  1. If anyone has a friend looking for one of these badboys I'm selling my fully hopped up and mambized (MM5700) setup for a very fair price.. about 600 invested, starting bid is at 299.99 (mamba's are going for 200+ now alone) It is in great shape and with a 3s lipo it DOES hit 70MPH just do a search for dark impact on ebay and I'm sure you will find it. (even mamba 5700 should get a hit)
  2. Buy mine... LOL This buggy is GPS'ed at just over 70MPH with it's mamba 5700 and 3s lipo - The lipo doesn't come with the 4wd buggy but everything else does included TONS of extras!! MUST SEE!! I have about 600 invested in this booger so someone will make out really really good! Works perfect and infact hasn't had a ton of run time, mamba was brand new and still is mint, never been overheated and in perfect order. Check it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Tamiya-Dark-Impact-4wd...1QQcmdZViewItem Any questions please ask via ebay THANKS!!
  3. The only necessary upgrades are 1-CVDs all around (front & rear) 2-Good rubber sealed bearing kit 3-Extra front diff case to rebiuld the rear diff using the front diff case NOTE: www.thetoyz.com has good prices on most of this stuff, also an ebay store Nice extras 1-Aluminum front steering blocks (rear also) 2-Slipper clutch 3-Center one-way OK the one time fix for the rear diff for those complaining or with issues - Buy a steel front diff housing and build it just like you normally would except use the rear diff gear in it. I also suggest a cabide ball set if you are using brushless. This is an easy fix that will last even with brushless 70+mph. I run a mamba 5700 with 3s (11.1v) 4000mah maxamps.com lipo's and it's sick how fast she goes.. the thing sounds like a jet engine as she flies by PS I don't use that retarded heatsink that they offer.. the motor space is SUPER tight but that thing would be worthless. If you have to have cooling make it active cooling and spend your money wisely and get a small cooling fan and mount it there. Same money spent and it will actually do something. I must say I run the traxxas anaconda buggy tires on it as well and they are great onroad.. the proline buggy dirthawgs for off-roading and they rock too.. at least with my brushless the stock tires last about 10 minutes. Enjoy!! Quick dirty video my little girl taped of the 3s in action.. very unpolished
  4. I've run both nitro's and electric and I have a job kids and lots of responsiblites.. for myself I need a quick in and quick out which totally rules out nitro's. There is nothing quick about a day of running nitros.. and if you skimp you pay for it later, in time and $$$. A few years ago before lipo's and brushless setups this really wasn't even worth debating but in 2007 for me there just is no debat.. electrics are faster, just as durable with a few hop ups and man the screach from my dark impact going by at over 70 (gps'ed) is crazy.. it's like a turbine engine.. if that isn't a cool sound for you I have a simple solution.. record a nitro, put a little mini player in your tx and when you pull the trigger it will make the old nitro noise and you can still have the faster electric version If you run the nice big lipo's (not referencing size or weight as these packs are all smaller and weigh less than a 9cell nimh pack) ranging from 3s 5000mah in the traditional "6cell stock location" some cars have or the nice big 3s 8000mah that can last from 45-60minuts... or the 12000mah 2cell lipo that will get you over 1hour you have no run time issues. If you get two of these cells you can charge while you run the other and have very little lay over time, much like the nitro's but faster and cleaner My rustler is doing well over 70 now with my 3s 8000mah pack when I want.. speed runs get lame after a while though and the nice thing is.. the brushleess w/ lipo's have more torque than nitro's do also so it's win win other than the noise and the mess you have to leave behind... LOL Brushless are a 1/10 or smaller for the most part, but I have starting hearing about a move into the 1/8's now too but really at least for 2007 the 1/8ths and larger are the only reason to be running nitro's at least IMO. Think about the cost savings too... over a year If you buy 3 decent size lipo's ranging from 5000-12000mah you will spend 300-600 that will get you (if you take care of your lipo's) over 900 cycles up to 1500 cycles. Going on the low side figure 900 cycles x 60min = 900 or more hours of fun from those 3 packs that cost you less than $600.00. 900 hours x what you pay for your nitro gas in 1hr (varies on motor) = ?? Don't figure it out as it will make you ill What is that like a 1.50 per hour to run with the lipo's (add a bit for electric to charge). Ok i'm done Heading out to run the DI
  5. I have 3racing cvd's too all around, I did break one off at the end of the threads.. a lil too much torque I have a spare set now. I picked up my blue sealed bearings, my cvd's and my extra front diff housing (that I used on the rear) at thetoyz.com.. nice prices IMO super fast ship. So far that cvd my front bumper and my rear wing are the only things I have really damaged on my DI. This thing truly handles speed well. It is a blast to drive, albit scary at nearly 70 but good fun! PS the outdrives are actually steel in the current kits BUT those spacers that go between the outdrives and the gear itself on the rear all melt together with a high speed setup. So you basically run the front diff housing in the back as explained pretty well above, only making sure when you build it to use the rear diff gear. ENJOY!!
