  1. Mmmmm 1 Day to go to open my Tomahawk up from under the tree. Heee Can't wait.
  2. It's such a basic platform and you seem to have the vital bits. Nice job so far.
  3. I ask the same question to myself. I like tinkering and modding a car to get its full potential out but NOT beyond the chassis abilities. A lot of aftermarket parts are just bling and have no performance gain what so ever. So if it doesn't break I'll leave it. If it is limiting performance in it's function I will investigate it . That's when experience comes in to know if it will help or not and forums like this. Otherwise I enjoying building a new car and brining it to life from a box of parts is nothing more rewarding to me. When on holidays which is not often I try to have a new project lined up. Mmmm Tomahawk is sitting under the tree.
  4. I have played and raced a re re Boomerang quite a bit. The stock suspension is very good. I tried everything with the shocks and in the end returned to the stock set up with manta ray rear springs on the rear with stock dampers. Centre drive shaft is good especially with anything more then a silver can. Added the Radshape alloy Hot Shot front sway bar stays with a Hot Shot front sway bar to tighten the front mono shock up and stop off power front end dipping which causes the back end to break away. Universals help the front end with steering. Apart from bearings that's it. Oh a better rear wing does wonders too.
  5. Very well done. Thank you.
  6. Dave you might have missed the cheap boats of these. I picked mine up from RC Mart at $220 US. They only had 4 left a month ago. Just checked and are out of stock now. Mine still came to almost $400 AU once posted and conversion fee as Wifey cracked it. ( X Mas present) Just found this is the best price and will be slightly cheaper then mine 281849678405
  7. Minor or NOT Max the differences are very noticeable. The difference is very noticeable . Even you can tell in spare parts list in the Tamiya guide between the brushes of the power over the Gold. Yes very small changes but very big in terms of performance which is why the Technigold is was a great performing motor and now a Legendary motor.
  8. Technigold had different brushes too. They were vented or slotted to allow air to cool the brush compound. The Technigold was the most efficient brushed motor ever produced too as well as having stump pulling torque . I raced these motors for 2 years and even had one re wound to a 19T and Zapped. Awesome motor !!!
  9. That's because it's a water down version of the 240 range. ST was a budget version in the Le Mans series. Not rebuild able, No bearings and one piece can. Still a quick motor though.
  10. I would post pic's but the link doesn't work from photo bucket. I think Andy said to change my browser but my pass word is stored on this and can't retrieve it . Hence while I was absent for quite some time. LOL
  11. All nice motors too me. Love the Le Mans series the most though. The first alloy endbell Kyosho was the 480 Gold ( 25x4 wind) Next was the 240SB and then the 360 Gold. Trinity had a alloy end bell on their first kyosho tear down motor the hand wound 240S with a dark orange label. I have them all in my collection
  12. To fully understand the Hype you need to put one through it's paces. I didn't understand the hype either but with a different paint scheme and black out the baby blue parts these cars look great I think. They do drive better then any of the Shot's based cars too. Super stable too. My runner has a few up grades with a 13t brushless combo and goes really hard. The biggest problem was the cost of the BigWig. Yes it came with the awesome Technigold motor but not fully ball raced as mentioned. I would love a re re but don't think that's going to happen for some reason
  13. Yep Original Thunder Shot I say. MSC is the biggest give away .
  14. Well my lovely wife bought me a Tomahawk for me. Can't open the postage box to X mass morning either So are you getting a present under the tree r/c related?
  15. Herd from a good source that the Kyosho Ultima is going to get Re realise in March next year. Think about it and makes sense since it was a serious 2wd contender back then and even won the Worlds at Romsey England if memory serves me correct. Even though I have a few Ultima's in my collection from shelf queens to runners this would be a awesome realise to me.
  16. Nothing wrong that's the fox for you. The Re re Nova Fox is slightly better due to the reposition of the steering servo. Poor design is the reason. Bell cranks will solve this but Fox wasn't designed that way...
  17. Aaah Now you talking. Thanks for the pic's
  18. For me I left MSC's way back in the 80's ( at a vast expensive back then) I hate MSC,s but they do have a place in the development of motor control . To me the basic esc for brushed motors are dirt cheap . Tamiya have included them in their kits for the past few years now. Now they include a Brushless/ Brushed esc now. Their is enough of things too go wrong with a r/c car how it is having a esc is just one less thing to go wrong ( normally). Just my thoughts.
  19. Aaah My wife just bought me one for X Mass. Yep don't get it too X mass too. This will be a runner like 90% of my collection.
  20. Ok Can someone tell me what battery I can run in this. I'm not running a Tamiya Li Fe battery. I thought a shorty will fit but is way bigger then the li fe. Haven't started to build yet. Cheers
  21. I have the same problem. Can't paste my photo bucket link up . Just goes blank.
  22. Internal Mono shock with longer and stronger hub carries is what I did. Wider track, Slop free and damping of the front end. That's what I did on my TRF Frog build which is on here.
  23. I have never had any issues with my 3 re re Frogs/Brat diffs and I run some pretty fast motors in them. The most common problem is the side plates came loose on the diff case therefore the planetary gears slip . The original side plates used flanged nuts and the re re went to nylock nuts . The dog bone set up is good once sorted. No drive line chatter like the optional cvd's have.
  24. Never knew it came with CVD's. In my experience with the re re Frog the Tamiya cvd's aren't good under full droop . I got much better results with the dog bones. They do pop out at times but I solved it in my TRF Frog build on here Can't wait till I get mine.
  25. The problem that the Big Wig had (well in Oz anyway) is that it was way overpriced for what it was. Really a souped up Boomerang with 8.4V capabilities . For the same price you could buy a proper competition racer from Kyosho & Schumacher. The Big Wig is truly a very under rated chassis. You won't know this until you own one and put it through it's paces. To me it's better then any other Shot bases tranny variants. If they did re re the B/Wig it will give Tamiya Fans a chance to experience this unique buggy that others couldn't justify back in the late 80's.
