  1. Hey guys, soory to jump back a topic or two, but one of you mentioned that motors should be 'run in'?

I'm not expert and this is the first time I've heard of having to do this.

I'm dead interested to find out how to do this.

If one of you could reply with a rough outline.

    Cheers

  2. Electric is for those of us who are trying to recapture our youth, due to its simplistic plugin-and-play capabilities. We also get the same 'oh know' feeling as the battery begins to die. LOL!!!!

Nitro is for those of us who are trying to recapture our youth, but are a bit embarressed to be seen with toy cars, so we use the excuse that this is an adults hobby as it deals with engines!!!! LOL!!!! ;)

I like both as they have fastly different characteristcs, that fit a wide range of needs!!! And the more people than can afford/build/play with such fantastic bits of kit, the better!!!

  3. Tamiya Sand Scorcher 'look-a-like' 4X4!!!

This is my Sand Scorcher look-a-like. It's basically a 1-peice lexan beetle shell on a modern tamiya 4 wheel drive shaft driven chassis. (A TL-01 i think??)

The shell has the usual bumps and scrapes from being run but has no major splits or cracks. It has a brand new ariel tube too.

It has a nice set of copper anodised alloys as well as a full set of copper anodised oil-filled shocks. It goes and handles really well.

It's fitted with a brand new Super Stock TZ can with the following specs:

Super Stock Motor TZ is designed to realize heightened balance at both higher RPM and torque performance. Brush holders provide large surface for transferring electricity to commutator. Slits on motor allow heat dissipation. Brush dampers heighten contact with commutator and color anodized brush heatsinks (red, black) are equipped on end bell. This motor is re-buildable for maintenance.

    Super Stock Motor TZ

A high performance motor for electric radio control car use.

A high torque motor designed for endurance race or low speed track.

    Can be disassembled for maintenance.

Blue anodized end bell with brush dampers.

Features terminal heat sink and detachable chip capacitor.

    23 turn motor

    Usable voltage: 7.2V

    R.P.M. at best efficiency: 26,500rpm (7.2V)

Torque at best efficiency: 500g-cm (7.2V)

    JRM certified motor.

It's already fitted with a steering servo so just add a battery, esc and a radio set and your racing!!!

Low starting price so grab yourself this new vintage!!!!! :)

  4. Hello Group

I take the chance to submit the group this picture, hoping someone might know more.

At very fisrt glance, I was sure they were custom 1/20 tamiya models. It take a second, a third, a fourth... to discover the obvious.

Those are 1/10 cars. Theoretically you might want to use them over over a track (altough just for a very slow lap...)

Some one know who make them? a web site? any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

    Giorgio (aka Lotus88)

Gorgio, they're all tamiya cars. Check out the listings on this website.

Here's the link, just click on the desciption of the car you want to see.

The Tyrell 6 wheeler has since been re-released I believe. B)

  5. I have dealt with Myles on many occasions and he has always sorted out the odd hic-cough in a friendly and helpful manner. I'm sure that he will look after you!

Could someone supply a contact number? I have sent numerous e-mails and have had no reply. It's been over 4 weeks now. I don't mind waiting if I know that they are definately still being processed. But I feel that my order is now lost. Any help on how to contact 'Myles' would be gratefull.

  6. If you've paid and heard nothing then you need to send a PM to NetSmithUK (Chris)... as the site owner he has a responsibility here, and hopefully some influence. At the very least if he can't sort it out he needs to take the store pages down.

What e-mail address are you using for the store owner? I'd like to drop them a note to check out my order.

Let us know what Chris says too.

    Thanks.

The address for Masons is: myleshall@slope.wanadoo.co.uk

I PM'd Netsmith and have had no response. ??

I'll give it a few more weeks and then start the ball rolling with Paypal.

    I feel like I'm flogging a dead horse. :)

  7. Anybody know how we get in touch with the supplier of the 'vintage spares' store on this site, Masons Vintage Tamiya?

I put in an order some days ago and have heard nothing... would like to confirm stock, shipping costs and pay for the stuff.

    Any assistance apprecaited.

You may be in for a long wait. I ordered some wheels and slick tyres for my Porsche 959 over a month ago. No tires and no response to e-mails.

I hope someone has some news that may suit us both.

I paid for mine via paypal and feel as though I've been had.

I'm patient but this is beyond a joke.

Rant over. Can anyone else hlep us???

  8. I was just wondering why nobody wants to ship to Italy or South Africa on Ebay.It seems to me that these two countries have it a little rough.

Is it a real problem? I dont live there but i have two customers, one in South Africa and one in Italy. There havent been any hang ups, other than the fact that South Africa is so far away from Japan and Italy seems to have a slow customs.

