  1. MMMmm Might have to get one for Boondal and run a brushless
  2. Mmmmm I'm watching this one with great interest Erich . Great piece of history there. I don't have a original but have the pleasure of a nice modded Re re and boy it kicks but and drives like no other 4wd buggy. The trailing arm rear suspension at the rear really hangs on. Sort the front out with longer shocks and slightly bigger tower and it transforms it. I don't run the same tyres front & rear as it causes oversteer. They sorted these problems out with the Egress. Is this a runner? You will love the silky smooth power delivery with triple diffs.
  3. Did you get the servo saver you needed.???
  4. Don't understand why you would do that to a metallic edition? I love the looks of mine. I would do it to a plain shell. Unless it's badly scratched.
  5. Every now & again you come across a handy tool for r/c. This one I saw the other day while I was looking on the H/K site when placing a order and was cheap enough to give it I go I thought. Up to now I have got past all these years or many years with a pair of long nose pliers and a rubber band as my Dean connector jig BUT this blows everthing away yet so simple. It holds wires for you when you are tinning them in solder, Holdes male & female Deans connectors as well as 5.5 mm Bullets for bigger packs like 4S & 6S packs. Made out of Carbon fiber and has a strong sliding spring plates to grip them. I just did these 2 new 4200 batteries and was a breeze. Care still needs to taken but so much easier. https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=46741
  6. Running the standard connectors is fine on the stock set up. The battery you mentioned will most probably come with bullet connectors . Just check it if it has the right female plug for the Tamiya esc. The Tamiya plug will be on it's limits with lots of resistance in a 4wd buggy. Your run time & performance will be sacrificed with a 25 year old design. Tyres should be a spike type with the fronts being narrow like the original design to avoid a over-steer and will be a 2.2" Dia wheels with a hex mount drive pattern.. You will need to buy some alloy or cheap plastic hex adapters instead of the red triangle hub drive. Can be found on the bay or your LHS. This will change your roll out ratio slightly but the S/Shot has a low internal ratio tranny so this would normally be fine. Just start with the smallest pinion if on grass.. Sounds daunting but very simple to do. The most common parts to break is the front bumper assembly . C parts tree I think
  7. All the gear you mentioned is good. Get yourself a Bluebird digital servo or something similar . I would be running a brushless set up as the GT motor is rather slow being a 25T You get better run times too being brushless and it all fits in nice. Motor wires fit nicely.. Use T plugs or Deans which are the same. Hobbyking sell them cheap.. We all at Boondal use a `12 or 13t combo with a 15t pinion. ( Steel pinion is the go too) 8.4v battery not necessary with this set up. Trust me you will be amazed and the Super Shot takes it with ease. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BEEMAN-3in1-Combo-60A-ESC-13T-Sensorless-Brushless-Motor-Program-Box-RC-1-10-CAR-/161429874437?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2595f86705 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9439__BMS_621DMGplusHS_High_Speed_Digital_Servo_MG_7_2kg_10sec_46_5g.html http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11962__Nylon_T_Connectors_Female_10pcs_Bag_.html
  8. Thanks Johann I would really appreciate that. The Picture framing shop was one of the first places I went too and gave me some tips where to find some sellers but haven't had any success unless I buy a role. I went back to him and he just cut some to size. Why didn't I just get some vinyl back then. I only have black at this stage so your off cuts would be very much appreciated. Looking forward in seeing you on the 27th and running our vintage cars as well.
  9. Finally got some vinyl from framing a picture framing shop of all things yesterday which he cut to size ( A4) After getting the cutter adjusted to the right depth and using some good quality vinyl we got some really good results. A expensive little machine but will be well worth it. The StudioCut software seems to be good but can't find a Brushed Script font which I would like. Got some thing close. Will post some pic's soon.
  10. Well I bought the full metal kit when it first came out It's a very heavy laden Hot Shot once all completed BUT does look awesome and is strong. I have had some stacks but nothing broke. As for performance I wouldn't use a whizy Silver can that;s for sure. Can't use the Mono Shock set up ( you have that option in the kit) as it's way too heavy. I tried it at the front and the front hardly returns to ride height regardless of the pre adjustment used. Yes it improves handling but not any better then a well tuned Super Shot set up. Front end is very tight as in no slop. Haven't broken any gear cases at all.