  6. www.b-p-p.com has free shipping and the absolute lowest mamba max prices you will find anywhere. They are AWESOME to top that! I would highly recommend going w/ the 5700, with a 3cell lipo it is by far the fastest mamba max there is (can't run 3cells on the 6900 or 7700) If you run offroad you will appreciate how cool the 5700 runs vs the higher kv rated motors as well. Typically after you have finsihed your speed runs the 7700 just over heats and you have to gear it down soo much that it is no faster than the 5700. The 5700 runs soo much cooler you can gear it up pretty good and still have the speed, but again with the 3cell lipo the 5700 goes faster than any mamba motor Enjoy!
  7. Still running strong!!! I had to add the rear bumper as a wheelie bar though to keep me from FLIPPING! I did get the GPM aluminum bearing carriers all around too.. they just looked soo pretty Anyone else gone brushless yet??
  8. That is funny really... I have a mamba max 5700 and push mine to 67mph (gps'ed) and don't seem to break much. The first 5minutes I ran brushless I did melt the rear diff (junk) so I replaced it with a front diff (using the rear diff gear) and now it's flawless. I did smack a curb at 50 and broke one of my cvd stubs. I will say a few things I upgraded out of the box were 3racing cvd's all around, the diff, and I used rubber sealed bearings instead of the junk that came w/ the DI. I slapped on some bumpers front and rear, the rear is used more as a wheelie bar to keep me from flipping mamba has too much power at time I run w/ a maxamps 3cell 4000mah lipo (have a few packs) IT IS ONE FAST SOB! I use the traxxas anacondas on the road and have some dirt hawg buggie tires for the rest. Hope you have some better luck
  9. Wow guys anyone doing crazy things w/ their dark impact? I just upgraded my bearing carriers to aluminum all the way around.. seems a bit nicer, but still havn't put together a polished video yet. We went away for a week and just getting back into things kids starting school etc.. so maybe my next day off next week if weather is decent I will go for a few more speed runs and see if I can get some good footage.
  10. Sorry that clip didn't have my wheelie into a back slide into a flip twist and turn back on all fours maybe next clip
  11. Well this is some pretty poor video, the little one was a bit shaky at first... but you can see the crazy insaine speed as well as a small wipe out part way though. I will get some better clips next week when I'm on vacation and spend a few minutes editing to make it decent. I now have 3 of the maxamps lipo's so it can be a all day thing now It was a bit damp out still rained for a bit today but not really bad. ENJOY!! PS the diff mod is way simple order a front diff, assemple just like the front diff, just use the rear diff gear and install in the rear. Nothing tricky about it.. it's a perfect fit and you're golden!!
  12. Next couple of days.. I'll update w/ 3cell clips
  13. WELL it CAN BE DONE, HIGH power and HIGH speed!!! the DI has great control and it is super FASSSST!! let me tell ya Started with a stock kit, same day I ordered it I ordered a Mamba Max 5700 and Deans connectors. After reading in this forum about the df03 before my stuff shipped I decided to order up CVDs all the way around just to be safe. I decided at this point too I wanted some nice street tires, so I picked up some Traxxas Anacondas 2.2 Buggy tires front and rears with an extra set of stock rims (great combo). I already had my Spektrum dx2.0 so in went a receiver and I already had 2cell lipo's from maxamps that fit perfect (6000mah) so I decided to use those. Let me tell ya for your average person that was WAY more than wat was needed Here is a clip on 2cells For me though, the 3cell was just too tempting so I ordered a 4000mah 3cell from maxamps and a slipper clutch to help keep my transmission alive and well my first run I hit about 66MPH with my 3cell but my rear diff just gave out very soon after MELTED!! PICS Now I needed a fix for this problem as I wasn't about to drop my speed Did some more digging and come to find out if you order a front diff case and build it like a front diff except you use the rear diff gear in place of the front diff gear and you have yourself one nice diff that WILL NOT melt up on you That rear diff is a joke if you as me (the stock one). Anyhoo.. got her built up and did some more playing and decided it was time for another speed run and WHOAH!!! 67.6. Keep in mind I'm now running the stock pinion but the 82t spur that comes with the slipper clutch so I am now geared down hitting nearly 68MPH I have a set of Buggy Dirt Hawgs that are a bit bigger than the stock and anaconda tires that I may use for some speed passes just to break the 70mph mark PS this was GPS'ed, not a guess!! Love this thing and would recommend to anyone. A mamba or velineon brushless setup with CVD's is a must in my book though, but I have a real need for speed Here are some pics
  14. Ya it is the heavy duty diff from thetoyz.com, I don't think it is necessarily more heavy duty than the stock steel front diff, but it ships in 1 day from these guys.. they rock! Anyway all you need is all the parts from the rear diff minus the diff case and those extra plastic parts. You assemble it as the front (looking at the directions) just use the rear diff gear instead of the front diff gear. It slides in perfect! and it is WAY WAY better Can hold up to the mamba's power on 3cells
  15. Hello all... well I'm GPS'ed at 65.2MPH and that is geared down, I'm not sure if I am going to gear up a bit or not, but when I start using my dirthawg tires they are a bit bigger so I will be over 70MPH!! This thing BOOOGIES!!