I've noticed that also, but as a UK ebayer I have shipped stuff to both of those locations with no issue at all. I know that I see alot of ebay auctions that almost 'shout' that they will not suffer Nigerian scammers. It's sad that people get painted with the brush of a few bad-un's. Unfortunately it seems to be true in some cases that good guys do finish last it would seem. :)

  9. Ok guys got another SS / SRB just wondering what the best way to polish all those alloy parts is to get them looking like chrome :)

    any info usefull

    cheers

    Pete

You can use Autosol on them, but it'll take your hours and will probably make your fingers bleed. Or you can have them 'bead blasted', this is a gentler version of sand blasting and will leave a polished finish. I've yet to find somewhere to do my bead blasting so do suffer with sore fingers. (If you find somewhere, let me know)

I'm not that experienced in this game, but this should get you started. I'm sure others will answer the thread with some more solutions.

Check out the bumper on my yellow Sand Scorcher. That was done with autosol.

    Good Luck!!! :D

  10. Hi guys, I have not posted in a long time, my apologies,

Just a heads up that the US Post Office re-named their International Shipping services.

Previously, they had Airmail for packages ranging in size. And Airmail letter for the smaller items obviously.

Today, I shipped out an RC car to a TC member in the UK and I found out that now the US Post office calls the service -

    First Class International- smaller parcels

    or-

    Priority Mail International- larger parcels

I think the time on shipments does not change :) , just the names they gave the services. Hope this helps anyone who cares, thanks, scollins

Hi Scollins, thanks for the info. I buy from the States quite regulary and alsways ask for different postal services. It'll help stop any mix-ups. :D

  11. I was wondering why you would want to do this? I am not trying to put you off but I don't understand the reasoning.

You mention a CRP style SRB bumper (originally kydex) and plastic SRB shock towers (originally nylon). These two items were introduced in the period for racing to be slightly lighter and less fragile than the stock items. As far as I am aware not to many people if any have SRB races anymore and if they do they are more for fun and not competitiveness.

I own a lot of hop-ups for these cars and although nice pieces of engineering none of them got over the inherent design problem of the SRB. This was that it was a scale RC model and had scale suspension and terrible handling etc etc. The car is fun don't get me wrong but not the best design for racing.

I think most people (I can't and am not trying to speak for everyone just generalising) now want a car which looks like the original but is a bit more durable hence the excellent twinset chassis and bumpers. The chassis adds stiffness so you don't break the body (the original SRB chassis flexes and cracks bodies) and the bumper protects the body and negates the need to run a fragile original.

Or people want parts which add scale realism or parts to make the SRB more like the box art e.g. various TC members have produced exhausts, front and rear rollcages/bumpers, etc...

I don't know if this has helped but it may be a better idea to see what parts people break on runners and improve them with your own designs or come up with some cosmetic accessories. I think many people would be after a diff. from what I have read.

    Cheers

I kinda agree with Robotnik on this one. Personally I'd like to see more 'custom' parts being made. When dealing with collectables I feel that its more about 'having something different to everyone else'. The showrooms demonstrate that very clearly when you see how many versions there are of each model. The TC members (that we all know and love) who make various alloy SRB parts will never be short of demand, so I'd say follow in their path. If you have the ability/resources to create new parts then this is the direction that I think would be in hot demand.

Just my opinion of course. Hope it helps. :)

  12. Who is interested in aluminum parts for the Porsche 959 (58059) and the Celica Gr.B (58064)? I plan to produce the R-Parts (rear uprights and rear lower suspension shafts) as well as the C-Parts. Who is interested in such parts?

    kind regards

I'd certainly be interested. I have a shelf queen and two 959 runners, and I'd have parts for all three. Let me know when you have them and what the price is. I would like to see pictures first though. Thanks!!! :)

  13. I think I'll have to order one of these, even if it's only for the reason that it has great scale looks. I'm hoping it'll handle like a beast too. I'm thinking; brushless set up, but will depend on the strength of the running gear. I like the fact that its built from prper parts too. My initial thought was that it's like a modern SRB. Gonna put my order in tomorrow. :D

  14. i learned not to plug the throttle plug into the wrong channel on the receiver and then proceed to test it on the kitchen table by pressing the steering stick, the result being a burst of speed followed by all the kit parts being on the floor followed closely by the model itself. ;o)

Dude, i did that recently when rebuiling my scorcher. NIGHTMARE!!! Was on my hands and knee's praying that I could find all the parts to put it back together. Managed it, but scared the life out of me LOL!!!!!!