  11. I use these combo's. Remember a .5 motor has more torque and not as many rpm's as the 380 can. Don't wrorry heaps of torque with these little monsters. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INIX-60A-ESC-Controller-12T-3270KV-Sensorless-Brushless-Motor-Combo-RC-Car-/161410939984?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Radio_Controlle
  12. The problem is you only have 2 pinions choices. A 12 to 13t will suit you and your son with a simple swap of pinions to the small 17 but will still be quick. My Neo fighter is using a 12t with the biggest pinion of 19t. and easily handles it at our Boondal track. Way better then the DT02 chassis. This thing has steering as well even though it's a long wheel base buggy. It doesn't wheel stand as easy on the power which is good on the track. I'm going to a 10t next in a Ez run knock off motor. It impressed the Boondal guys they have decided to buy a few themselves
  13. I went down this road with my Re re Avante. Problem is that brushless motors need a higher gearing then brushed by aprox 4 to 5 teeth. So i worked around different turns in brushles within the limited gearing choice of the Avante. After trying a 9T, 12 & 13t Ez run motors i settled on a 10T motor. Can't remember what pinion i ended up with but it gave me flexibility with gearing to motor output. Unlike brushed motors a bigger pinion will give more acceleration & top end. YES both. With brushed it's one or the other. I use these with great success and so do most of the Boondal crew as they are cheap, Fast and reliable.. This is the combo and fits nicely in the Avante.. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INIX-60A-ESC-Controller-10T-3930KV-Sensorless-Brushless-Motor-Combo-RC-Car-/151398513907?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Radio_Controlled
  14. Test drove mine at Boondal and pleased to say this is the best bang for your $$ buggy yet. Built to kit spec shocks with standard oil & a 12T EZ Run combo this thing is amazing. Ran Pro Line Bow Ties at the rear and Tamiya hard fuzzie tyres from my Titan this was dialled. So much so it needs more grunt. Some pic's from Boondal http://www.rctech.net/forum/australian-racing/548133-off-road-vintage-boondal-216.html
  15. I have noticed these motors too I thought the same being a 540 motor it will have more torque then the 380 Ez Run but will lack the revs. For the price I rather stick to the Hobby King Track Star motors which are awesome.
  16. While I was away I built my Neo Frog. The best Tamiya bang for buck I feel at $80.00 . It shares the Holiday DT02 rear end and arms but that's it. Comes with a Torque Tune, CVA oil shocks that are correctly matched for the chassis ( Front actually bottoms out) 60A brushed or brushless ESC. I built mine up with the usual Boondal spec 12T brushless combo, Bearings & Blue Bird servo.
  17. To me the most complicated kit I built is the Avante. In saying that any kit is designed to be built in a day or so. 4WD cars have more parts to them of course . Super Shot is a great time consuming build if you never put a shot buggy together. Maybe the new Mountaineer ??? Just my thoughts.
  18. Just ran mine for the first time. With a Torque Tune motor this thing rips. Suspension really works well. Feels every bit as good as my TRF Frog which is very modified. Nice Job Kyosho.
  19. Yeah good stuff indeed. It's the only SRB I want. To me it's a SRB regardless . The only question that I'm concerned is the high price tag. Really Mr Tamiya twice the price of the Kyosho Scorpion which is far superior ??? As much as the Avante if not more is going be a big pill for alot to swallow.
  20. Thanks Yogi. Pm Sent.
  21. Thanks guys & will keep up dating once I get it by the end of the week I hope. Yogi I would really appreciate that. If you coming to Boondal soon bring the off cuts or post it to me & let me know how much so i can reimburse you. Once asgain thank you.
  22. Something that I wanted to be able to do for a long time. Getting things done up & made is rather expensive. ( In this country it is anyway) Now I'm into FE Boats you need to have your racing nu on them so my needs are getting more for this. Just to be able to basic styles is all I want like Drivers name & Numbers among other things So after much research & saving I have just bought a Roland Stika machine. This is designed for the Hobbyist by Roland & made in Japan. It does up 8" wide. They go up higher to a 12 and 15 "but more $$$ of course. Also comes with CutStudio software. So many uses I feel. Can't wait.
  23. Well I finished mine off. It's in my 80's racing colour scheme. Torque tune motor and a Venon 240A brushed esc.
  24. I was thinking the same thing. Remember the re re Scorpion is quite a bit different then the original. Also it had a solid spool ( No diff till the Turbo came out later) The Frog was a evolution of the Brat. So I think the Frog was out after the Scorpion but the Frog had a Diff but the Brat didn't.... It be interesting in hearing from others who saw these cars or had them in the early 80's............
