldn't drive your 1:1 car like that would you?
With electric motors you have massive amounts of torque available at all times, especially at slow or zero speed. With internal combustion engines this is quite the contrary, and torque ramps up as the engine accelerates (to a point) and then bleeds off again. You definitely do NOT want to be punching the throttle on an electric system over and over again.
Sorry dad! I'll be sure to give it an extra blast of full throttle just for you

Does anyone know of any road/tarmac tyres that are hard wearing and will fit the Egress wheels? I know that two full battery runs will decimate these hybrid spikes.
-
YEY my Fusion order just arrived and came packed with a Tamiya catalogue! Result! Only downer is (and no fault of Fusions as it was very well packed) the box had been dented, bummer. On the plus side, my mint box from Banzai will house this kit and my dented box will be for my built one.

Congrats man, nice haul!
I was going for a 3rd but then dropped out and spent the money on a CR-01 Unimog and a Super Clodbuster from Banzai
Man, this forum thread alone must have brought Mr.Tamiya a nice little wad of cash before Christmas this year
I think we've successfully gobbled up all the Egress's on planet earth, mwa ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (evil laugh)
