  1. thank you, its a shame about the aesthetics though! I'm sure i will get round to it,
  2. Finally got it sorted, running x2 Integy 70t motors with the 10t pinion from lunchbox/pumpkin both rear diffs locked (although it was arguably better with just the rear most diff locked) custom skid plate/stinger, extended rear bed and old paint tin 'tanker' back, mechanically its good now although I might have to perform the 3rd shock mod where the rear axles pivot together. Its good, not really a rockcrawler though as it doesn't have enough articulation and its not 6x6 (although if i find a set of *cheap clodbuster axles ill have ago!) next things on the list....... new battery compartment in rear, possibly to take 2 or 3 packs, paint job, and a high torque servo for the steering, Volia... Luke *Cheap Clodbuster axles - I know, pigs might fly to.......
  3. doh' wish i had seen that first! although i don't really think it would be suitable for me as my esc and receiver are epoxied in position oh well you live and learn, i think what it would have really benefited from would have been slimmer spring'd shocks Luke
  4. Well then I've been bashing my hornet around for the good part of a year, after the first few months I decided a big motor was req'd, i installed a 19t sportwerks motor with a 15t 'tazer' esc, which made it quick (for a hornet), the only major problem was that it mullered those crappy springs on the chassis. After reading on here and after some advice I decided I needed to do the 3 shock conversion (common on the pumpkin) I bought a set of crappy kyosho shocks of eBay for the price of 1.99 and today I fitted one, I did try mounting it to a bar that ran through the top shock mounting points, but it broke through after a test run so I had to make the metal bracket you see in the picture, so far test run has been positive and it doesnt make that annoying click when you set off, it allows articulation of either wheel as before, but it does limit the downward travel of the rear shock absorbers because the 3rd spring rubs on the motor, I wouldn't have though this a problem unless it was regularly jumped.(if i was to do it again id be on the lookout for some hornet front springs as they are physically a lot thinner. I have as of yet still to figure out how to stop it 'hopping' when on the grass, and I still need a solution to why the battery pack lid falls off, but apart from that alls well Luke
  5. im sure i read on the main forum that its the drag rods angle that induces the 'bump' steer, i think the solution is to fit risers to the steering knuckles Luke
  6. Im in the process of converting my 'Colt Nitro' Into electric and I couldn't hope for a better time to cut my teeth in the unknown world of brushless motors, I'm planning to fab up a bracket to take the battery and another for the motor hopefully I'll be able to turn up some sort of adapter to mount the existing pinion I have to a 'electric type' pinion shaft. The pinion that I'm going to run will be 16tooth. Because it was a nitro, I'm guessing the gearing will be quite high to make the most of the rev range, with that in mind do what advice can I be given? will I need a torquey motor? if I do I'll probably go brushed maybe 55t as theres more on the market for brushed rock crawlers (and at a cheaper price!) or willl I get away with a brushless? Id rather go brushless and get some experience as it seems that everything is going that way, heres some pics of the project... Thanks Luke
  7. Hornet was my first electric 'kit' love it to pieces, i think its a great starter kit, and if you want the tyres to last longer try running the grass hopper tyres they fit on the hornets 3 piece rims no problem, Luke
  8. maybe the mounting collar is bent/loose? have you tried tightening it up? is it fast enough for you? you could swap to a hornet pinion, and do away with the collar mounted adapter, this should tighten up your motor mounting and hopefully stop the pinion jumping and breaking gears, Luke
  9. thank you, I appreciate it, Ive got a set winging its way to me as we speak from the bay cheers Luke
  10. cheers, I don't suppose you can remember what letter the sprue was? ta Luke
  11. Ive got x2 hornet gearbox/axles that I'm running on my current project. My problem is that its to highly geared, I'm running 70t motors but they easily stall, I was thinking that if I could drop down from the (13t?) pinion from the hornet to the 10t pinion for the lunch box I would be well away. I realize to change from the hornet to the 'old' lunchbox you need the collar adapter, (one axle was originally a '80s' pumpkin so I have one). Do the re-release lunchbox's use the same collar? or do they mount differently? The reason I think they mount differently is that I've got a screw bag from the re-release lunchbox and it seemed to use x2 long screws to hold the motor in place rather than the screw to collar method cheers Luke
  12. lol a james bond style submergable? ive had experiences with the ford before.............. not on a tamiya scale though! any idea on the date of the meet after next? cheers luke
  13. hello all im a newbie here, i live in rotherham, so i guess im just up the road from the clumber meet, how many cars do you lot take? so far i only have a hornet, (and a colt nitro buggy, but that doesnt count does it?). where abouts do you all meet up? iv been having a look through the video section and iv got to say im a little disappointed, because as of yet i havent seen any tamiya's braving the ford.............................. haha are there any controller frequency rules about the meet? any way i might not make it to this meet (work) but hopefully ill make the next one......[Y] cheers luke
